Only One Buccaneer Ruled Out For Sunday

September 9th, 2022

Good times at One Buc Palace.

The official Friday injury report is in. And it’s looking good.

Only one Buccaneer has been ruled out of Sunday’ night’s game in Dallas. That’s rookie cornerback Zyon McCollum, who is still nursing the hamstring injury he suffered in a joint practice with the Titans a few weeks ago.

Pro Bowl receiver Chris Godwin was full-go in today’s light practice. Will he test his knee Sunday, eight months after ACL surgery. He and fellow receiver Russell Gage (hamstring) officially are questionable.

The rest of the Bucs are considered healthy, including running back Giovani Bernard, who made some key plays against Dallas last season. He was nursing a bad ankle.

The Bucs are pretty damn healthy. Let’s Go!

Joe – will we be getting the scuttlebucs and rock riley podcasts this year? Also looking forward to the dallas game preview on the ira podcast!

  2. Buxfainintx Says:

Who is in charge of training? The last 2 years we’ve had more hamstring issues on this team than the other nfl teams

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Hamstrings are tricky injuries……if there is the slightest tweak…..it is wise to rest the player until it’s gone……it’s the only way to avoid further injury…..

If Gage isn’t ready, that means Godwin will likely play…..we’ll have Evans, Godwin, Jones, Perriman & Scotty.

We have to sit 6 players……we know the Zion & Trask are 2…..the other 4 would be Gage, a backup Olineman & a backup Dlineman….and the last…who knows…

  4. Marine Buc Says:

I am fine with Godwin taking another week or two off. I really don’t want him rushed back into service until he is 100% ready.

We are lucky to have both Gage and J. Jones added to this roster…

I’m glad we kept 7 WRs this season because I have a feeling we are going to need each one at some point this season.

  5. David Says:

I still say if they need to rest Godwin, do it.

As far as the hamstrings, it’s normal every single year and not just at the Buc camp. It is more prevalent with teams in humidity though. Got to stay hydrated.

  6. unbelievable Says:

If he’s not absolutely 100%, I’d be fine resting Godwin until week 3.

You know the dirty arse Saints will be gunning for his knees…

  7. Derek Says:

Are we going to have another podcast come out this week?

  8. Bucanero Says:

    2 of you count Gronk

  9. Bucsfan13 Says:

They need Gage to suit up. Godwin isn’t playing. It’s pure gamesmanship by the team with him. Gage is more important than Evans and Julio because his release is quicker and he can get open in the slot. If we’re gonna do quick game, you need that guy who can get open quickly. That’s why AB and CG ate the last game we played Dallas. I love Mike to death, but the quick game is not his strong suit. Perriman, Miller, and Darden are not acceptable WR 3. If the Cowboys shade coverage to Julio and Mike, who do we have that can step up if Gage isn’t available? You saw what happened with the Rams last night when they only had two viable receivers and an OL that was a liability. Kupp got his as usual, but Allen Robinson was rendered useless.

    Godwin will go on Sunday!

Put this in to Youtube if you want to see a Godwin update.

D@mn! WTH happened to Gage..? Ripped his hammy and it rolled up the back of his leg? Dude’s been out forever and now he’s questionable? Glass Joe?

He’s not injured, he’s retired. Get over it.

  14. Anon Says:

    Shut up Dan you bum.

  15. CrackWise Says:

Dang, if you watch that and don’t feel like CG is ready to go then I don’t know what to tell ya.

I think he will use the Cowboys game to get him back mentally into the game situation and then he will come back and dominate the saints

  16. Bucsfan13 Says:

He still has a no contact jersey two days before the game…He’s not playing. I’m promise the Cowboys aren’t game planning for him. They know it’s gamesmanship by the Bucs.

  17. BucU Says:

Gage better ball out Sunday night.
Has he made thru a single full practice day since the day he arrived here? I don’t think so.
Getting tired of hiring his name on injury reports.

  18. Lt. Dan Says:

    @ Anon…what BucU said.

  19. Dew Says:

NFL put out the Godwin recovery video on YouTube

  20. D-Rok Says:

Bucs.com site has an awesome vid of Godwin’s recovery. Not sure if it’s the same vid as the YT vid – but that was some great, behind-the-scenes content of what CG has been through the last 6 months. Great stuff, don’t miss it!

NU powerhouse vs Duke tomorrow on FS1. Good primer for Bucs domination Sunday.

  22. SB Says:

    What Marine Buc said!
    and for giggles…………Suh!

  23. MonkeyMan Says:

Can we please just fast forward the weekend til kickoff time Sunday night??!?!

I can’t wait for this game just to see all these moving pieces in action that we’ve all followed pre season.

  24. Listnfrmafar Says:

Suh, Gronk & JPP, why not?

  25. Defense Rules Says:

Marine Buc … I agree with you about Godwin taking another week or two off before getting back out there. He really hasn’t had much practice time, and I’d hate to see him get banged up again because he wasn’t really 100%. I don’t expect Gage to go either, but with ME13, Julio, Perriman, Scotty & Darden they should have enough firepower in the WR group.

I’m expecting the Bucs to (1) run a lot more; and (2) use a lot more quick passes (to RBs especially) to help keep TB12 vertical. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Bucs run 20-25 times against the Cowboys this year (last year they only ran 14 times). Cowboys defense was only average last year (ranked #16 against the run, allowing over 1900 yards rushing). We can run against them I’m convinced.

  26. SOEbuc be Says:

If Godwin starts, sit Gage. That has been a scary sounding situation from the beginning.

  27. geno711 Says:

You see someone complaining about the Bucs trainers on this site and then you go to the video on Godwin, and you see how good the training is on this Bucs staff.

These guys are great. Hamstrings happen to elite athletes all over the NFL.

  28. JimmyJack Says:

If we dont have Gage we are suddenly thin at WR. That puts us one toe injury from being where we were last playoffs.

At least this time we dont have to worry about one of our recievers having a complete mental breakdown on the sideline.

  29. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

Not crazy about Godwin’s first game back on turf. I have no issue if they shoot for week 3.

  30. Zwak Says:

Gronk hasn’t filed the paperwork to be retired, Godwin needs a few more weeks if they are smart.

  31. Wild Bill Says:

I would leave it up Godwin. He knows exactly how his knee feels. If he says he feels ready then let him test it for a few plays. Just don’t send him across the middle in heavy traffic!

  32. Ash Says:

No one files retirement papers in the NFL gronk is retired. I think Godwin will play a few snaps.

  33. Redeemer Says:

Bringing Godwin back before week four, would be a mistake. The way the league tweaked the IR rules, I thought for sure he was headed there.

  34. bucfan34 Says:

Pound the rock and play defense!! Go Bucs!!!

  35. CrackWise Says:

People that fear everything will always find something else to fear once you show them there is nothing to fear.

I feel sorry for you crybabies. I really do. Even if you find a nut every now and then. You are still deaf, dumb and BLIND.

  36. Buccos Says:

Perriman is a good #3. He was a good #1 a couple years ago

    ———

Yeah, that’s why we have Brady, Evans, Julio, Godwin and Gage, to run up the middle on every down and try to win the game 10-6 like it’s 2001.

    ————–

You mean Perriman had one good strech in his entire career. I think he’s a good #5, but he’s not a good, week in, week out #3. Doesn’t mean he can’t be a good #3 for a week or two, but that doesn’t mean he’s a good #3. I mean he was cut by the Lions and Bears AFTER the end of the 2019 season. But I wouldn’t want him as a #3 for the entire season since you know he’s getting injured at some point. Thankfully, the Bucs only need him as a spot #3, and he is literally the #5, where I think he’s a nice advantage. Also that makes Miller, a #6, and if his issues were all related to health last year, if that wasn’t BS, and he’s 100% healthy and running at full speed again, then that is a huge boost.

    We shall see.

Darden as a #7… seems too high, should be more like a #11 WR, on an XFL team.

I will gladly eat this post if Im wrong here, but my goodness I don’t like Godwin starting. It just feels wrong to have him start this soon.
You doctors out there may be able to help understand how a major injury like his can heal so quickly. Could he possibly be 100%???

  41. Todd Says:

My nuts dropped a long time ago, but when I saw that photo of Shaq Barrett along with the headline, they returned home.

    Thanks a lot, Joe! 😂

  42. Anonymous Says:

@Rod Munch. Thank you! The fans fascination with Perriman is troubling. He had one good year for us in 2019. Since then, he’s been cut by the Bears, Jets, and Lions. He was below average last year, and dropped quite a few passes. I thought we should’ve kept Tyler Johnson over him. Perriman also doesn’t play STs like Johnson, so Bowles reasoning for keeping Perriman over Johnson didn’t make sense.
