Tom Brady On “Dynamic” Mike Evans

September 13th, 2022

“You are the best, Mike!” (Photo courtesy of Buccaneers.com.)

Joe thought this was pretty cool.

Look, Joe knows Tom Brady isn’t the kind of guy to ever throw a player under the bus. And Brady often talks up his teammates. But Brady doesn’t often gush. He did Sunday night.

Mike Evans, to put it in an understated tone, is a weapon in the red zone. His fading, one-handed catch of a Brady pass last night was breathtaking. It was also the lone Bucs touchdown of the evening.

In a short statement, Brady just raved about Evans’ red zone play and how dependable he is.

“It’s awesome,” Brady said of Evans’ production in the red zone. “He’s as dependable as they come. He’s a great player. Tough; hard nosed. So tall, long and dynamic. I love being out there with him.”

Man, when the farm animal calls you “dynamic,” the praise cannot get any higher.

Joe doesn’t know why so few people consider Evans a top-five receiver. Joe suspects fantasy football has something to do with it, but even Evans’ fellow NFL players ranked him as the 10th-best receiver of 2022 for the NFL Network feature. Joe also guesses it is because folks like the shiny objects that burners are. Evans isn’t a burner, but he’s fast, right Jalen Ramsey?

But you look at these numbers below and tell Joe that Evans is not elite; Joe dares you.

In his last 33 regular season games, Evans has 28 touchdowns. That is borderline sick.

If Evans averages what he had Sunday night, 71 yards receiving, Evans will wind up with over 1,200 yards. Since being drafted by the Bucs in 2014, he has never had less than 1,000 yards each season.

Evans is a dawg.

  1. August 1976 Buc Says:

The day will come when Mike is standing with a yellow HOF jacket on behind the podium in Canton, thanking everyone that helped him along his journey to Canton.

    GO MIKE GO BUCS!!!!!

  2. PassingThru Says:

I sure hope that Evan’s gets his due someday with the HOF, he’s often overlooked on a national level.

At the moment, he’s the only elite receiving option deep in the red zone. That seems to be a problem, at least until Godwin returns to the field. Deep red zone and end zone is also where this team misses Gronk, a healthy Godwin, and AB.

  3. asdf Says:

Its crazy how many more TD’s Mike should have had over his career if he’d had a QB that could actually throw the fade route….Jameis did not have that kinda touch

  4. teacherman777 Says:

We drafted Mike Evans over Aaron Donald.

    And I’m happy we did!

I’d rather have Mike Evans than Aaron Donald any day of the week!

  5. MonkeyMan Says:

I hope he goes to the HOF when he hangs it up. Such a selfless dude.

  6. Bucsfanman Says:

His accomplishments are beyond reproach. Easily a HOF WR and best yet, a Buc.

  7. Buczilla Says:

No receiver has been better than Mike over the last five years. That Mike isn’t considered a top five receiver by the national dudes is more of a reflection on their bias/cluelessness than anything Mike has or hasn’t done. His numbers and accomplishments speak for themselves and he’ll be in the hof someday despite the (mostly) clowns that run the joint.

  8. Bucanero Says:

teacherman777 I wasn’t aware of that fact but agree 100%. ME13 is the best teammate you could ask for. I wish I had a mind like his’

  9. Biff Barker Says:

Evans can carry the Bucs on his back whenever called upon.

  10. Bojim Says:

Won’t take that dare. Loved Evans since year one.

  11. orlbucfan Says:

ME13, LVD and WGholston stuck it out during the losing years. They’re all class acts. If Evans doesn’t get into the HOF, something is seriously wrong.

  12. CrackWise Says:

We can all also thank ME13 for being the primary reason TB12 came to town. Brady loves him some ELITE WRs and he likes having the Randy Moss like safety blanket. See Rams come back game for proof, but if and when TB12 needs to get things rolling and in a hurry. He knows who to call.

We need start a campaign for a Mike slogan. I am thinking, “I want to be like Mike”. Or is that one retired. How about, “you got MEed”. That will probably tic of the Bud Lite fans.

Oh I know, how about Camal GOAT

  13. geno711 Says:

A receiver who is the best in the NFL at catching TD’s.
    Enough said.

  14. BucsNoles Says:

I would say he is already a first ballot guy.

  15. Browsing from DC Says:

Evans is a pro’s pro. He’s everything Joe and TB12 said and more. It’s a shame how many elite players like ME and CG fly under the radar because they’re either in a small market or on an under-performing team.

Thankfully that’s changing now for the Bucs. Not only winning but the addition of TB12 has put the Bucs in the national spotlight and getting more viewer’s eyes on national broadcasts. (Can somebody explain to me why the Cowgirls have 6 this season? 5 Prime-Time games plus Thanksgiving?)

Evans may only now be garnering more media and fan attention but players, GMs and coaches have always known who he is and respect the hell out of him.

  16. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

In College, he was Johnny Manziel’s secret. Mike Evans made Johnny Manziel, not the other way around.
Our running game forced the Cowboys to come out of their zone, and try to cover Mike Evans man to man.
    We all saw what happened.

  17. Ash Says:

It is his personality that gets him overlooked same with David definitely a future hall of famer though love Mike one of my favorite players of all time go bucs.

  18. DoooshLaRue Says:

You nailed it Joe, he’s not a flashy burner, just consistent as hell.

  19. George Says:

ME13 is a pros pro future HOF. Let’s hope his hammy stays healthy

Also a big Harry Potter that fan with a huge Tatoo

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Mike Evans….one of the very best Bucs ever…..

  21. J Ghotier Says:

Did you see on the Bucs vs Cowboys game broadcast they said that Mike Evans leads ALL receivers in go/fade route balls caught for TD’s since 2018. Pretty cool!

  22. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Chris was going to say EXACT same thing and he is also a huge reason that Jamies had some success in Tampa and had high TD numbers. ME13 is a HOFer on the football field and an ABSOLUTE HOFer for this community

  23. Bucsfan13 Says:

Mike has been elite for years. He was a high volume target, but he became a more efficient receiver with Brady. We have a red zone and end zone problem. Mike is the only reliable option. When teams take him away, who do we have to step up? CG was crafty and could get us a score. Julio isn’t exactly a TD machine. It always amazes me how Julio could have insane production, but he could never get in the EZ. Maybe Brady will elevate his play

  24. Goatfarmer Says:

Thank you Joes and also posters. ME13 is a great human, HOF players and one of the best Bucs of all time.

Those few that dis Evans can go pound sand.

  25. Infomeplease Says:

ME, comes to play every Sunday!!! His on field results say it all!! FHOF!!! LFG!!!

  26. Buddha Says:

The preseason over/under on Mike Evans touchdowns was 10.5. He had 14 last year. If he stays healthy that is a lock.

  27. Aaron Says:

Gonna take more than 1 touchdown to win games Shady brady lol

  28. Killian Says:

I’m hoping for a 90-100 catch, 1,500 yard, 15 TD season for Mike. With Godwin out a couple weeks this might be possible. Stop throwing deep balls to Perriman and focus on Evans, who can win jump balls.

  29. Tim Says:

Mike Evans- Red Zone weapon. Or as Tom Brady calls it, the Red Area.

  30. Sparky Says:

    @Aaron

Could have won this one with ZERO touchdowns.

  31. Crickett Baker Says:

TV used to have a session called “You got Mossed”. They need a new one called “You got Miked”. 🙂

  32. Goatfarmer Says:

I have a red area from watching Mike’s catch and Pancakin’ Lenny’s block.

  33. lambchop Says:

I want to make a Mike Evans appreciation post. The last preseason game where the starters played (if I’m not mistaken), the Bucs just got their first possession after a kickoff and one of the opposing players got hurt on the kickoff. The Bucs offense trotted onto the field for their first offensive possession, but there was a delay due to the injury.

Of all the players on the Bucs or the opposing team, Mike Effing Evans stopped to find out if the player was ok. He stopped and stood to assess how bad the guy was hurt.

Mike Evans will forever be the face of this franchise, past, present, or future. Don’t @ me. This dude is pure class. As much as we are soaking in Tom Brady, I hope people appreciate what we have while witnessing GREATNESS in Mike Evans. I literally have to buy a Mike Evans jersey, it’s not even a question.
