Todd Bowles More Concerned With Bucs Than Rams

November 2nd, 2022

Bucs coach Todd Bowles.

A few weeks ago, this appeared to be a circled game on the schedule.

This was supposed to be the Clash of the Giants to determine NFC supremacy. The Bucs were going to get revenge on the Rams for knocking them out of the playoffs in January.

Now? It’s two guys from a capsized boat fighting over the only life preserver. The Bucs and the Rams are three-win teams.

A Rams loss puts their season in jeopardy. A loss by the Bucs is bad but not yet fatal, thanks to the terrible NFC South.

So how is Todd Bowles preparing for Sunday afternoon’s game? Well, he’s not really worried about the Rams. He’s trying to fix his team.

In a sitdown with Dan Lucas of WFLA-TV Channel 8, Bowles said he has to right the pirate ship before he can start losing sleep over the Rams.

“We spent a lot on our team,” Bowles said of the extra prep time after last week’s Thursday night game. “Obviously, we wanted to make some tweaks in the right direction.

“So we spent a lot of time looking at ourselves. Scouting ourselves. Seeing what we do well and what we continually make mistakes on that we need to change and go forward from that standpoint. We can’t spend time on the Rams if we don’t spend time on ourselves.”

Joe sure hopes one of the things Bowles could tweak is to somehow get Carlton Davis and Antoine Winfield back on the field. Davis didn’t play against the Crows with a bum hip. Winfield is in concussion protocol.

Cooper Kupp kills the Bucs when the secondary is healthy. Without Logan Ryan, Davis and Winfield, Kupp could light up the Bucs for 200 yards despite being banged up.

The Bucs badly need Davis and Winfield.

Captain Bowles has a problem. His boat has 10 holes and he only has one cork.

“Obviously, we wanted to make some tweaks in the right direction.”

    “TWEAKS?”

    How about “Whole Sale CHANGES!”

“We can’t spend time on the Rams if we don’t spend time on ourselves.”

So, can we expect that we will be “Tennessee Ready” for the Rams?

    These coaches have no clue.

  3. Defense Rules Says:

AKicknTheBucNuts … ‘These coaches have no clue.’

I don’t see it that way. These coaches know exactly what they’ve got to work with, and there are too many weak links on BOTH sides of the ball. NFL OCs & DCs are experts at sniffing out the oldest, slowest wilderbeasts & attacking there. And without their own beasts, it’s almost impossible to compensate for. Evidence the Ravens game.

Todd Bowles is an excellent DC who should never have been dual-hatted as our HC. Pick one of the other, but not both. The team he inherited has a number of bonafide superstars IMO, but not nearly enough to compensate for the ‘weak links’. THAT’S on our GM, Jason Licht. He provides the talent … or lack of it … not Bowles. But it’ll be Todd Bowles who’ll end up being the sacrificial lamb, while JL quietly hides in his office & lets Bowles (and Leftwich) twist in the wind.

    once upon a time…

this was thee game of the year…

    then i woke up

  5. Oddball Says:

Up next, our annual beat down from the Rams. The Steelers were bad , Carolina was bad and the Ravens were bad.

Now the Rams are bad. So would you expect anything less than a loss. Nothing has changed on this team to suggest improvement. So it’s 3-6

  6. Hodad Says:

Sorry, that picture of Todd Bowles does not inspire confidence in me. From what we’re seeing on the field, the team feels the same way.

  7. Jeff Says:

    Clueless Todd Bowles

  8. Listnfrmafar Says:

Another diversion, he spent extra time on his resume last Rams game. DR, excellent DC, talk about drinking the koolaid.

  9. richbucsfan Says:

Get used to the beat downs. This team will finish 3-14. They are trying to win #1 in the draft.

  10. Thisisouryear!! Says:

DR- I personally think it’s coaching when you can’t get a team to play for 4 quarters. Arians would be screaming expletives at players getting them to play. The other thing is Arians wouldn’t allow the play calling to continue like that. I’ll give you that injuries are hurting this team, but the horses are there to play some good ball.

Now little jeff go put moms phone back on night stand you little creepy troll

“Seeing what we do well” — that’s about 3 minutes of film

  13. Pewter Warrior 813 Says:

Rams have one receiver and if Bowles can’t scheme a way to limit him (like other teams have been able to) then this clown is in over his head

  14. Marine Buc Says:

Last week I took the Ravens +2 points – seemed like a no-brainer to me.

Sure enough it was easy money…

This week I am taking the Rams + 3 – seems like another no-brainer.

Rams defense is still very good and the Bucs offense is lost and rudderless…

Rams offense is still pretty solid while the Bucs defense is lost and rudderless – not to mention all the injuries to key players like Winnfield, Davis, SMB, Hicks, Barrett, etc…

Again – this is easy money.

    Go Bucs!

  15. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

The Rams are very beatable, plus we have had 10 days to prepare for them.
With Cooper Cupp, they are a one receiver team, and he may not play ?
Of course, they still have Aaron Donald, but I still think we beat them Sunday and start to turn our season around.

  16. Ed Says:

You have to be concerned with your opponents. Just looking at what you do in the fishbowl of One Buc Place is part of the problem. See what other successful coaches are doing and adapt some of your stubborn sets so that your opponent doesn’t have such an easy time reading what you are going to do.

Yeah, I’d be concerned about the Rams and to beat them. Most sports are mental, if players are tight or over-hyped, they make mistakes. Winning is about confidence and swagger, not something you see much of on the Bucs or that coaching staff.

  17. MadMax Says:

Nope, I know Buc luck….we’ll start winning just enough to get us out of a top 15 draft but still wont be in the playoffs, or one and done if we sneak in.

    Its a Bucs life!

  18. Show Me the TDs Says:

Maybe spend time installing a pace maker in Devin White’s chest.

  19. MadMax Says:

I’ll give Bowles credit though, if they want to make anything of this season, they need to work on themselves, including him and his boy BL.

But Im not counting on it…if anything Im counting on a 3 or 4 win season and a great draft pick for Will Anderson…then we get Bo Nix 2nd round.

  20. Listnfrmafar Says:

Can anyone guess where Aaron Donald will line up??? I hope Bowels guesses right.

I don’t think 9-8 wins the division for us

  22. Your Mom Says:

I can’t wait to call a bunch more blitzes at the wrong time! – Todd Bowles

  23. Crickett Baker Says:

Bowles actually said: “We are jumbled up..” ! He said that. THAT sounds like something he has no clue how to fix. God. And that was pretty funny, Willie G, and pretty much true.

  24. Goatfarmer Says:

Fans are more concerned with Bowelswich than anything.
