Peter King: “I’m Pretty Sure If He Plays Again It Won’t Be In Tampa”

December 30th, 2022

NFL super insider Peter King

Tom Brady chatter is heating up everywhere. And the consensus seems to be Brady wants no part of playing for Todd Bowles and the Bucs.

Where and if The Goat plays next season will be a hot topic for weeks and it should help Brady sell lots of his Brady brand underwear, though Joe has yet to buy a pair.

All kind of big names will weigh in with their speculative two cents, and that occasionally will be 30 cents and a firm declaration.

Sage of Tampa Bay Sports Ira Kaufman, the venerable JoeBucsFan.com columnist, firmly believes the Bucs don’t have an answer from Brady and Brady doesn’t have answers yet for himself with two regular season games remaining. This week, Kaufman gave Brady a 25 percent shot at returning to the Bucs.

Iconic NBC Sports NFL insider Peter King seems more firm about Brady’s pending departure from Tampa.

Speaking on Pro Football Talk today, King said of Brady, “I’m pretty sure if he plays again it won’t be in Tampa.”

Joe just hopes Team Glazer, the only ownership group free to openly court Brady and offer him the moon to stay, takes advantage of its leg-up in the Brady sweepstakes.

That assumes there’s much of a market for Brady’s services at 46 years old. That market could dry up fast if he doesn’t finish the season well or healthy.

  1. CleanHouse Says:

Brady has had a tough year emotionally with his wife forsaking his family and with having the pressure of putting an incompetent franchise on his back.

  2. Chris Stewart Says:

I’m sorry but these are all the same people Who couldn’t see Brady in a pirate uniform when he left the Pats. The Bucs offer Brady whatever he wants. Don’t count is out of the running too fast.

  3. Beej Says:

He may well play somewhere else next season, but it’s not like these guys know. They don’t know sh!t although they confidently claim they do

  4. bob Says:

tb12 will give his all and try to win as long as he is a buc

  5. cmurda Says:

I couldn’t blame the man if he still has the passion for the game to want to get far far away from Toddlet Bowles. I find myself wishing I had the power to press the magic button to remove him and his staff of jokers. With that said, would Tom really want to be part of another coaching regime unless he personally knows the coach. It would be likely that Tom would play somewhere else but that could change based on how this year ends.

  6. Teflon Don Says:

I just don’t see the point of him starting over again. What else do you have to prove? Doubt the Glazers will let him walk without a fight. You want Bowles gone? See ya! Oh you want a leftwich out as well? Goodbye! At this point you gotta be all in W/ Brady. Tough to go through divorce and all the misfortune we’ve had as a team. Would rather have a 60 year old Brady then any other option that’s out there. And please stop the Derrick Carr nonsense. He is terrible!

  7. D-Rok Says:

Even if Brady has an epic meltdown in next 2 games, loses both while adding 4 more INT’s, trust me, there will be suitors for his services next year – whether that be Tampa Bay, LV, Miami, NE or Beijing. Somebody will want him, if for nothing else than ticket sales, marketing, and merchandising.

If he wants to play next year, he will play and it’s all up to Brady.

  8. Old School Bucs Fan Says:

Another clown reporter making it up as he rolls out of bed! Brady will be back in Tampa and so will Gronk! See you all in the Super Bowl!!!!

  9. cmurda Says:

I’m with Don. Give TB12 an offer too good to refuse. He’s earned it. Wins a SB in his first year in Tampa and follows that up with a sick comeback in the NFCCG only to have it pooped away by a braindead defensive call. With all that said, Tom gives us a chance to win each week. Any other option would mean rebuilding and depressing. If he wants to play, let it be here. I do believe in the Glazers ability to do so but if we crap the bed Sunday and Toddlet is not canned, I can’t see Tom coming back. It really feels as though he is not happy with Todd and that could actually get the Glazers to fire Todd and his 1920’s style of coaching.

  10. NEfan Says:

LV, Tenn, Atl, Carolina, Jets, Giants, SF, Miami, Pat’s, Indy, Pitt, Detroit there are more option than one might think.

  11. NEfan Says:

cmurda, that’s not why Bucs lost to the Rams it was because they were tired and needed a nap.

  12. Bobby M. Says:

Bucs have cap issues coming next yr. We simply can’t put together a roster the same way other teams can. 49ers have all the offensive pieces plus a top 5 defense. Raiders have even more talent on offense but their defense isn’t as good. What do Bucs have to offer?….We’re projected to be $65 million over the cap. We need upgrades at LT/LG….David and Dean are free agents….and we’ll need a new offensive coordinator.

  13. HC Grover Says:

He wants 1 Buc and Coach Bowzo in his rear view mirror.

  14. Hodad Says:

Time for both parties to go their separate ways. Thanks for the memories Tom. Pay him with what Buc fans? We’re against the cap and if we give him all the money we can’t put a team around him. It’s over folks. Can’t compete with him this year, next will only get worse.

  15. Anonymous Says:

Good. Get this loser and traitor out of here. Nobody should forget that he tried to betray the team by making a play for Miami. Nobody should forget that he betrayed the team by going to the Glazers getting Bruce Arians kicked upstairs.

This losing season is on him. He ditched training camp, skips practices, goes to another team owner’s wedding, yells and screams at guys, etc. Tom Brady is not a problem with the Bucs. Tom Brady is the problem with the Bucs. This team is firmly in contention and with a winning record with someone like Aaron Rodgers or even Geno Smith.

The goodwill in Tampa Bay is dead for Brady.

  16. Paul Murphy Says:

If Tom goes anywhere it’s Miami with a coaching change to Sean Peyton. His kids are going to be in school in Miami and he’s not leaving them. Tua will more than likely retire to save his health and that leaves McDaniel and his system out in the cold. Look for Peyton to get the nod and bring in Brady as his QB. After all this was the plan for this year so ownership will just run it back next year.

  17. captivajim Says:

Brady and Gronk will be Raiders next season…..

  18. Destinjohnny Says:

There isn’t a QB on the planet that would choose to plaY BEHIND an awful offensive line.
Love Mike a Chris but they are plodders.
If TB had time both would have massive seasons.
Would Love to see TB with the eagles line and wideouts……

I see us next year being the worst team in football

  19. NYbucsfan Says:

@Joe, if you were a QB, would you want to play for Bowles?

  20. Erick Says:

I see some of you are still delusional about Brady wanting to be here. He didn’t want to be here this year, and you can see it in his face every week.

  21. Anonymous Says:

Pry Payton sign Tom to a year extension. Address O- line a bit
    Let’s go

  22. Rod Munch Says:

Brady is not coming back if these loser coaches, Bowles and Leftwich, are let in place, so the Glazers will have to clean house or convince Arians to come back for another year and demote Bowles.

But really it all comes down to how the season ends. If the Bucs somehow, someway, go on a historical run, then he’s back. But really, does anyone believe that the team is capable of that with these idiots coaching the team and calling plays?

So next year, instead, it’s going to be Tanking with Trask and vying for the worst team in football as they play for the top pick in 2024, then another 2-decades of rebuilding before they make the playoffs again.

  23. NEfan Says:

Anonymous, far from a traitor. He extended his contract to free up money to help the team. If he didn’t want to be here why make him stay? How is that fair. He gave the fans what they asked for made the Glazers and the city a shat lead if money and made the team relevant again. He’s done more than his share for this team. Don’t forget he came in making $25MM 1/2 the market value for a QB of his caliber.

Hodad, Bucs will owe $30M next season.

  24. Oneilbuc Says:

I hope he doesn’t come back let him walk it’s time for the bucs to move on and get younger. Brady will not be a better quarterback at 46 years old why wast time making up excuses for Brady next year the same way yall making up excuses this year. Next year yall would be blaming some one else for his bad play. I’ve never heard of a quarterback that is the least sacked quarterback in the NFL don’t trust his o line that’s not even logic.

  25. Bigbucfan90 Says:

I think if this was last year he would’ve went else where but I think after the divorce and his kids living in Florida he’ll either return to Tampa (Hints why we have players on 3 year deals) or retire. Either way tompa bay will always be remembered as bringing our city to life!

  26. Bigbucfan90 Says:

I hope Tampa gets the kids from Tennessee he has talent

  27. HC Grover Says:

Next year will prolly be a total demolition and a restart. What we have here is a Clunker. Bucs will have to go Super Cheap and let all free agents fly the coop.

  28. Goatfarmer Says:

Peter King doesn’t know any more about Brady’s potential return to the Bucs than my dog, although my dog doesn’t expect him back either.

  29. D-Rok Says:

Guys, do you realize we will have an extra 78mill in cap space next year due to the Google deal?

It’s a cap increase! We can sign back or keep some really good players for 2023. We need to increase talent on O-line, and simply keeping our skill players for 23 will keep us competitive. Just need to add a speedy RB, and get another quick-twitch slot receiver who can move the chains. Might need to add another tackle on O, and an edge (remember it’s possible Shaq comes back next year, but with achilles, it’s always a year minimum to return to form, IF an achilles ever regains form). I have other thoughts but that’s a time for another day, after the season is over.

    GO BUCS!!! Beat the Kitties!

  30. SO4 Says:

It will always sting that they did s…to tell Bowles to f..o… with his coaching
I was at the game in Phoenix last week, saw half Cardinals jerseys, the other half were primarily TB12 jerseys (Patriots and Tampa), it was the first time we saw the GOAT.

Good luck to the team Sunday, I’m sure Bowles will want mostly field goals and for only the defense to shine, he never put the team first, it has been his philosophy on offense all season, his philosophy for job security as a DC if they fire him.

  31. Goatfarmer Says:

Has Bowels given himself his release yet? Our only chance.

  32. NEfan Says:

D-Rok an elite QB will suck up half of that. Even Carr makes $40M & change.

  33. HC Grover Says:

The Buc Players are all singing ‘Take this Job and Shove it’

  34. gofortheface30 Says:

Rod Munch provided the correct take.

  35. Joe in Michigan Says:

Let me guess…Peter Puffer (aka Nostradumb@ss) had the Rams going back to the Super Bowl this year, didn’t he? I do remember him saying the Saints would go 13-4 this year. 🙄

  36. Lamarcus Says:

There is no Future in Brady. Thank you for your services, Tom. The only keeping Tom Brady I’m doing is a trade. This team is not good enough to carry a 46 year old Qb

  37. ocala Says:

Peter King doesn’t know anything, but it is a logical deduction to assume Brady will now want to be coached by the worst head coach and offensive coordinator in the league.

  38. Jack Sparrow Says:

It’s an easy choice for the Glazers, Door #1 Go with Brady and let hm pick his coaches or Door #2, Stick with the 2 bozos ruining this franchise to the ground and Brady moves on….. you don’t need to be an Einstein to figure this one out.

  39. Anonymous Says:

    @NE Fan

Gave us what we asked for? The Super Bowl was won because of the dominant defense shutting down Brees, Rodgers, and Mahomes. 15 other QB’s would have had the same result with that stacked roster.

  40. Jerry Says:

Not sure what happened in the 2nd half of 2001. But a falling out occurred that was bad enough for Brady to flirt with Stephen Ross and try to concoct a trade scheme. When that blew up, he decided to go through the motions to get through that last year of his contract. It’s quite obvious he didnt want to be here this year.

  41. NEfan Says:

Anonymous 31 points a game average in the PO’s not exactly one sided. How did they do against Washington? Comical how moronic some of you are. 31 points in the SB forcing the Cheifs to go one dimentional.

  42. NEfan Says:

Jerry the team fought back from a huge deficit and Bowles in one play pulled the rug out from underneath them. The Rams was the last tough team to get by.

  43. Bucsfan13 Says:

So 15 other QBs other would have been able to navigate learning a completely new offense during a pandemic with no offseason. 15 QBs would have been a culture changer for a downtrodden franchise? It’s not all about physical abilities. There are intangibles involved in the QB position. And please don’t act like Brady was a passenger in the championship run. If you want to go there, we would have never made it out of the wildcard against WFT if not for the offensive performative. We made Heineke look like prime Mark Rypien. The offense average 30 points during the playoffs. The defense was very good. It was a complementary win. Some people in our fan base are becoming just as insufferable as Saints fans.

  44. Bucsfan13 Says:

I have to think some of his teammates are sick of reading about Brady’s next destination by the media. The season isn’t even order and the media has crafted this narrative that Brady is already searching for new places. Brady is completely focused on this season. I think Brady retires after this season. He’s gonna be embarrassed when he finds that there is no market for a 46 year old QB who has shown regression. Brady has not put together good film for teams this year.

Brady wants to stay on the east coast. He has two baby mamas. One lives in Miami the other in NY. Jeff Darlington already reported that Brady isn’t moving west, so that elimainate LV and the 49ers. So what’s left? Colts already took their chance on an aging QB and it didn’t work, and the Colts have one of the worse OL in the league. Miami? The young coach is invested in Tua and you have those tampering allegations. NO? No way in hell. So what’s left? His options are limited. The Jets? No way. He doesn’t want the cold weather.

  45. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I used to think that Brady got rid of Arians, but Tom recently put that untrue rumor to bed.
I would bet money that Brady will not be back in Tampa next year.
Where he goes is anyone’s guess.
He may decide to just really retire, because the only contender he could go to is the 49ers, and they do not need him.
Miami seems set with TUA, so tell me, what contender does he go to ?
The other spots mentioned for him are far from contenders, even with Tom Brady.
Brady found a unique opportunity here in Tampa, and won a Super Bowl.

So, lacking a real contender to go to, Brady may just decide to hang up his cleats.

  46. Bubby Says:

Joe- it’s time to consider if Brady, the goat, is the problem this year. In addition to being moved, packed and gone from Tampa, he’s also proven over and over the fire isn’t there.

Could this team be better without Tom next year? Maybe. It sure hasn’t been good this year with him.

I think they’ll beat the Panthers at Raymond James on Sunday, followed by weeks of hype and a beating in the playoffs. They just aren’t good and Tom is the QB.

  47. adam from ny Says:

    imho:

tom would have to be a little crazy to start from scratch again…

    continuity is a plus…

being settled in and tweaking situations trumps a brand new palate…

if he leaves he must have had a really bad time here this season…

i think the glazers give him max leverage to be comfortable and feel at home for another year or two…

the only legit spot i see him bolting to is new england, to go back home for a final season tour, and one last shot for the storybook ending with that not so chill coach up in baah-ston

  48. NEfan Says:

    Anonymous

    2020 playoffs

Buc O put up 123 points
    Def gave up 78

So the way I see it, it’s a good thing Bucs scored so many points because D pretty much let up 20 a game.

  49. adam from ny Says:

also the warmer weather is good for tom at his age…

like i can’t see him go to the jets up in new york and freeze his old bones off while trying to stay limber, rejuvenated and guerrero-ized

  50. NEfan Says:

Bobby, NO fire, can you go back and watch the Rams, Saints & AZ game. They should have beat GB, Cleveland & Pitt if not for coaching. These players should ALL have their feet up on their couches right now if not for bad coaching.

  51. NEfan Says:

Adam, no one was better in inclement weather. Belichick made sure of that.

  52. adam from ny Says:

also we play the afc south next year…so the schedule should be easy enough and almost no cold weather…

    these are factors…

just imagine: tom’s toughest opponent next year could be the jacksonville jaguars…hey it’s possible

  53. adam from ny Says:

    NEfan:

old bones are a different set of bones…

    they respond to hits different…

they bounce back from injury different…

warm weather is always a big plus for an aging athletes…

tom might not be an old man, but he’s a very old athlete…

  54. adam from ny Says:

the only place really cold i can see him going is new england…for a final tour and it’s all familiar to him…

why would he bother going to new york per say…

    maybe for his son?…maybe

  55. HC Grover Says:

THE LAST 2 YEARS BOWZO HAD TO HOLD THE OPPONENT UNDER 25 POINTS. This year under 17.

  56. Anonymous Says:

Todd Bowles and Byron Leftwich are not the problem with the team. The problem is the selfish QB who ditched the team and now is out of sync with the players.

This selfish guy is going to be the reason Mike Evans doesn’t reach 1000 yards.

Please, get him out of here.

  57. Citruscountybuc Says:

King is a joke. Pull the tape when he was on mad dog early in the year picking NO to go to the NFC championship game.

  58. @eric Says:

Sean Payton is our answer and get rid of Radio 2.0

  59. Kentucky Buc Says:

Peter head used to be a Brady insider. Brady cut him off years ago. He doesn’t know shlt.

  60. stpetebucfan Says:

I’m not as saddened for we Buc fans as for Brady’s legacy if he leaves. If he adds a THIRD team to his resume it just start eroding his legend. Yeah he can say he did it with three teams but if he goes somewhere else and fails his career looks sad at the end…like too many other greats.

  61. Goatfarmer Says:

I don’t care about the Jets.

  62. Winny Testaverde Says:

Peter King… Left of Lenin and overall strange fella is well connected in league circles…for better or for worse. His predictions of who will go to the Super Bowl vs what Brady will do next year are completely different. Brady is as good as gone…for many reasons. I sure appreciated what he brought to The Bucs and he ain’t quite done yet. McDaniels has no doubt already texted/tampered with him. He and Gronk as a package deal seem more and more likely.

  63. NEfan Says:

stp@ that would suck. I say he has one more season in him to prove he didn’t cause this mess. If it turns out he fails I’ll come back and take all the shots the haters can throw at me.

  64. cmurda Says:

I heard all the same garbage after he initially retired. If he comes back, it was going to be with any team but the Bucs. He of course came back to the Bucs. I believe very little of what is said. If Peter King says it, then it’s smart to bet the under.

  65. Seattle Buc is back in TB Says:

One poster above who chooses to go unnamed really reminds me of the artist formerly known as Tmax

  66. alton d green Says:

Ar one point before the season started, ESPN had the Bucs at 17-0. Then the football Gods laughed and then farted out Todd Bowles as Head coach and look where we are at. But Biden got 80 million votes and the southern border is secured, right?

  67. Joe in Michigan Says:

My bad, King had Green Bay going to the Super Bowl. 🙄

He also had Dennis Allen of the Taints as a top 3 coach in the NFL, and even worse, he had Jameis Winston as a top 3 “Comeback Player of the Year” candidate! 😂🤣😂🤣😂

I get predictions wrong too, but I get paid a lot less (nothing) than King.

  68. catcard202 Says:

I expect TB12 & Gronk unite in Vegas for 1 last ride.

  69. Hodad Says:

Don’t care WTF he does anymore.

  70. Jimbo Says:

Don’t care WTF Brady says or does. He’s a SCHMUCK!

  71. Jimbo Says:

Gisele will take with a 20 something. Brady with a 20 something. Nuff said. Just to NOT see Brady and Rodgers win it all, I’d like to see Patty and the Chiefs wn it all.

  72. Bucschamp Says:

Tom and Gronk joins saints and Payton

    We are doomed

  73. Bucschamp Says:

Tom, Gronk and Payton joins Tyreek and the dolphins

    We are more doomed

JOE SAYS: “It should help Brady sell lots of his Brady brand underwear, though Joe has yet to buy a pair.”

I find that hard to believe.

  75. bucs4life Says:

Which QB in the league wants to play in our horrible offensive scheme?

  76. darengibo Says:

Seems all we heard for 2 years is Tom can’t stand BA and he wants him gone…. so BA is no longer coach, and now all we hear is Tom can’t stand Bowles/Lefty and yada yada….

Maybe someday we hear the whole truth (doubtful), but I firmly believe all the stress in Toms life (divorce can bring any man to their knees) played an impact along with hand/shoulder issues.

Does Tom play for Bucs 2023? Does Tom play AT ALL in 2023? Who the hell knows… I do know it has been a hell of a 3 year ride, and if TB12 wants to give it one more year for one more ring with Tampa? Sign me up!

  77. Reality check Says:

“I’ve never heard of a quarterback that is the least sacked quarterback in the NFL don’t trust his o line that’s not even logic.” Oniel

How bout this for logic. Sacks are a measure of two things, blocking and a Qb holding ball too long. If a Qb MUST release ball quickly to compensate for offensive line, as is the case here, a Qb can simultaneously not trust the line while also not taking sacks. Sound logical?
