Tom Brady Still Slinging It

October 31st, 2022

Still firing.

Joe senses a growing narrative among fans and within #NFLMedia that Tom Brady is washed.

Hardly! Take a guess who leads the NFL in passing? Take a guess which starter who has played at least seven games has the fewest picks?

That would be Brady. At 45. There are probably 25 teams who would kill to have Brady on their rosters right now.

Joe posted a video over the weekend where famed defensive coach Wade Phillips said Brady might have slipped a hair on long balls, but his short throws are still vintage Brady and he still protects the football as if one of Gisele’s lawyers is about to grab his yacht.

Enter Brian Baldinger to riff on Brady. Baldinger, a former NFL offensive lineman, basically says get out of here with that ish about Brady dragging down the Bucs. Baldinger used video to highlight how Brady is still crazy accurate.

So yeah, Joe understands how fans are frustrated that, for whatever reason, Brady cannot use his magic wand and make everything on offense better.

So why is Byron Leftwich still employed?

Joe,Byron Left is still employred because his head coach is still employed. The Bucs must mak a bowel movement.

  2. SB Says:

Too many slip ups the last 5 games to place blame on Any one position or group.
There is enough blame to go around for everyone but Succop.
We wanted a good kicker. Well, now at least we have one.

  3. Howard Cosell Says:

    Lefty is just bad. Period.

  4. Howard Cosell Says:

The Bucs must make a bowel movement.

    ^Howard laughed

Very true though. The Bucs are constipated with garbage in their intestines and it’s making them lethargic. They need to take a huge purging Bowel movement to get things flowing again

  5. Howard Cosell Says:

Bucs had better get their spit together QUICKLY if they want a prayer of Brady playing here for another year

  6. Vancouver Buc Says:

Exactly, Baldy is spot on. It’s the coaches that are responsible for motivating the players and there is zero fight in them.

  7. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Sadly, Brady gets all the blame when it’s the horrendous coaching and heartless players around him. Brady didn’t deserve this sh#tshow but GM Licht along with Bowles and Leftwich orchestrated this mess with some help from the BA coaching succession plan. Teams are winning with lesser talent and hungrier players. This team took on the personality of its coach, dull, lifeless, stubborn and unimaginative.

  8. adam from ny Says:

i saw the panthers and falcons play very very hard today…

that’s all i have to say on this given sunday

  9. Derek Says:

Let’s win these next two games and go into the bye 5-5. Wins are all that matters right now

  10. Lamarcus Says:

Brady is known for great accuracy thats why Brady is in question because alotta balls are just aim for the dirt, overthrown…Last year around this time he had 25 tds…this year is 9. No true chemistry with the receivers, etc. Cranky.

I think he’s just okay but it’s not winning football on offense. It’s truly just meh. Brady was an MVP candidate last year around this time. Now he’s questionable

For me he’s gets a pass because I’ve never been an offense type of guy. Defense is my thing and our defense blows and carry cant this team.

  11. Rand Says:

Seems to me that Brady has moved away from everything that he mastered in New England. He was deadly accurate on slants and intermediate out routes and behind the shoulder throws but we don’t see those play calls very often anymore. It’s either the behind the scrimmage quick throws, screens, or check downs and occasionally seams, skinny post, and sideline routes which his accuracy isn’t as good. He more times than not over throws the receivers. His corner fade throws have been terrible, most of the time he throws them out of bounds. Poor scotty Miller has yet to get a perfect pass from Brady without trying to make some miraculous catch and then gets clobbered by the defender. It’s simple, either Brady is distracted or he’s declining in his ability.

  12. steele Says:

Rand, you are correct. This offense is not the McDaniels/Weis offense, any more than the team in general has been, except for the comforting presence of Gronk. When Brady came to Tampa, he was fired up and refreshed at having the chance to do different things after nearly 20 years, and it showed. But that enthusiasm waned, along with the quality of the coaching (BL, TB), the loss of reliable veterans, and youngsters and JAGs on offense who have not emerged as great.

If you replaced Leftwich with a good OC right now, someone who knows how to utilize Brady, it would be night and day. You’d see him look close to vintage.

That is why this season is so sad. It could have been like the final seasons of Elway or Manning with the Broncos, teams truly built around sunsetting QBs, including their weaknesses. Instead, what does Brady get? He gets treated like any average NFL QB. An average and underperforming roster, as is, bad coaching that doesn’t cater to his game at all, and a general take it or leave it agenda.

  13. Lamarcus Says:

And just like Jameis and Dak…you will always be a top leader in passing yards when your defense is atricous. Always playing from behind

  14. Sal Says:

As long as these 2 coaches are hired by the bucs I am a die hard bucs fan but I won’t be spending any more money on this team my football season is officially over top 5 pick here we come #!!

  15. Bucsfan13 Says:

@Rand. Yes, he’s had some poor throws, but it’s been nowhere as bad you’re describing. Also, so if he’s off, we have no chance of winning? He’s no different than any other QB who has poor throws. It happens to the best of them. Sure, Gisele is the reason why he will occasionally sail a ball over a receiver’s head. Big brain thinking there I tell ya. He’s declined, but it’s not been as drastic as you’re describing. Most analysts say that he can still make the requisite throws. My opinion is that something is off with his mechanics, particularly his feet. I say this as someone who has studied him since college and watched his evolution. His finger and shoulder are also still bothering. I think the finger is bothering him more than the shoulder.

The word “washed” gets thrown out way too causally for me. A person with a slight decline in skill isn’t washed. The same morons who call Brady washed also call Rodgers washed. The word is reductive. Washed is Manning, Marino, and Favre, and Moon’s last seasons. Brady is not washed. At this stage of his career, he’s just a “good” QB. That should be enough to score points with just a competent coaching staff. Do you think Zach Wilson with all his athletic marvel would have this team in a better position? Give me a break!

Now that his divorce is final, I’m so happy some of you people will quit whining about a distraction that I’ve always maintained didn’t exist. Also, the total cognitive dissonance of some to say Brady gave up his family for football and then say he’s not all in is laughable. If you were to accept that assertion, then there is no doubt his teammates know this guy is all in, and that’s what matters. Matter of fact, his teammates are probably empathic to his situation. Who knows what issues they might dealing at home. Their business just isn’t spread out on national news. If Burrow and Mahomes can support Brady, I’m sure his teammates have his back.

  16. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘Take a guess who leads the NFL in passing? Take a guess which starter who has played at least seven games has the fewest picks? That would be Brady.’

As is so often the case Joe, you’re cherry-picking stats to prove what you want to prove. Yes TB12 leads the NFL in yards passing & in fewest INTs. He also leads the NFL in Most Passing Attempts (340) by a substantial amount so it would kinda make sense that a QB like Brady would lead the league in Passing Yardage also. His completion percentage (65.9%) is about standard for Brady … and has him tied with Mac Jones of the Patriots well down the list.

His Passing TDs Thrown (9) have him tied with Matt Ryan at #17 in the NFL (did I mention that Matt Ryan has now been benched?). His Percentage of 1st Downs by Throwing sits at 32.4% (WAAAY down the list and well below the Colts’ Matt Ryan’s 34.7%).

Reality is that Brady is having a meh year FOR HIM, largely because his OLine isn’t protecting him well enough, our running game sucks (see OLine once again) thus we’re having to pass too much, our receivers aren’t getting separation, and oh ya, our OC has no clue how to fix this thing. Other than that, yes we’re doing fantastic.

Oh BTW Joe, only FOUR teams have passed OVER 300 times thus far this year … Bucs (340), Cards (329), Colts (320) & Chargers (308). Only 1, the Chargers, has a winning record (4-3) & they’re struggling. Defenses have figured out how to counter teams who rely almost solely on the pass.

  17. beano Says:

    Give it up, Joe.

  18. Listnfrmafar Says:

DR, nice stats what you fail to mention is ALL four of those teams have a RUNNING game and BETER COACHING! The Patriots are 4&4. There are three reasons Bucs cannot score in the red zone, one I already mentioned is NON-EXISTENT running game, NO end zone target they double Evan’s and most of all PISS POOR play calling. You also can’t teach heart and these players have quit on Bowels. At least Brady is still one of the few going down kicking and screaming. With this team and coaches he is NOT going to put up numbers like the last two seasons. It’s the coaches.j9b to figure out how to work around scoring less than 31 pts a game.

  19. beano Says:

Thanks Joe for another “Tom Brady is the GOAT” article.

  20. Listnfrmafar Says:

Sit Brady and watch this team spiral off into the abyss. Let beanbag, Oneilsuckyall, YUC with his 4 stadium seat, (still find that hilarious) yuc, yuc, get their wish start Trask and the Glazers can watch all their money get flushed. Stadium seats I wouldn’t watch them from the Goodyear Blimp.

    #BATBBLJLkilledtheBUC&GOAT

  21. Listnfrmafar Says:

DR, you also fail to list Roger’s, he has more TD’s as does Dalton, Goff & Murray, how they doing???

  22. Jonny Says:

Brady is struggling big time. His ability to throw hasn’t diminished in the slightest bit. These two concepts are not mutually exclusive. Brady is too important to try to fix the position. The least we can do is give our team a chance by firing Leftwich and trading away Devin White for even a B- player.

  23. shak_bucs Says:

Give him all the praise when we win but no flack when we lose. Comedy.
