No Adjustments (Again) Doom Bucs

December 18th, 2022

Little help for his QB.

Joe is in a Christmas mood right now, though Joe doesn’t want to play Santa Claus as badly as Tom Brady did in the second half tonight.

Joe will not tee off on failing Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich. Oh, he had his share of screwups tonight. But he’s not responsible for an up-back not fielding a clean direct snap on the punt team.

And Leftwich was not the guy on the field throwing two picks and fumbling away two other possessions — all in a row.

Merry Christmas!

But once again it didn’t seem Bowles made many adjustments. Bucs players — not wanting to look like whiners, as Jenna Laine of ESPN pointed out, suggested the Bengals were running more stunts on the defensive front to get more pressure on Brady.

Yes, Brady was jumpy tonight. Once he tried to take off running when he didn’t need to, saw he was about to get blasted, backed up and threw and damn near had a ball picked.

So did the Bucs make blocking adjustments or play-calling adjustments to make sure Brady had more time? More max-protect?

Joe didn’t see that. And it stands to reason; no adjustments are a hallmark of Leftwich’s offense this season.

And now the Bucs fly to Arizona to face the Cardinals on Christmas, themselves a team circling the drain. Will the immortal Trace McSorely become the next lousy quarterback to confuse a Bowles-coached defense?

    We still win the division!

    We’re the unflushable turd!

  2. Todd Says:

    “The Unflushables”

    #theunflushables

    It’s a thing.

  3. tbbucs3 Says:

Which game where you watching Joe? Brady had all day to throw for the majority of the game….as much as we’d like to pin this one on Leftwhich play-calling, it was poor execution from the players that cost the Bucs tonight

    Ex.
Brady INT in his own endzone
Lenny forgetting how to take a handoff
    Bradys strip sack
    The fake punt debacle

    But blame Leftwhich!

  4. Faspro Says:

Bucs barely beat crappy teams, we’ll see…

When a coaching staff has back to back games like this they usually get fired. It’s been the story to the whole season. This coaching has left a stenched on everyone including the players. Gonna be funny if they imploded here somehow and don’t make the playoffs. People just don’t understand how bad this coaching staff is. You never see todd bowles get emotional. The guy’s comatose.

  6. Bucsthis Says:

So tired of seeing the failure of a OC on this website. Just fire him already

  7. Tampabuscsbro Says:

    Just like the ravens game.

    What else is new?

  8. EA Says:

Everything has been weird since Brady retired, now I wish he would have stayed retired or played for another team.
We would never know what really happened behind closed doors but the whole chain of events since bradys retirement to him unritiring and BA quitting and Bowles getting promoted has back fired on the owners.
Experiment failed. Brady is not a head coach and neither is Todd Bowles.
I hope for the sake of the fans Glazers clean house and start looking for a real head coach, makes all the difference in the world.

  9. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    No hope Joe……no hope

  10. Frank Pillow Says:

Listen to Romo’c comments during the broadcast—sure he praises Lefty for incorporating motion and play action—but he also strongly implies that this team hasn’t done much in terms of high-level game-planning or scheming this year.

  11. Buczilla Says:

We’re not making good adjustments because we don’t know how to.

  12. Coburn Says:

Quite the opposite imo. Felt like we intentionally got away from all the things that were working well in the first half for no reason..I noticed early on we were actually using the whole field.. got Evans both across the middle and even crossing the field… Second half we got back to just run down the sideline… Also the announcers even mentioned. Lot less motioning. On defense feels like we let off and didn’t pressure burrow as much even though defense wasn’t really the issue. Or course turnovers were the biggest issue

  13. Coburn Says:

I actually felt first half like hmmm somebody is taking play calling out of Leftwich hands.. this is ok scriptured bu Arians because all this motion looks like last two years offense.. then second half looked like it went back to him calling

  14. NEfan Says:

ttsucs, what pick in the end zone? Idiot. First pick Brate made not attempt at the ball and the LB picked off the Turf, if there was no pressure what caused the strip sack and second pick when he got pounded by the blitzing LB? I have to rewatch the Lenny fumble before I blame it on anybody. Clearly Cincy made adjustments during the half and NO BL didn’t nothing to defend them.

  15. AmauryGuzman Says:

When a team stays consistently bad that’s on the coaching staff. Ever since the start of the season it has been that way. Think about that for a second. Their season high in points was 31 and that was in garbage time just like the last td today.

  16. AmauryGuzman Says:

Man if this team had brian daboll right now.

  17. Oneilbuc Says:

NEfan . Can you admit that Brady played bad today or you going to blame everyone else for Brady’s play on the field??

  18. tbbucs3 Says:

    NEloser

Take your Brady blinders off….Brate was open in space on a curl route in between 2 defenders and Brady clearly missed him

And no need to go back and rewatch anything because any opinion that you form will be wrong

  19. AmauryGuzman Says:

Oneilbuc brady wasn’t great but come on man thah strip fumble what can you do there? It seemed like the coaching staff didn’t adjust to what the bengals defense did in the second half.

  20. G-FUNK Says:

Watching this team is bad for my blood pressure. One step forward and two back the whole season long.

  21. Waterboy Says:

Turnovers giving the Bengals short fields doomed the Bucs.

  22. ChattBucsFan Says:

This team is soft and horribly prepared each game. soon as anything goes wrong they begin unraveling. Wish they could fire the staff now and start the next 10 year rebuild.

  23. tbbucs3 Says:

“thah strip fumble what can you do there?”

    Hold onto the football…

  24. HC Grover Says:

Only three weeks left of this miserable season. NFC South it is unloseable, no matter how hard they try.

  25. BrianBucs Says:

Obviously the difference in the game was at halftime the Bengals coaches made the proper adjustments and the Bucs coaches could not.

  26. ChiBuc Says:

@NE, I respect your commitment man. It’s impressively one dimensional and revisionist, and kinda reminds me of Lefty, his stubborn scheming, and absolute inability to adjust to the reality of the situation. But dude, unlike Brady, it is impressive how tight you hang onto dem balls

  27. Sbucs Says:

Two reasons for no adjustments: players and coaches hang out in the locker smoking dope instead of talking about what to do.
Second: those not participating in the smoking are calling their bookies to bet against the Bucs in the second half. Some reporter should do some sniffing.

  28. Sbucs Says:

Two easy for no adjustments: players and coaches are just hanging out in the locker smoking dope instead of talking about what to do. Not a care in the world.
Second: those not wanting to participate in the smoking are calling their bookies to bet against the Bucs in the second half. Some reporter should do some sniffing.

  29. Bosch Says:

Hey Todd. Bowels is the flushable turd. He needs to de flushed!

  30. Alanbucsfan Says:

Face it, Brady sucked in the 2nd half- he couldn’t even hand the ball off to Fournette without creating a turnover- this loss is not on the coaches.

  31. Zoocomics Says:

A lot of correct observations/comments on the board today.

@tbbucs3, I disagree that Brady had all day to throw the ball. First half with pre-snap motion, perhaps. Second half, he holds a fraction of a second more and our line gets called for holding. In fact there was a lot of holding I think the refs gave us a break on… and the Bengals were down 2 solid def lineman for the game. What I did see, which Romo and @Coburn on this board pointed out was that we went away from pre-snap motion on offense to start the second half, and by the time we picked it back up, I think we may have been tied? or we lost the lead. Why?

It’s like the coaching staff out thinks itself. I think the reason pre-snap motion was so successful was that the Bengals never saw it coming. We’ve been so predictable all season, and we came out slinging the rock. So did the Bucs assume they’d adjust for second half, and we go back to sh!t no pre-snap play calling? Why is the coaching staff so much smarter than us fans? Stupid.

This loss, for the first time since being a Buc, you can squarely put on Brady, it was so egregious you can almost say he was gambling on us losing, it was that bad. Romo and Nance were praising the greatness of the Bengals in the 2nd half and I call bullsh!t, we could not have beat ourselves more in last nights game than we did. 5 turnovers? Stupid game changing penalties (David’s Hold on Chase during that huge sack). Our def was on the field way too long in the second half.

This team actually gives me hope if we limp into the playoffs and somehow get Jensen back and everyone else that’s dinged up gets a bit healthier.

  32. Thisisouryear!! Says:

I don’t think this was the game calling. You can’t give the ball away 4 times deep in your own territory and expect to win. Brady had a quarter that everything that could go wrong did. And after that everyone was scrambling for what to do. I’m very encouraged by the first half though. I hope we build off of that. Brady has had 4 bad quarters in 23 years. It’s over. If we can play like we did in the first half, we are going to be tough to beat.

  33. BucsfanFred Says:

To flush … The unflushable turd
    To fight the unfightable swirl
    To breathe the unbreatable stench
    To wretch, the unwrethable hurllllll
    Erkk

  34. Oddball Says:

What is this adjustment thing you speak of?

  35. NEfan Says:

Oneil, I will answer your question, NO he did not play well THE SECOND half and that’s on him. If we are being honest, Cincy clearly made adjustments adding more pressure on Brady and shutting down Evan’s. What did the Bucs coaches do? Nothing except give Cincy 3 more points on a fake punt from your own 27 leading by 14 points, that’s ludicrous. Ttsucs, why is Brate on the field? Did you see the screen pass he caught? Beady could have beat him to the 1st down marker.

Unlike the ignorant on this site I saw some real good football out of the Bucs the 1st half but if your coaches fail to make adjustments Bucs go nowhere. 79 points in 2 games, that’s ok???

  36. 97 bucBaby Says:

Why aren’t people outside this dude house running him outta Tampa

  37. ChrisBuc23 Says:

Get rid of this trash can already!!!

  38. Mike Johnson Says:

There you Buc fans go again. Blaming coaching. Did Leftwich throw all of those interceptions yesterday? Did he fumble in Bengals territory? Did he or Todd Bowles commit all of the penalties? I swear some of you guys are the worst. Next year when Trask is offered up as a sacrifice to the football Gods? Its gonna get real ugly. Won’t matter who the coaches are. IF..the Bics organization was smart, They would be canvassing everywhere trying to find a QB with some mobility. But don’t worry, they are not..smart

  39. NEfan Says:

Mike NO Johnson @ Did you watch the game? Bowles handed them 3 points before the half and luckily only 3 beginning of the second half. The O went back to conservative to protect a 14 point lead to one of the best QB’s in the league. WTF man, he cut the O’s balls off.

  40. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

  42. Will Says:

The quarterback is the key of winning games and I noticed that Tom Brady fumbling the ball. That is not Tom Brady, because he protects that ball better than any quarterback in NFL Remember good leadership wins games!!!

  43. italnsd Says:

As many connoisseurs in here pointed out, Tom Brady not protecting the ball during a strip sack and throwing 2 interceptions is the reason we are 6-8, In spite of all the greatness our coaches. As Mike Johnson schooled us, coaches cannot be blamed because they did not throw interceptions and did not fumble. A deceptively simple statement with far-reaching consequences. In fact, by the same token, coaches cannot be praised after a victory because they do not throw TDand the weird obsession of all teams about having them is s nor catch or intercept balls. Since they do not do any of those things, coaches are obviously useless the obvious conclusion is that coaches are useless and having them is a weird obsession coaches are useless, and any blame or praise that goes in thePutting 2+2 together, the obvious conclusion is that coaches cannot be blamed nor praised because … they are useless as they do not play the game actually do not play the game! Damn,

seemingly obvious statement This As a natural extension of his point, please stop lauding coaches after victories can also not be lauded after a victory because they
