Todd Bowles has a problem. It feels like a virus has spread throughout his Buccaneers.
Joe is calling it complacency.
A guy Joe knows was up close and personal seated behind the Bucs’ bench today and sent Joe details of Tom Brady’s freakout on the offensive line immediately following the opening series. Brady was barking, “You Gotta Wake Up!!”
Unfortunately, the Bucs defense couldn’t hear Brady, as they were on the field allowing an 11-play touchdown drive.
Nothing much improved from there, though Brady’s later freakout on the offensive line was caught on TV and was more impressive.
Minus the guys who kick the football, every component of the Bucs played subpar football today in what may have been the biggest upset of the 2022 NFL season.
Devin White knocked out Steelers starting QB Kenny Pickett and it still didn’t matter in the end. Mitch Trubisky had little trouble with the Bucs defense.
The coverage units were miserable today, as was the Bucs’ offensive line and the defense gave up too many big plays against a truly second-rate Steelers offense.
And don’t get Joe started on the Steelers’ defense, which had practice squad guys in its heavily-depleted secondary.
Hey, at least the kicking is great!
Tom Brady wasn’t good, finishing 25-of-40 for 243 yards and without a touchdown. Russell Gage dropped one in his hands in the end zone.
The Bucs’ running game? It had a nice first quarter and then went into the toilet. Even Brady’s quarterback sneak failed.
Pittsburgh going 7-of-15 on third down is an embarrassment of epic proportions.
Our beloved Bucs are 3-3, tied with the Falcons atop the NFC South.

It’s not just one thing; it’s everything. Coaches aren’t coaching very well, players aren’t executing. Even Tom Brady 2022 looks a lot less ‘with it’ than he was in 2020 & 2021. Injuries I’m sure are having an effect, but that’s just one of many factors. This team is 8-8 at best. Middle of the pack.

Things are fixable, but there is a lot to fix.
Steelers brought a lot of pressure, and they overwhelmed our inexperienced line and rattled Brady early.
We had 4 drives of 10+ plays today. That’s pretty good. But only one of those drives resulted in a touchdown.
The offense has more problems than the defense, but the defense comes up small when needed. The offense has a bunch of issues to fix, including the play calling, but hopefully some of that got started on being fixed today.
Credit to Pittsburgh. They were embarrassed last week and played hard today. Still, this should have been a solid win for us.

Plays design doesn’t matter when you can’t execute basics like a 3rd & 1 conversion. If a team can’t execute a dive with any consistency, then what makes you think they’d be able to have success anything more nuanced than that? Wow

Before we all find better things to do on Sunday, let me make a few points….
1. It appears that Brady is dealing with a world full of problems in his personal life, and they have spilled into his game. He still has skills, but his heart doesn’t seem to be in it as it was.
2. Todd Bowles and his coaching staff have the tools to be competitive but can’t get the proverbial train running in the same direction at the same time. He doesn’t appear to be HC material.
3. Even if this team somehow finds its way into the playoffs, it will be at best a long shot team. And maybe we should be a seller before the trade deadline.

He needs to change things to play to our current roster’s strengths, and to scheme guys open, but he doesn’t know how…

I want to say Gongratulations to the players and the coaches. You must do a lot to loose to these Steelers (with so many good players out) and oh boy with great effort they were able to get that loss. What an effort.
From not convert around 5 plays that you need a yard (2nd 1, 3rd and 1)
To give up quite a few 3rd and 10+ with 2 in the final drive to Trubisky
To not get a timeout when you see Vita Vea of all people to try and run off the field when Tomlin in a similar situation called a timeout to prevent 12 on defense.
Unbelievable. You loose to these Steelers think about it.
Dont want to hear again about ugly wins. This team is in the 6th game and the offense looks like they are in the 2nd training camp practice.

Well deserved loss unfortunately. Pretty much one dimensional offense between Brady and Fuornette . When he went elsewhere the passes were not that great. terrible scheme for protection. backs rarely stayed in for protection . Evans had few targets. Godwin had some, but many were not well thrown. In spite of the
poor protection ,Brady did not have a game where his leadership was evident.

This is on Leftwich. You are facing a team with a decimated secondary, any coach with half a brain knows you press your advantage, go hurry up so the inexperienced defenders don’t know where to line up. Instead BL SLOWS THE GAME DOWN by running on almost every first down. He played right into Pittsbrgh’s hand.The only time we moved the ball was when Brady got in the hurry up and called the plays. Are we here to win games or feed a coach’s ego?

Why is Tom Brady taking camp off…jetting off to weddings and then blaming everyone else for poor play ?? While the season is clearly not over. The decline in our bucs should be a surprise to literally no one. Bowles record before the Bucs as a head coach was a 38% win rate. I hire people frequently, the interview is pretty much over when you find out that the candidate had previous experience at the job level you are offering, and they failed miserably. Thats a huge red flag that indicates you should probably keep looking. Its not rocket science. It was a stupid hire!

The playcalling totally sucks! In the last 2 seasons we at least had BA to overrule Leftwich’s lousy play calling but Bowles won’t do it. Every 1st down today was a run, 2nd down was a short pass, setting up a 3rd and short. No passes down the field with a Steeler secondary missing it’s top 3 corners & top safety. Today’s playcalling should have been heavy with down field passes but not with Leftwich calling the plays.
The season will be over unless they go back to the “No Risk it, No Biscuit” Arians offense. We have Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Spent 30 million on Russell Gage & brought in Julio Jones & we run on 1st down, short pass on 2nd down & a run or another short pass on 3rd down. It’s a totally predictable offense right now & it’s going to be a dog fight even to win the division if this doesn’t change & change soon.

We’re six games into the season. At this point there are no more excuses. The offensive line need player changes now. Sit Hansey and Godekkee they are not performing. Defense has no leadership or fire. Good defenses don’t let and struggling teams beat them. Play calling sucks. Brady should’ve stayed his ass here in Tampa to practice(screw another team owner’s wedding wtf you going for? The offensive line is a problem and Leftwich’s play calling is frustratingly terrible.
The new interior lineman are getting their rear ends handed to them. They are getting no push up front and to make it worse – Leftwich kept dialing up plays on key 3rd downs they kept getting beat on. Here’s a clue – if you’re losing the battle in the trenches – don’t send in your jumbo and run off tackle to try to get a 3rd and 1.
Then with the game on the line on successive 3rd and longs the defense allowed conversions.
Overall pretty inexcusable.
Bucs are in trouble and not even Tom Brady can save them. Bowles and Leftwich are terrible coaches. There is too much talent on this team for them to play this badly. They are not playing to their strengths – especially on offense. Who is drawing up offensive the game plan? Brady’s head is clearly somewhere else, too. This was an embarrassing loss.
Brady is going to retire after this year and Bowles will once again craft personnel based on who plays special teams. This is a bad bad bad bad coaching staff without BA. Bucs are going to give Bowles 3 years minimum and by the time they fire Bowles this team will be so bad it will take YEARS to rebuild.

Watch an entire season destroyed in one game. When your offensive line gets constantly punched in the mouth and doesn’t have enough pride to put up a fight. Your defense gives up 3 third and 15’s in the game two on the final drive to completely suck the life out of your season. The quarterback who put you out of your misery was the backup to a rookie making his second start. Is there not a man on this team with any pride whatsoever? This team has no fire and like it or not it’s all on the head coach.

The Bucs have shown all season that they have taken on the persona of head coach Todd Bowles. They start every game off in a slow manner and that is on Todd. He isn’t getting the effort or execution of whatever his pathetic game plan is.
When your opponent is playing with a backup secondary you have to challenge them. This should have been a game where the offensive strategy would pressure the inexperienced secondary.
Instead of stretching the field they shortened up passing plays. They telegraph short yardage and keep using Fournette to try and get those short yards behind Haines and Goedke who miss assignments.
Steelers are a rebuild and it takes a terrible head coach to not know how to get the right plays and 3rd and one in red zone.
Bucs made a huge mistakes not replacing Arians with a coach that can motivate a veteran team. Way too nonchalant on the field.

My observations:
• On Pittsburgh’s 1st quarter touchdown, either Keanu Neal or Devin White totally blew their coverage. Maybe both of them. Horribly.
• Playcalling was actually more diverse. Still too many runs up the middle, but the mix of plays was better. Execution was worse. A lot worse.
• Brady was off. Through 2 quarters he was completing 50% of passes. They weren’t all covered. There were many weird throws. I hope the Lannisters aren’t having more weddings this year.
• The offense got absolutely embarrassed by a scrubs-only secondary. I said that the play mix was better, but there is still no imagination to scheme receivers open. Running back routes and screens looked nice. Nothing out of the ordinary did I see for our receivers.
• Neal22 was strong against the run.
• Did we fire Armstrong yet? Our suckarse punt coverage is Baaa-ack. No lane discipline. Just a mob running downfield like a pack of looters trying to steal a football. Jamel Dean saved 4 points with his legs, and would have been the hero of the day if we had won. Punt coverage will get burned a couple times a year, but ours is getting burned a couple times a game, and the special (as in little bus) teams coordinator is still drinking bourbon with Arians. Why?
• In the off chance that Leftfoot actually has any special plays that he’s designed to use in a must-have situation, the end of the first half would have been a nice time to use one of them. End of half is just like end of game. An opportunity with the football with time running out. But no–just same old boring plays run out of the same boring formations that we got stuffed on the whole first half.
• That 3rd quarter “illegal man downfield” penalty that kept us from scoring a touchdown was obviously on Brady. He was the only man on the field who thought he called a pass play. Wirfs did nothing wrong. He was run blocking like every single other man in the offense besides the hungover party boy bootlegging all by himself looking stupid.
• Other than the last Trubisky drive, our defense looked awesome. Why does Bowles’ defense fold at the end of games when they have the other team backed up in 3rd and long? It was like watching the Bowles Bowl all over again.
• It’ll be a shame to ever send Dee Delaney back to the practice squad. He played his arse off with SMB out.
• I give props to Bowles for one thing today–that overload bunch blitz in the 4th quarter was pretty sweet. Too bad the rest of the 4th quarter was a replay of the Rams spanking us.
• Steelers had a total of 136 yards after the 3rd quarter. They were winning.
• If it was a concussion that Brate got, he needs to retire. Sad to see it happen, but stacking concussions back-to-back is not good.
• Another 3-yard rushing average day. WTH?
• Otten had a big boy catch over the middle when Brady finally threw one that he could reach (barely).
• We converted 4 of 14 on third down.
Is it just me, or did Brady look like Trubisky today? Maybe Bowles will give him Monday off so he can go back to Bawston and finish his party with Tyrion Lannister and his painted lady.

I knew we would lose this one thanks to St. Fossil. I listened on radio and had the boob tube on, volume off. The first Bucs drive was a big hint. On two of the plays, 2nd and 3rd down, Cam Brate was WIDE OPEN down the middle. Did Fossil see it? Nope. I knew then my hunch was right. This guy really needs to retire. What’s it gonna take? Teams always kicking field goals don’t make the playoffs. Offensively Bucs have less talent than the past 2 years. Hainsey and Godecke are downgrades from Marpet and Jensen.Antonio Brown was the Buc’s most dangerous receiver and he’s gone. Gronk at 6’7″ was a great red Zone target, had a 10 year chemistry with Brady, was a nice safety valve receiver, and a good run blocker and pass blocker. Gone.
