NFL Says It’s Tampa Or Minneapolis

September 28th, 2022

Team Glazer.

No surprise here. The NFL is focused on keeping Sunday night’s game in Tampa, though no decision has been made other than Option 2 officially is the Vikings’ stadium in Minneapolis.

NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport shared the news on Twitter, noting the NFL is consulting with local Tampa authorities.

Rest assured that the Bucs will do everything possible to keep the game local. Tens of millions in ticket revenue is on the line!

Often overlooked, Joe believes, is the option of playing the game in Tampa but with a very limited number of fans, so everything related to crowd management is manageable. Neither the Bucs nor the NFL want to deplete local first-responder resources and staffing the game for a full stadium is a concern.

Hey, there’s always Monday, too.

Joe doesn’t expect an announcement until Hurricane Beckles leaves the greater Tampa Bay area and damage and power outages are assessed.

  10. David Huston Says:

What happens to ticket holders if they move game to MN? Wonder why no consideration for New Orleans.

  11. Bucfan1988 Says:

Yeah screw playing in Minnesota….that’s pure BS..

Postpone game to Monday nite or even Tuesday nite….

This is supposed to be a HOME game, not some clownshow travel trip up north…

  12. gbobucsfan Says:

Would be interesting to see if played with limited fans. How would they decide which fans were allowed to go?

  13. Josh Says:

Games have been moved to Monday or even Tuesday in the past. Moving it to Minneapolis is just ridiculous. Might as well just hand the chiefs home field advantage and the game..

  14. Timbucs2 Says:

Not that I’m hoping that it happens, but if the game is moved to Minneapolis I’ll go represent, since I live 2 miles from the stadium.

Praying that the hurricane damage is minimal though.

  15. Anonymous Says:

Move it to Monday. Extra day for Buc WR’s (Julio and Godwin) to heal and get ready to play.

  16. #8 Says:

Tampa residents will be happy the game is at home after a Big Storm.
    See what I did there??!!
ohhhhhhh. I’ll be here all day.

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

What do they do for season ticket holders?…….expect them to go to Minn?

I really wonder how much influence the team had on this.

  19. timbucs2 Says:

    @Tampabaybucfan

I remember when the Metrodome roof collapsed a few years ago; the Vikings played the Giants in Detroit as a “home” game. I think they just sold tickets cheap to local people and/or gave tickets away for free to try to fill the seats. I am guessing ticket holders in MN got their money back for that game, but i’m not sure.

  20. Buckley Says:

Well the last time I saw the Bucs play a game in Tampa but with a very limited number of fans was Super Bowl LV. That worked out pretty good. No lines for the rest room or for beers. The final score was nice too.

  21. Howard Cosell Says:

Assuming that Tampa wants to free up police and sheriffs to go down to Ft Myers where the eye hit. God bless Captiva Island.

That said Tuesday night at Licht House would kick total arse.
Tuesday night is usually an entertainment vacuum at the Cosell house

  22. adam from ny Says:

    tuesday night tummel in tampa

  23. Goatfarmer Says:

Hopeful news for a change. Don’t blow it, NFL.

  24. Bucs56 Says:

Moving a home game to a neutral site in MN is absolutely ridiculous. Already lost a home game with the germany promotion. Move it to Monday or Tuesday. We did it through the pandemic. If not played at home then move it to Miami or New england. Bucs TV ratings are equal to patriots and would have a home crowd there. But MN is an advantage for the chiefs.

  25. Adrnagy Says:

Why a neutral place ? If it’s bucs home game. Shouldn’t be in Miami or where bucs ownerships want ?

  26. ALFRED C STACKPOLE Says:

If They Want To Play In A DOME, There Is One In TAMPA, Do You Remember That The RAYS Play In A DOME In Tampa.???
Local Dome, Local Crowd, Local FANS. DONE DEAL.!!!

  27. firethecannons Says:

Maybe monday night at home but I doubt it this is catastrophic
no power for weeks no not viable on monday in tampa

  28. Gary Says:

Go Buccs. Don’t matter where we play. Just tell Bryon to get play calling better.

  29. David Says:

Tampa was not hit nearly as much as they anticipated, it seems they should be good for Sunday night or the very least move it to Monday.
