“We Could Have Scored”

September 25th, 2022

High standards.

So rookie defensive lineman Logan Hall recorded his first NFL sack today. He’d very likely trade that if he had the chance.

Joe spoke with Hall after the loss to the Packers and mentioned to Hall (after asking about his first NFL sack) how the defense held the great drama queen quarterback Aaron Rodgers off the scoreboard in the second half. Hall looked at Joe right in the eye and said, “We could have scored.”

That’s the high standard Bucs coach Todd Bowles has instilled in this group. When the offense isn’t getting the job done, then it is the job of the defense to get the job done.

If the offense isn’t scoring, then the defense should.

“Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough,” Hall said of blanking Rodgers and the Packers in the final 30 minutes. “We could have scored. We could have done more.”

Hall wasn’t the only defender to tell Joe this. So too did defensive tackle Rakeem Nuñez-Roches.

When Joe mentioned to “Nacho” how the defense balled out (again), “Nacho” let out a loud sigh as if to say that it wasn’t enough. When Joe said to “Nacho” what more could the defense have done than pitch a shutout in the second half and hold the Packers to 14 points total, Nacho replied simply:

“Score.”

This defense is starting to be like the old glory days’ defense of the Bucs, “Nacho” appreciated the comment. Then Joe mentioned how Sapp used to say, “Just give us 17 points.”

Nacho’s eyes bulged out as he looked and Joe and said, “That’s it!”

The Bucs defense tonight only needed 15, but the offense couldn’t even do that.

Ouch. The defense sounds defeated when they believe they need to score to win. Resentment starts when one side believes the other isn’t carrying their weight.

Next week we have Evans, Jones and possibly Godwin returning. This team is going to be tough to beat down the stretch.

Let’s stop with the “defense was great” line. It was soft for a good portion of the game. First half on offense and defense was atrocious. Never should have let the game get out of control like that.

We missed D Smith today……hopefully, he’ll be back next week with Evans, Godwin, Julio & Cade…..

Keep your heads up when bucs get healthy this team is going to be dangerous.

And if my grandmother had wheels, she’d be a wagon. The Packers shot themselves in the foot also. One play, and the game is out of reach. Gutsy performance, but not enough.

I was having flashbacks of the Trent Dilfer days.

Out of control? 14 points. More of the what If kind of BS. IT did not happen. And it was thanks to the defense we even got a chance to get the second FG. Of the final drive would have not mattered anyway. This is the kind of game that reminds you. The Game is Not over until It is Over. It became that close at the end.

I remember when we used to complain about Bowles not making any affective half time adjustments to his defense. So far this year, that is not a complaint.

The offense has to score to win.

  11. BigMacAttack Says:

They’ll be fine. No one like losing. This defense has pride and they’re really good. Tomorrow they’ll realize they lost to one of the best teams in the NFC without most of their offensive players and it’s only one loss. You can’t win them all. Next week they’ll bounce back.

He’s right. Great defenses score. Tackling a guy down the field is just doing your job.

  13. Buczilla Says:

Our offense sucks and we deserved to lose. Hopefully, Brady pulls his head out of his butt when we get Mike back against the chiefs.

  14. Vance Says:

The Offense sucked. Can’t get around that. The Offense was very VERY predictable. It wasn’t hard for this average Joe to call out plays our offense was doing prior to the snap. Leftwich MUST be held accountable also.

As the Great Vince Lombardi said,
“It all comes down to blocking and Tackling”.
    We aint blocking.
4 new guys on the O-line. Three starting the first games if their life.
None playing horrible, but none playing as a UNIT.

    Gonna get Brady killed
A great O-line is way more important than great WRs.
If Brady doesnt have time to throw- it doesnt matter whos catching
