NFC Weakness Should Soothe Bucs Fans

October 3rd, 2022

Stay positive like Julio Jones.

Tom Brady looks great, the defense will bounce back and the rest of the NFC is a mess.

So Bucs fans should breathe easy this morning after getting pounded by the Chiefs at The Licht House last night. That was the message from Brady friend and former Chiefs, Patriots and Jets playcaller Charlie Weis.

Cranky Weis is on top of everything NFL for SiriusXM NFL Radio, and he was barking early this morning about how the Eagles are the only impressive team in the NFC after the Packers nearly lost to the Patriots’ third-string quarterback yesterday. The context was Weis being asked whether it’s time to worry about the Buccaneers after they’ve lost two consecutive home games.

Weis is correct. The Saints (1-3) are a sad team now dealing with a quarterback controversy, and the Rams are hardly impressive. And Joe certainly doesn’t take the Cowboys and Giants seriously (both 3-1).

The Vikings are a nice team but are not one that should strike fear into any Bucs fans.

At 2-2 with a much softer schedule upcoming, the Bucs are poised to take command of the NFC South and recapture their rhythm on offense. Heck, they might have accomplished the latter last night.

Keep calm out there. The Bucs have six games before their bye week and they’ve got a great shot at winning five. If they win just four out of six, well, then a little anxiety may be in order.

  1. Jeff Says:

Carolina is going to be a problem for the Bucs. The Bucs pass rush is not good. It’s killing them.

  2. Coburn Says:

Pass rush looked fine early, but Mahommes got away with a lot of circus play early and extended drives. Too many 3rd and manageable from getting gutted in run game and too long on the field

  3. Bucamania Says:

Bucs D couldn’t get off the field on 3rd down. 11 of 13 conversions at one point which is ridiculous.

  4. Francisco Guzman Says:

Rams have a defense. They’re also very physical. They have had the bucs number.

  5. Francisco Guzman Says:

Bucs should be embarrassed to lose to straight home games. I am just not a fan of this coaching staff. It’s a huge weakness.

  6. FIRE Leftwich Says:

Problem is, everyone brings their A-game when they face the Bucs and go up against. We’re lucky if we bring our C- game no matter who we play.

Appreciate the hopium, Joe. But the reality is that we look like total dog sh*t and it will soon catch up to us.

  7. Jack Sparrow Says:

I think the BUcs will be 8-2 before the bye week. They will be playing against non-Mahomes and Non-Josh Allen QB’s so, we should be fine and enough for them to get back their confidence.

  8. (Please Try Another Handle) Says:

Who says the Dirty Birds don’t come to town and put a can of whoop ass on the Bucs. Very likely! The Bucs just aren’t good. They’re a 9 win team that will lose in the first round. They can’t run the ball, weak ass O-line, banged up old receivers already and a defense that can’t stop the run. Brady got dinged up last night. No way he makes it through the year. #9 is a bust and #90 hasn’t shown up at all.

  9. Buc1987 Says:

It’s a long season boys and girls.

    Go Bucs!

  10. SKBucsFan Says:

The only upcoming game that could go either way in my opinion is the Rams game. But if the Bucs can’t get pumped to beat the Rams after what happened last year in the playoffs then it’s time to panic. That date should have been circled the moment the schedule was released.
I’ll take 8-2 at the break

  11. Nicky666 Says:

I remember when everyone was saying they’d be content with a 2-2 record after 4 games – I get we have played like $hit the last 2 games but this season is so young I have a feeling the wins are going to start piling up – the next 3 quarterbacks we are gonna face are mariota/ Pickett/ and mayfield – none of those 3 are game changers and the teams they play for aren’t very good – This team will get to 5-2 and get themselves some breathing room – i will never forget how the chiefs smoked us back in 2020 and how it felt like the sky was falling – then we woke tf up and won the super bowl- I have a feeling this teams best football is ahead of us – GO BUCS!

  12. zzbucs Says:

    @Francisco Guzman.

Is their any chance you just stop complaining all the time??

didn’t even occur to you, that 2/2, with tons of injuries, specially on wr position is not that bad?

Jesus H Christ, sick of this people bitch**ng all the time, about everything!!!

  13. Redeemer Says:

The league always does this. The first few weeks, they want the best teams playing each other. For good teams, the schedule usually softens. Until the bucs beat a good team, it’s fools gold. God forbid if they lose one of these next three. They should be 5-2 after that stretch. 4-3 would be disastrous.

  14. Ed Says:

Pretty much what has been said…
For us at home we find so much joy watching the Bucs, the last 4 weeks though have been tough to watch, all the injuries just take the soul out, one year fine, now onto second year, hard to develop rhythm and trust
I rather have them fail miserably now and figure it out
I hope the players find motivation somehow and the leaders lead
    11-5
The Chiefs played their SB last night, for the Bucs it can only go up from here if they want it

    You can do this Bucs!

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I wouldn’t take other teams lightly….any one of them can beat us when we don’t play well…

We better bring our A game vs Falcons…..hungry for a home win…….suck it up

  16. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Watching the Falcons play this season (scouting the Bucs’ competition) they are NOT weak. They have a very effective offense, and they can move the ball on anyone.

If the Bucs don’t take this game as seriously as the Packers and Chiefs, their record is about to become 2-3.

  17. CrackWise Says:

Yeah Mahommie got a lot of help from the officials watching him play vs watch the OL mug JTS and Shaq.

JTS was putting some nice moves on both the guards and tackles all game. Shaq was also. HOWEVER, the middle of our line shat themselves. Vita was not getting any push up the middle whatsoever.

That being said, it was a team loss all the way around. Which mean KC deserves a lot of credit, but the Bucs just came in unprepared and (tired?) They looked tired from the get-go.

Really strange vibe to the game for sure. Wonder why that was?

  18. BucsFanSince76 Says:

The offense may have just recaptured their rhythm-Really Joe? 3 yards rushing is pathetic and when teams are way ahead on you-they do not play the same schemes defensively-they give you the soft underneath stuff. Do you not see that TB12 has accomplished his lowest yards per completion number of his career? There has to be a huge improvement in ALL phases of the game against Atlanta or Bucs are in serious jeopardy of not advancing to the playoffs.

  19. Pewter Power Says:

“Nearly” lost to the patriots? Packers beat us and saints and rams are always standing in our way. Rams aren’t impressive but until we beat them….after that lost and “cheap” shot by evans the saints will be just as motivated as the chiefs to get back at us. I’ll say this the eagles have not played a top team yet though

  20. unbelievable Says:

We are looking at the #4 seed at best, if things keep trending this way.

Sorry, but that’s not good enough.

  21. SB~LV Says:

No it doesn’t soothe a damn thing unless you are into One and Done!

  22. Anon Says:

The falcons suck you clown, they beat Geno Smith and Jacobi Brisett barely, like get outta here thinking they’re good.

Also Marcus Mariota is their QB, who leads the league in turnovers. Nuff said.

  23. Francisco Guzman Says:

Unbelievable i see them as a fourth seed as well unless they win about 8 straight here. This team is too inconsistent.

  24. Anon Says:

this comment section is always the biggest morons yelling at each other, it’s embarrassing. And you act like the 4th seed is bad when the year we won the SB we were the 5th seed clown ass.

  25. Beeej Says:

You can lose a few linemen, or you can lose a few receivers, but not both at the same time.

  26. Ash Says:

Hope the defense learned to play until the whistle at all times but especially when you play someone like mahomes some of those third down convertions were mind blowing and wouldn’t have been completed if they didn’t give up on the coverage.

  27. pewter941 Says:

Cordelle Patterson just went on IR

  28. unbelievable Says:

Anon – the year we won as a 5th seed we also had Gronk, AB, a healthy Godwin, and one of the best o-lines in the entire league.

You see any of that this year?

    Talk about a clown…

  29. SPARKY Says:

They did look tired except for the guys who didn’t play last week. Having to travel down to Miami and back during the middle of the week on days they could of used some rest didn’t help. And to take the wife, kids, and pets along couldn’t of been real relaxing. No excuses, but 2-2 after all the injuries and tough schedule ain’t that bad.

  30. SPARKY Says:

Three of the teams we played are 3-1 and the other team has given us fits for years. I have no doubt if we had Evans against the Packers we are 3-1.

  31. rsjcheapseats Says:

    Amen Anon.

  32. garbs65 Says:

It’s never good when your best strategy is hoping other teams play poorly.

  33. ChiBuc Says:

Just because your wife is ugly, it don’t make mine MS. America

  34. Goatfarmer Says:

When we look to be among the weakest…..not soothing.

  35. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

That was an ugly game last night…I came very close to not even watching it all…and I’ve only stopped watching one other time since the team was formed.

Needing a soft schedule for a couple games is okay…gives time to recover…but needing them because we are playing poorly? That’s unsettling. So glad I didn’t have to cancel plans for last night.

  36. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

On a side note…I thought for sure Tom got injured last night.

  37. HC Grover Says:

Buc weakness may sooth some Staink, Falcon, and Panther, fans.

  38. captivajim Says:

Jones has not done much in 4 games -maybe he should be given an early retirement package.

  39. Anon Says:

Bums in the comments section really don’t remember what this team was before Brady I swear it’s hilarious.

Doom and gloom for 2-2 when we would have killed for that start years ago especially with that gauntlet of opponents.

  40. Lorena Says:

Tom did not get injured, fake news. Move the hell on already. If he got injured it must not be serious considering he threw the ball phenomenally well after the fumble.

  41. BucU Says:

    I keep hearing it’s a long season.
The way things are going it’s gonna be a real long season. This was a disaster.
3 home games in a row, including the Rams playoff game that we’ve been embarrassed at home.
    Hey Bowles that’s unacceptable!!
You talked about how slow the team has started games after last week’s debacle and that you’d be addressing that. And how did that work out?
The slowest start yet! Either fix it or get lost.

  42. rsjcheapseats Says:

    Anon
Some of these a fair weather Pats fans.

  43. Richard Dickson Says:

I don’t think we can discount the effect of having their routine upended with the relocation to Miami either. Road trip there, road trip back, plus stressing over the storm. Yeah, sure, they’re professionals, they should deal, but that couldn’t have been easy juggling all that.

  44. FLBoyInDallas Says:

10-7 record and the #4 seed, here we come.

Making it to the big dance is good, but it’s not going to be like most fans hoped for this year with dominating play and a high win total.

  45. JimbobBucfan Says:

Patrick Mahomes is a unique QB as far I am concerned. I have never seen anyone that much like him in the NFL Not even the Fran Tarkenton of old. He can stand in the pocket and let loose and is the ultra backyard scrambler from the neighborhood. We used to call it sandlot football where I grew up.

    Go Bucs!

  46. JimbobBucfan Says:

13 and 4 or even 11 and 5 will be acceptable season outcomes for me. Runnning the table is the only way to the top in the playoffs no matter what else happens before then.

They play the games one at a time and we can enjoy them or be disappointed only one at a time also.

    Go Bucs!

  47. View from 132 Says:

Keep calm? I’m calm. I just saw a team that got totally outcoached and outplayed at home in prime time. Beating bad teams matters in the standings, but what’s the point if the team can’t hold up to a playoff opponent? Beat good teams or be a first round exit and forgotten.

Right now, they look like Dan Mariano’s final year with the Dolphins. That ended I think 62-7 vs Jacksonville.

  48. Boltsfan17 Says:

Right, because the division stinks this bunch of pretenders should still win it? Not sure that’s a ringing endorsement.

  49. Francisco Guzman Says:

Lol people here talking about fairweather fans. Winning two and losing two back to back games at home including one that wasn’t even close is disgraceful. It feels like the same old song. Struggle against big time QBs .

  50. T REX Says:

The team doesn’t look very good tbh

Vea is a joke. The o line can’t run block

    Staff is outmatched mon-sat

  51. Redeemer Says:

Seeding isn’t as important as health. Would you rather be the #1 and play with a mash unit? Home field didn’t help much vs.the Rams.

  52. CalBucsFan Says:

Good analysis Joe, but when I clicked on the 2022 SCHEDULE tab at the top of your website to see whom the next 6 games are against, it still shows 2021’s last game of the year. Would be cool if it had an update when you have a chance.

    Go Bucs!

  53. DoooshLaRue Says:

Remember the Jets game last year?

  54. Richard Dickson Says:

It feels like everyone is mediocre this year. There are four divisions where every team is 2-2 or worse. Outside of Buffalo and KC, the 3-1 teams all have issues or have looked shaky at times. And I still the Eagles have feasted on an easy early-season schedule and are due for that other foot to drop. So yeah, it does feel like a weaker year.
