Highlights Of Press Conferences

October 6th, 2022

See you Sunday, Tom Brady said.

So Joe was out at One Buc Palace today and here are a few quick highlights from appearances by Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, Tom Brady and co-defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers.

Byron Leftwich

Leftwich acknowledged that the running game isn’t what the team wants it to be. However, he cautioned against making sweeping perceptions.

Defenses the Bucs have faced through four games have been tough against the run, Leftwich said. As a result, running isn’t as easy as simply handing the ball off to Playoff Lenny and watching him run.

Tom Brady

When asked about how his throwing shoulder feels, the same shoulder that has a “Little” rotator cuff injury, Brady smiled and deadpanned, “Fine. I feel great. Thanks for asking. I’ll be there Sunday.”

When asked about the NFL parity with so many teams at 2-2, Brady didn’t see it that way. He seemed to believe 2-2 is not parity, but poor football.

“I think there is a lot of bad football from what I watch,” Brady said.

Kacy Rodgers

Rodgers expects the Dixie Chicks to try to bludgeon the Bucs with their ground game. He added that Atlanta is “hard-headed” about running the ball.

Rodgers also noted that Dixie Chicks’ runaround quarterback Marcus Mariota looks quicker.

Speaking on his defense, looking back to the Kansas City loss last Sunday night, Rodgers said he did rookie defensive lineman Logan Hall “an injustice” by not playing him more. So Joe took that to mean that it’s a safe bet that Hall logs more snaps this week.

Rodgers also noted that with defensive tackle Akiem Hicks being sideline is not negatively impacting fellow tackle Vita Vea who appeared to get pushed around by the Chiefs last weekend.

  3. A Bucs Fan Says:

What is wrong with Vita Vea? Is he playing through injury again? He’s been playing well below his normal self.

    OBJ

  5. TAMPA BAY DEMONā„¢ Says:

    I watched the presser.

Tom was engaging,,, answered the questions,,, even smiled several times.
Just seems like a man kind of running on fumes right now.

This team is going to rally around one another and get firing on all cylinders. The Falcons are going to catch some of that HELL this week.

  6. Defense Rules Says:

Bucs need to either fix the DLine quickly or expect more 41-31 games.

  7. Goatfarmer Says:

    Is Todd still on vacation?

  8. Panhandle Buc Says:

Money and time spent watching poor football…do something about it Tommy!

  9. TAMPA BAY DEMONā„¢ Says:

^^ Todd Bowles was apparently back at practice today, following his personal day.

Someone tried to stick in a Gisele question without mentioning Gisele, and Tom saw right through it and gave his patented canned response about ā€œchallenges.ā€

  13. David Says:

    Absolutely!!
I kept looking for Hall because the last couple of games he seems to be getting better and better.

As for Bradyā€¦ This divorce distraction has me really worried. On a lighter note, the best thing Iā€™ve seen all day is from the
    Babylon Bee:
ā€œAfter Divorce Settlement, Gisele Expected To Own At Least 3 Times As Many Super Bowl Rings As Aaron Rodgersā€

    LMAO šŸ˜‚ šŸ˜‚

  14. Mike Says:

The way Vea is playing makes me think about Lattimer in the movie The Program. When he goes off the juice, he’s just a mortal man. Vea needs to get back on whatever he was on and get back to dominating!

Yes, that was actually Ira! — I thought Ira very respectably asked the question, and left names out of it (to your point).

Translation: “Even average run defenses are now ‘tough’ when we play them, because even the lazy couch potatoes at home can see how predictable my play calling is, and how un-creative my run scheme is. But please don’t make generalizations.”

  17. unbelievable Says:

Rodgers is correct, Vea was sucking all on his own lol.

  18. The Beer Whisperer Says:

    Who quit today?
Since everyone wants to come to Tampa.

A .500 start for the first 44 years of the franchise would be heralded as a great start

Nowadays we are ā€œstrugglingā€ after playing 3 playoff teams and an arch rival to start the scheduling

  22. Kentucky Buc Says:

Yeah Irma tried to back door Brady again with his question. Didnā€™t work last time he tried it either. Wayyyyy too smart to fall for that.

  23. Bucsfan13 Says:

@Kentucky. Tomā€™s been around too long. He knows the game. He dealt with the Boston media for 20 years, and he learned how to work the media from Belichick.

  24. Listnfrmafar Says:

There is one team 4-0 and they played lousy teams. In 2020 the Bucs were 7-5 before turning it around. Not a fan of the BL offense, no Gronk & no AB, Jensen & Cappa doesn’t make it any easier.

  25. Wild Bill Says:

Hey given a tough schedule, turnover on the defensive line, and injuries to key receivers I called a possible 2-2 record and maybe a 3-1 with some luck. But given the injuries and missing Gronk, I’m not surprised at 2-2. Disappointed yes, but not giving up on the Bucs! 5-2 is a good possibility. And hopefully most of the walking wounded will be back. The offense should be OK and the new offensive linemen will improve. My biggest concern is the defensive line. Tryon still looks like a dud. Nobody has filled in for Suh! Vea needs help in the middle! And the top pass catchers need to all get healthy. After the last game I felt down too, but I will still be pulling for the Bucs. Suck it up buckaroos. It ain’t over yet!

  26. captivajim Says:

anyone know why they haven’t put Jensen on IR for 4 wks ??

  27. Izod Says:

I’m still hopeful for the playoffs, however, this team is just not talented enough to beat the top tier teams and make it to a Superbowl.

  28. Rod Munch Says:

I put $100 on the Bucs winning this big, by 14+. I feel like it’s going to be a close game, a one score game, going into the 4th quarter, then the Bucs will open it up and pour it on, maybe a 42-17 type of game. That’s what I’m hoping for.

  29. Eckwood Says:

Bucs are def a lil soft without Bruce , Ryan J and Suh !! Very talented but def a lil soft . Logan Hall is twice the tuff engaged player , Clean Jersey JTS is and getting Iā€™m going to make a clean play or whiff D Premadonna White out of there on 3 rd down will serve notice !! ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦. Letā€™s get Vaughn 10 to 15 Carrie Underwoodā€™s and use Fournette more on third down and the run game will improve . Fournette has the Doug Martin Disease ,, missing Holes, Dancing , Choppy Short Strpping and no ability to get Skinny and take or get the 3 yards . I know Fournette can catch, block and doest fumble but ya gotta coach these other guys up !!

  30. BigMacAttack Says:

2-2 isnā€™t a problem. 7-7 is a problem. The general consensus when the schedule was released was the Bucs will likely be 2-2. Take away Jensen and add up all of the other injuries and 2-2 isnā€™t a bad start. This week is a telltale for the Bucs. If they donā€™t beat the Falcons at home pretty handedly, this could be a long season. If they lose to the Falcons, it will be even longer, speculation will go wild and everyone will be put under a microscope. And Todd Bowles will be questioned at every turn. This is a must win game and the team needs to know that. I hope they get the memo.
