Bucs Beating Bucs

December 23rd, 2022

Rotten road offense.

It’s a term Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians gave life in his first year with the Bucs in 2019.

Current head coach Todd Bowles has continued to speak about it. And that term is “Bucs beating Bucs.”

What does this mean? It means the Bucs stub their toes or lose because they do dumb things (turnovers are often the culprit).

But on Sunday night, can the Bucs beat those recent trends? It’s been such an ugly trend that even the soft Cardinals’ defense may not matter.

No team is giving up more points per game this season than Arizona. But then, there’s the Bucs, as Rich Hribar of Sharp Football Analysis points out.

Tampa Bay has scored a touchdown on 8.7% of their drives on the road this season, the lowest rate in the league.

Watching the offense on the road is like watching an old man with arthritis trying to climb a steep hill. It’s borderline painful and plenty ugly.

If the Bucs cannot move the ball on the road, it won’t matter how soft Arizona’s defense is.

Would like to see Gage and Otton involved in more plays Sunday night. Evans with some slant routes and Godwin up the middle. Have Scotty run a few go routes as a decoy to help make these work. Keep the play action working and keep the tempo moving so their defense can’t make substitutions. We can cover the 6.5 spread if we stay focused.

Should have said: “Leftwich Beating Bucs”

  3. Barber HOF 2023 Says:

LEFTWICH IS A JAMEIS WINSTON CLONE(but in OC form)

DOING WHATEVER POSSIBLE TO SABOTAGE THE TEAM
OBVIOUSLY WERE NOT BUILT FOR THE TYPE OF BALL CONTROL OFFENSE THEY KEEP TRYING TO FORCE OVER AND OVER AND FREAKING OVER

FIRE TODD OR LEFTWICH AND LET BRUCE BE OC AND CALL PLAYS

LOOK WHERE WE WOULD BE RECORD WISE IF WE LOST TO SAINTS/RAMS

FIRST HALF OF BENGALS SHOWED WHAT WE CAN DO REGULARLY

WHY NOT OPEN THE OFFENSE ONE TIME
WHATS THE WORST THAT COULD HAPPEN, YOU WIN 38-10 SMH
BTW TOM IS LEAST SACKED QB

1 more thing other teams are winning more with less
So theres no excuses (jags WC JETS just to name a few)

  4. Statistically Insignificant Reader Says:

Bowles Leftwich circle jerk shet show. Brady will recover from his 4 turnovers. Go Bucs in spite of these asinine coaches.

  5. Curse of Gruden Says:

    “Byron Beating Bucs”

  6. SB~LV Says:

Are they flying out today to get adjusted to the time difference like they did for the 49ers ?

Bucs played a great 1st half vs Bengals. So, they’re capable of being a good team if they stay healthy and avoid mistakes.
The key to getting into playoffs and having success will be getting and staying healthy, because Bucs’ depth leaves alot to be desired. They need Wirfs, Winfield, Dean and Vea on the field.
They’re not last years’ team or the year before.
But a healthy Bucs’ team is pretty good.

  8. BucU Says:

The sooner this miserable season is over the better.
That point will be proven at least twice in the last 3 games.

  9. NEfan Says:

One can only hope Bowels has changed is philosophy and takes the reigns off this O.

  10. Another I Says:

We’re facing another back up quarterback this week.
I’m struggling to remember the last time we’ve beat a backup quarterback.

  11. Mike C Says:

Barber Hof, your cap lock button was stuck….

  12. Craig Says:

Leftie beating the Bucs offense into the ground is a better headline. You can tell that by the way they started the second half last week.

Looks to me like he can confuse the issue enough to stop the offense in its tracks.

  13. Since76 Says:

I dont care of its bowles or Leftwich responsible for the lack of good coaching on offense. The offense is failing with incredible talent. If the GM do want want to hold them accountable. Fire him. Come on owners do your job.

    Expect 6 points. Maybe 3.

  15. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

The first half of the Bengals game shows what a great team we can be, when coached properly.
However, the Bengals adjusted to us in the second half, but we failed to adjust, and we all saw what happened!
We keep getting not only outplayed, but outcoached as well.
Poor Coaching is killing this team!
The 49ers game was another example.
The 49ers lost Deebo Samuel in that game, but thanks to their great coaching scheme, never missed a beat.

  16. Goatfarmer Says:

Arians had refs at practice and the Bucs penalties went down. They were petty clean. This year, penalties have in some ways been even more costly than turnovers.

Bowels would have coached the 1972 Dolphins to a 3-11 record.

  17. Redeemer Says:

It’ll definitely be a battle of wits. Dimwits that is. Kingsbury is as challenged as Bowles and BL, when it comes to adjusting on the fly. If they lose to a team that’s already planning for next year, it’ll be the biggest disappointment of the season. Who knows, the division my come down to tiebreakers via record vs. NFC opponents. On paper, the bucs should squash these guys. But like KM used to say, games aren’t played on paper, but inside TV sets.

  18. Goatfarmer Says:

After the game, a couple Cardinals’ nobodies we’ve never heard of will be famous, splashed all over the national media, raved about as to how they helped the Cards destroy Tom Brady and the Bucs.

  19. JokersParadigm Says:

Ahhh, the sweet sound of Bucs’ fans. :>)

  20. Sumosam Says:

Just look around the league. I don’t see many teams as bad as the Bucs this year. It is pretty sad to see this team implode. I’m as optimistic as possible but it’s not good. It’s sad that the season boils done to a game against the Panthers. How sad is that

  21. orlbucfan Says:

Bucs been beating themselves since forever. I hope a few leaders had some words with Methusaleh 0 about winning this game tonight.
