The Growing Julio Jones Bandwagon

September 8th, 2022

“Mike, let’s ruin Jerry Jones’ weekend.”

Yesterday Joe brought word about what soon-to-be Hall of Fame receiver Larry Fitzgerald thinks of Julio Jones playing in the Bucco Bruce Arians/Byron Leftwich offense.

Now the list of folks who think Julio will tear up defenses growing. Over at BSPN, NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler is hearing whispers from Bucs types that Julio might be exceeding their expectations for the receiver who dragged down the Bucs’ defense for so many years. (Hi Mike Smith.)

In a topic on the best non-quarterback newcomers on teams, Fowler thinks Julio will have the biggest impact.

Let’s go with Julio Jones. People with the Bucs are legitimately giddy over what they think the future Hall-of-Fame wideout can do for Tampa’s offense. Word is he looks rejuvenated and explosive. That was hardly the case last year in Tennessee, however, where Jones was hampered by injury and produced a career-low 31 catches. Can he stay healthy?

The last sentence there is the key. If the Bucs can get Julio on the field, he should freak out defensive coordinators. Joe thought Mike Evans said it best yesterday, when has a team lost an all-time great receiver and replaced him with an all-time great? That doesn’t happen very often.

And here is the thing about Julio: Joe doesn’t think we will have to worry about Julio forging V-cards or doing topless jumping jacks in the end zone.

If Julio stays healthy I can see 60 balls 900 yards and 5 TD’s (I’d like to guess 8 TD’s but Julio has never scored many TD’s in his career).

  2. Cobraboy Says:

I’m curious whether the signing of Jones has anything to do with any possible disappointment in Gage, or Gage’s health.

He’s gone from freaky hero to The Invisible Man.

    What say you, Joes?

  3. SB Says:

Man if JJ can stay healthy once Godwin gets back this offense will be unstoppable!

  4. Pewter Power Says:

I think the #6 he changed to will look better than 85, that number just doesn’t seem to fit him

  5. A Bucs Fan Says:

I don’t think signing Julio was an indictment on Gage, but insurance for a long season.

  6. Bucs Win Says:

ME 13 was on The Richard Sherman podcast last night, it’s awesome.

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Tom Brady’d influence has motivated Julio greatly…….he’ll receive a lot of attention from defenses……I expect Gage to be the sleeper on offence……he will be able to get open with the coverage going to others…..

  8. George Says:

Brady recruited Julio hard . Evans is correct not often a team replaced one all time great receiver with another . As Russell Gage said, “ A healthy Julio is a problematic Julio”

Now let’s get some linemen so Brady has time to throw to him

    what if:

julio has a bounce back year and we have three 1,000 yard receivers…

i mean hey, it’s possible…not probable, but possible

  10. AbucAway Says:

If Julio is wanting to be on a team that gives him the best shot at a ring, I think it’s reasonable to say that this team this year is it. He’s going to do everything he can to help. Based upon what we are hearing, something lit a fire under his business which didn’t happen with the Titans. Maybe he knew there wasn’t a chance there and just collected a check. He knows this may well be his real last shot and will leave nothing on the field.

  11. AbucAway Says:

*leave it all on the field.

  12. Jeff Says:

Julio will be unreal in 3 games this year. He’ll be hurt the other 14.

  13. Bobby M. Says:

He’s likely assuming Gronk’s routes/catches but with much more speed and vertical ability. Gronk was tough to defend and he was relatively slow compared to Jones. Should be fun to watch….I bet we see his presence pay dividends early.

  14. Ben Harvey Says:

Tampa has a very tough schedule this year and with Godwin and now Gage nursing injuries and not back to 100% health yet, this is a great insurance policy to have. Gronk and Brown’s targets are up for grabs in this offense. I think Julio and Gage both play significant roles.

  15. captivajim Says:

we’ve got 3 receivers ( Evans , Julio , Gage ) with hamstring problems from time to time.. wonder how many games will we have all three playing

  16. Buc1987 Says:

Jeff Says (a lot of BS)

“Julio will be unreal in 3 games this year. He’ll be hurt the other 14.”

Just like you were right about Brady not coming back after his vacay.

Why are you always so damn negative?

    Go Bucs!!

    What if we have (4) 1,000-yd Wr’s this season…… !?!

Tom Brady 2022 Season Stats Prediction: 6,000 yds 58 TD 80% Completion Rate, MVP, SB MVP

SPREAD THE LOVE, TOMMY. AND GET IT OUT QUICK BABY

  18. Rod Munch Says:

If, if, if… if he’s healthy, he’s a huge bonus for this team.

But just imagine if they didn’t sign him, we might be going into week 1 with Scotty Miller as the #2 WR. It’s remarkable how often Bucs WRs get injured.

  19. Buczilla Says:

I still feel that Julio is one of the most overrated (pathetic touchdown production for a supposed hall of famer in this era) players in recent memory, but he’s had a wonderful career nonetheless. If this dude is 75% of his prime self as our number four wideout, our offense is going to be insanely hard to stop.

  20. Bucsfan13 Says:

Brady has a big man crush on Julio. His eyes light up when he speaks about Julio. Brady appreciates good receiver play, especially a guy like Julio who runs precise routes and attacks the ball. Julio said Brady used to DM him on IG. Brady’s been eyeing this guy for a long time. Maybe a little tampering? Lol. He made a point to target Julio in the preseason game. If Julio has a good game, it’ll be something teams will need to game plan for. Right now, teams see a washed receiver on a team with a bad OL.
