Take a wild guess which team leads the NFL in sacks? You’ve got it: Your Tampa Bay Buccaneers, baby.
Joe is a firm, devout believer that no play affects a game defensively more than a sack. Often it leads to turnovers. Usually, it kills drives. Always, it gets in a quarterback’s head.
That the Bucs could rarely buy a sack in the depths of the Lost Decade. Now, they lead the NFL with 10 through two games.
Bucs inside linebacker Devin White is a big part of that. He has three sacks and is one of several NFL players with three sacks through two games, which is good enough for third in the NFL, tied with Myles Garrett, Alex Highsmith, Nick Bosa and Aidan Hutchinson.
The Bucs are excelling at more than just sacks. They’re among league leaders in many defensive categories.: fewest points allowed and fewest touchdowns; tied for second in fewest first downs per game. And Tampa Bay ranks third in yards per play, defensive pressure percentage, fewest net yards per pass attempt, quarterback hits, takeaways, force fumbles and defensive fumble recoveries.
The Bucs are balling out on defense!

We have a big challenge in that department coming in two weeks. Mahomes is infuriatingly hard to sack. We need all hands on deck to stop him. Todd Bowles will need to concoct a master game plan for KC.

Need sacks from the interior, and much more from Shaq and JTS. Without the Suh/Hicks position at top level for an extended period, there’s going to be a problem unless they make a move.

I love how Devin White hides behind the linemen battling for position and then comes out of nowhere on the delayed blitz. QBs don’t know what to do. Keep up the good work, Mr. White! Go Bucs!

Sacks are sexy, but I also like how Coach Bowles emphasized wanting incompletions yesterday at his presser, which plays a part in getting our D off the field and the ball back into the hands of our offense. It’s all complimentary and as a defense we certainly have room to improve in terms of forcing more 3 & outs. Through 2 games, we’ve also done a solid job keeping chunk plays against our defense at a minimum.

Music to my ears. I’ve always bin a defensive guy. Growing up watching lynch sapp n brooks will do that. Love what I’m seeing from our defense. The real test y’all will come this Sunday. Cowboys are so so. The aints usually have our number but come on turnover machine for a QB lol our defense will be tested this Sunday by karen n there 2 headed monster rushing attack. Aron Jones n Dillon look good like best duo in the league good. I really hope our defense sends them back to wiscanton with their tails between their legs crying like little Karen’s lol

Defense wins championships. For this old fan, it’s much more fun to watch a game when I know my team is going to knock the stuffing out of the other team’s offense and limit them to 300 yards or less. I have enjoyed these two wins more than most of the wins last year, because I always knew that last year’s defense was capable of giving up big yards and points in bunches. Witness the Bills comeback as exhibit A.
Go Bucs. Keep playing defense like this and Tom will find his way with the scrubby offense.

Gee, have White run forward, towards the ball, and not backpedalling into coverage, and what a difference. Remarkable that no one figured that out last year. Oh wait, some people did.
