The must-watch Todd Bowles accountability speech to the team is in the video below.
Presumably it was given a few days prior to the Week 9 Rams game, which makes it more interesting.
The video is from the In The Current series at the Buccaneers official website. Episodes are sort of a Bucs in-house Hard Knocks-style show minus naughty words and a lot of intrigue.
Bowles does a fantastic job with the speech and Joe is not going to waste time quoting it. Just watch it. It’s good.
The head coach dives into how the players don’t want greatness enough to be challenging coaches and each other as much as they should be. And he tries to explain why the Bucs don’t have enough fire on gameday, in part by implying that players are too comfortable with their riches. (Shaun King was on the money.)
What intrigued Joe was that the Bucs heard this motivational speech, got back into practicing for the Rams game, and then went out and laid an egg on offense — at home — until heroics in the final seconds gave them a 16-13 win.
Why were they so flat through much of that game?
It doesn’t matter now, especially after their terrific showing against the Seahawks and a bye week. But it does make Joe wonder whether the team fully has shaken its rough start.

Complacency is a sneaky, dangerous thing. Two in a row sure helped but they really have only approached the corner. The bye week came at an interesting time. Did they get comfortable again or are they itching to get back out there and keep the momentum going? They’ve put themselves in a position where every game for the rest of the season will feel like a must win. Are they up for that? Man, I sure hope so, cuz the NFC feels like it’s up for grabs still.

The fact that he had to give this speech is of concern. The fact they came out flat against the Rams is even more concerning. I’m for getting rid of anyone who doesn’t want to play a full 60 minutes of football for the Bucs. They have the opportunity to prove to the NFL world they aren’t soft and disengaged. We will find out on Sunday.

Have to say that was a very good speech, and addresses thinks Sapp and Shaun King have been saying for quite awhile.
The Seahawks game reminded all of us what a great team we can be, when we are playing correctly.
WE beat the dog poop out of the NFC West leading Seahawks, who never knew what hit them!
You could see it in their eyes, and many of them were in total disbelief that we were beating them so badly.
If that version of the Tampa Bay Bucs shows up in Cleveland tomorrow, the Browns are in serious trouble.

Good speech, but they looked horrid at home against the Rams right afterwards. Interesting indeed. I don’t like how he softened up the message by saying “I’m not saying you’re not playing hard”. Bowles doesn’t need to apologize or tip toe around the message, especially when it comes to effort. Sounded like he was afraid to be too demanding, which is exactly what this team needs. A nice speech nonetheless; and they’re 2-0 since.
