Todd Bowles Updates Player Injuries

October 10th, 2022

Injury and status updates.

Naturally, a day after a game, injuries and the status of players that left the game hurt are a big topic. Today was no different for Bucs coach Todd Bowles.

Joe will create a brief list of players Bowles spoke about and their projected status. Joe already typed about Akiem Hicks.

Carlton Davis (hip): “Sore,” said Bowles. He’s not getting an MRI. Status for Sunday undetermined. Famed JoeBucsFan.com columnist Ira Kaufman spoke with Davis after the game and Davis told Kaufman about his likely status next week. The podcast is currently in the production stage so keep an eye out for that.

Sean Murphy-Bunting (quad): “Sore,” said Bowles. He is getting an MRI. Status for Sunday undetermined.

Mike Edwards (arm): Bowles said, “I think he should be okay.”

Chris Godwin: Bowles said Godwin is fine. The coaching staff held Godwin (and others) back in the second half as they didn’t want to wear them out.

Julio Jones (knee): Status uncertain. Bowles added that if Jones cannot go, you know he is really hurt because he’s such a warrior.

Russell Gage (back/hamstring): Bowles said his status for Sunday at Pittsburgh has yet to be determined. “I’m not sure about this week.”

Logan Ryan (foot): When asked if Ryan could play at Pittsburgh, Bowles said, “Probably not.”

Cam Brate (concussion): Bowles said if Brate clears concussion protocol, he will play. Brate’s status currently is, said Bowles, “day-by-day.”

  1. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Starting to mount……Perriman should be back if Gage can’t go…..but it seems Gage has been able to play with his injuries…although he’s obviously affected.

  2. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Julio Jones just needs to retire

…….and Cam Brate is pretty much useless as the rest of our TEs on this team so it doesn’t even matter if they

And spare me the “cade otton” talk please…..Receiving TEs are a dime a dozen…..we need a TE who can block and catch and that’s NOBODY on this current Buc’s team

  3. CrackWise Says:

The hit Gage took on his back looked jarring. It was the pass that was overthrown, and the DB dropped the easy INT.

The replayed the DBs drop on the broadcast but all I saw was Gage getting smashed in the back!!!

Would not be surprised if he is OUT for a game or two.

  4. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Russell Gage isn’t the “speed threat” we thought he would be…..he’s a pretty crappy route runner compared to Chris Godwin.

  5. LVMYBUCS Says:

Can we get a refund please on Julio Jones.

  6. David Says:

So basically need to keep an eye on Carlton Davis and Russell Gage. Those are the big ones.

Brate is probably out and I want OTTON in anyway.
Julio it’s probably out this month
They should be OK this week without Logan Ryan. Heck, against Pittsburgh Neal might be better to have in there more anyway. Lay some lumber on Harris

Mike Edwards and Godwin are good to go.

  7. TheBucsAnthem Says:

All out DBs with exception of CD and SMB are suspect…..

Infact….this whole damn Defense is suspect now the Bucco Brucie is gone and Bowles is the HC

…..this whole teams seems to have gotten “soft” over the course of the off season.

  8. CrackWise Says:

    Regarding our TE situation.

I am surprised KR was not listed with a Bruised EGO and may be out for the season.

I would love to see Brate get back BUT please don’t rush him back. He has taken a couple of bad hits to his head this season.

Love seeing Otton step up in the passing game. Seems like all of his catches were because he got separation and or Brady was testing him. He looks like a solid all-around TE.

Now, let’s see some more of those two back sets with White or Lenny and Ko leading the way. Then give Ko some passes out of the play action.

  9. LVMYBUCS Says:

Hey Joe can I add a acatar to my screen name?

  10. #8 Says:

    Suh.

  11. Defense Rules Says:

Crackkwise … ‘Now, let’s see some more of those two back sets with White or Lenny and Ko leading the way. Then give Ko some passes out of the play action.’

Hold on for a second Crackwise. Are you implying that our OC should use some IMAGINATION and CREATIVITY in designing plays? That’s much too radical. Anything other than ‘Pound it up the gut’ would be considered heresy.

  12. Crickett Baker Says:

I think BA needs to make a “firing up” speech at a team meeting. These months Brady doesn’t seem too capable of doing it. There seems to be a black cloud hanging over our team but they are still able to ball. There is just something different.
I also think they should make an injury settlement with Hicks and say goodbye.

  13. Defense Rules Says:

#8 … JL’s plan is to wait until Hicks’ foot heals, then start him until he gets hurt again. That’s 2nd priority though to JL bringing Carl Nicks back to start at Left Guard. We’re good; all contingencies covered.

  14. The Beer Whisperer Says:

Bucs are like a M*A*S*H unit.

They need a bigger medical tent.

  15. Rod Munch Says:

If there’s nothing wrong with Brady, why was he throwing so many terrible looking passes in the 3rd and 4th and really bailing on everything really quickly as if he really really didn’t want to get hit? Of course, Brady is a champion, so when it mattered he was able to tough it out on that last series, but I’d swear he look like his hand was killing him, because some of those passes in the second half, before that last drive, looked terrible – were inaccurate and wobbling. I’m not in any way criticizing Brady, but that’s just not how he plays, so there had to be something going on.

  16. Mike Johnson Says:

I have no faith in Julio, down at the schoolyard Jones. Atlanta and Tenn got rid of him for a reason. He;s done. Stick a fork in’em. We might get 4 or 5 games out of him if we are lucky.

  17. SB~LV Says:

Godwin had one tackle when he was upended and his knee impacted the ground at 90 degrees, I don’t know if it was his surgical knee but he didn’t show any outward signs that it bothered him. Later his knee was tangled up in a tackle.
Both were good tests and experiences for him to have.

  18. JP Says:

Hey BucsAnthem if receiving tight ends are a dime a dozen then WTF do you call Kyle Rudolph ? 😂

  19. Winny Testaverde Says:

Bowles calls Jones a warrior…I think he means thief. I kid of course…just pretty frustrating.

  20. Jmarkbuc Says:

Goedeke better get it together or TB12 gonna get snapped in half.

And what exactly IS Ryan Jensen’s injury?

  21. Listnfrmafar Says:

Gage could use a break, he is playing hard, if any of you ever had a bad hammy pull, it takes forever to heal. Ya think maybe his speed is hindered by the hammy? Think before you post. Again, NO game in the NFL is a gimme, don’t overlook Pittsburgh. Riddle me this Batman, why can a 45 yr old man play through his injuries yet 20 something DB’s turtle?

  22. b4l Says:

I really want to see Grayson back on the team. He was the best deep threat the Bucs had since Miller went off in 2020.

  23. Pelsbuc61 Says:

The Tampa Bay Potato Chips. Wow, Jones, Hicks, Gage, Rudolph are all terrrible signings. At least you know Suh will line up and play. I have no confidence any of these guys will be available late in the season.

  24. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ JP

So…..Mr Rudolph is probably the BIGGEST disappointment of all the TEs…..you ever notice he’s not in there alot on running plays or options and that’s because his blocking is subpar or nonexistent at best.

….hell…..he still hasn’t shown he’s a dependable receiving option either; he’s just another bench riding TE disappointment which seems to be riding high this season in the receiving department.

  25. unbelievable Says:

    LOL @ DR

Don’t hold your breath on creativity from Leftwich.

  26. unbelievable Says:

@Anthem – Gage has been injured since training camp, and has not returned to 100%.

I think that’s why we haven’t seen him running deep routes. I’m honestly surprised how much he has been playing through injuries.

  27. Carl L Says:

Anyone can tell Julio Jones is a warrior. Just look at his hair-do.

  28. Marine Buc Says:

Miller, Otton, Fournette, Godwin and Brady all performed well… Our offensive line performed OK but not great…

    Our defense is solid.

    Go Bucs!

  29. BucsFan81 Says:

It would be nice to actually sign players that are not injury prone.

  30. Infomeplease Says:

    NEXT MAN UP!!! LFG!!!

  31. LakelandSteve Says:

Worried about the cornerbacks now. Hope we are not down to our practice squad guys for Sundays game. Pittsburgh is going to be one pissed off team when we play. The Bucs better bring their “A” game on offense, defense and special teams for all four quarters if they want to beat the Steelers.

  32. steele Says:

Most of the secondary out. Gage, out and a disappointment anyway. Both O and D full of issues. The * for the next two games is getting bigger.

  33. Esteban85 Says:

BucsAnthem: you forget to take a nap or something? What again is wrong with Cade Otton? All of our db’s except for CD and SMB are suspect? How about Logan Ryan? Antoine Winfield? Jamel Dean? Furthermore you say our defense is weak because BA left? You crazy man

  34. DrunkinYbor Says:

BucsAnthem sure as he’ll shouldn’t be your whiny baby ass. * OH the sky is falling* OH NO!! We don’t have All Pros at every position!!** Whaaaa Whaaaa Whaaa…

  35. Kody Says:

Didn’t Bowles say Julio could’ve played against the Packers?? Then he didn’t play against KC, didn’t play against Atlanta, and now will probably be out against the Steelers??

What the hell is going on??

I’m so disappointed in Julio. Had huge hopes for him. And turns out he’s another bust.

We get burned every time by these aging players. It’s like word has gone out in the NFL: If you’re washed up, go to Tampa. They’ll pay you millions to just sit on the bench.

  36. C2 asante Says:

I wonder how you critics would fare if we could observe and comment on the level of excellence you bring to your jobs and how well you perform when injured or sick? I love coming to this site for the information and insight shared about my team. But I detest seeing a bunch of grown men act like cry babies and critique professionals as if they are in anyway qualified to do so. When you have reached the highest levels in sports maybe you will have some credibility.

  37. Buccobill99 Says:

    #8,#6 wasted roster spots

  38. DG060 Says:

Two things are bugging the living hell out of me….
1: Our Bucs are as brittle as a twig in winter. Ridiculous and super frustrating.
2: Luke Gedeke is going to get our QB killed. Watch the tape of the infamous sack on TB12 again from Sunday. This idiot just stands there and watches as the ATL guy just runs right by him on a beeline to TB12. The play is so bad on his part it’s pitiful. If that’s the best we can get out of him then bench the guy.
Right now he sucks and sucks bad. Either figure it out Luke or get lost.

  39. JVZ Says:

C2 Asante, this is why I read these – they are so entertaining, silly, a complete lack of wisdom, and especially ignorant at times.

I don’t need to imagine anything either considering what most believe politically because it follows suit with their voting intelligences most of the time. It alk fits!

  40. Dreambig Says:

I did notice a few series while we were going 3 and out, we are lining up Miller and Darby while ATL is not broken and very much playing to win. Talk about taking your foot off the gas. I can see having either Evan or Godwin resting but both at the same time? I thought Godwin must have been hurt. It is nonsense like that that makes you question Leftwitch and Bowles decision making.

  41. Kody Says:

We have no luck with signing (aging) veteran players: Sherman, Le’Veon Bell, Julio, Gage, Hicks. All busts, walking wounded or under-performers. NO luck. It’s almost a joke at this point.

Hope Licht has learned a lesson.
