Tristan Who?

December 5th, 2022

Ate Cameron Jordan’s lunch.

Joe has to give a standing ovation for the Buccaneers’ right tackle tonight, backup Josh Wells replacing All-Pro Tristan Wirfs.

Tom Brady dropped back to pass 54 times, and Tom Brady was sacked just once and it wasn’t because of Wells. Brady was hit just six times. And not one hit came from Cameron Jordan, who was held sackless and to just one tackle.

Wells, 31, is in his fourth Bucs season and this was his biggest game. Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht sort of predicted a big Wells night during the team’s official pregame radio show.

Licht explained that Wells is more of a natural right tackle and Licht expected him to be ready with a week to prepare as the starter. And Wells was up for it.

The Bucs’ run game has been rough all season, but they were better than usual tonight with 20 carries for 76 yards.

Joe’s not calling for Wells to replace Wirfs. No chance, but Wells more than earned this shoutout. And to make the night even sweeter, Licht strongly implied that Wirfs could be ready Sunday in San Francisco or the following week.

Perhaps he should start on the left side at some point.

  2. Tampa Bay Tailgaters Says:

    Slow clap to wellsy

  3. White Dogg Says:

It was #76 Donovan Smith that nearly cost us the game, definitely not Wells… good job 👏🏻

  4. SB Says:

Joe’s not calling for Wells to replace Wirfs.

    Thank God!

  5. Caleb Says:

Saints have one of the worst pass rushes in the league. Against the 49ers he will be exposed.

  6. tampabuscsbro Says:

Joe I still see people saying it’s the GMs fault that multiple injuries and a retirement happened on the offensive line in one season and backups aren’t as good as starters…..

    Some people.

  7. Trask To The Future Says:

IS IT AGAINST NFL RULES TO PLAY HURRY-UP THE ENTIRE GAME???

    Asking for a friend.

  8. Yucs2Bucsr Says:

Jenna Lame is so embarrassing to have as the Bucs reporter !! Maybe she will have this year

  11. CrackWise Says:

    RIGGED

    I Predicted that outcome.

Honestly, who did not see the COAST TO COAST

  12. Trey Says:

Wells should stay at RT when wirfs comes back. Wirfs should go to LT. Donovan Smith does not deserve to start in this league.

  13. Redeemer Says:

Someone explain it to me, I really don’t get it. WTF is wrong with running hurry up, and spreading people out? Everything is so congested until desperation time.

  14. Mr Bean Says:

Payton Manning ran no huddle offenses often. Chip Kelly with the Eagles did too. And starting in about 2012 the Patriots ran almost no huddle in many situations.

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Wells certainly played better than expected,,,,,better than D Smith……and all was quiet with Leverette, Hainsey & Mason…..so that’s good work from them.

  16. Uncle Urk Says:

That LT. O! That LT. Most penalized linemen since he came into the league. He should be sitting next to the old LG. The win makes it go away… but Man…

  17. Buc king Says:

I’m say it again these coaches don’t know how to manage a roster…

Move Neal to MLB- he’s the hardest hitting buccaneer by far..
Move white to Shaq Barrett spot n cut him lose after the qb blitze him 95% of the time…
Keep winfeild jr in the slot while Ryan is on the field.
Make smb n Dean compete to start..Dean was cooked tonight…
Next year say goodbye to d Smith…Move wirf to left n wells to right tackle..

  18. theghost Says:

Donovan Smith leads the league in penalties

  19. unbelievable Says:

    Wells played well.

Are we gonna to talk about D Smith yet?

I 100% agree with these points:

Move Neal to MLB- he’s the hardest hitting buccaneer by far..
Move white to Shaq Barrett spot n cut him lose after the qb blitze him 95% of the time…
Keep winfeild jr in the slot while Ryan is on the field.

  21. SOEbuc Says:

Good ole #76 brings huge last minute penalties on a weekly basis. Erase Godwin in the back of the end zone. Got very lucky with the W.

  22. Frank Pillow Says:

HWY 76 nearly cost us dearly. Buc fans, remember when we drafted the guy with Erb’s Palsy over Cam Jordan?

  23. NEfan Says:

The fans Gabbert, Gabbert until the last 5 mins. Turncoat! LFG!!!

Everyone praising Bowles for punting but how about the first 4th down on the Saints 40 when they netted 20yds? Wuss

  24. Mikejp Says:

Really? Tom had to rush to throw the ball within 2 secs most of the plays.

  25. gotbbucs Says:

Maybe it’s time to see how Wirfs does at left tackle. Don Smith looks absolutely terrible over there. I don’t know if it’s the elbow injury or what, but he is catching every pass rush and could get called for holding on literally every pass play.

  26. Bucsfan13 Says:

The coaching staff had an excellent plan in place to protect Wells. I’m sure Bowles and Leftwich told Brady not to hold the ball long. Wells has no chance against Bosa. It will be a damn bloodbath.

  27. Conte Piscatelli Says:

So, no Wells is not a stand out. The Bucs chipped on his side almost every pass play which means they weren’t able to chip on Donny’s side and Donny got beat or held a bunch. Donny needs a healthy dominant Wirfs so the backs can help him.

  28. Rob Hamada Says:

The Bucs need to draft a Left Tackle this year to compete with Smith. If Jensen comes back next year, I’d move either him or Hainsey to LG and move Goedeke to RG to compete with Mason. RG is more of an easy transition from RT for Goedeke.

  29. kyle Says:

haha jenna lame^^^yucs2bucsr she is a real pain in the a@@

  30. SOEbuc Says:

    Rob Hanada

I don’t think anyone will be competing for smith and his top tier contract. Jason realize how bad he f’d up. Twice. He’s gone.

  31. D-Rok Says:

I said before the game I feared our O-Line would be terrible against the Saints, and was the key to the game.

When Joe typed up that Leverett thought having Wells in there would be “no dropoff” I said HOGWASH. I was wrong. Still not saying Wells is good cuz he hasn’t proved it enough yet, but the O-line did just enough of a good job. I thought Brady would get sacked 4+ times.

The O-line played well enough to win. I’ll take that, and apparently I was wrong about Wells even if he had help.

  32. Daniel Says:

Wells wasn’t good at all he just wasn’t the complete disaster Donovan Smith was last night.

  33. D-Rok Says:

Speaking of Wells, watching a little of the post-game…and Brady ran up to 72 and jumped on him. Wells didn’t hug him, and if I can read lips correctly, it looked like Wells said “Get the F off me!” Maybe I’m wrong, but that’s what it looked like. Brady then ran over and jumped on Mason, who hugged him back.

    Not sure why I think that’s significant…
