Career Game For Jamel Dean
September 18th, 2022Cornerback Jamel Dean put his foot down months ago. It’s a contract year for him and he’s shooting for a fat bag in free agency.
Some players don’t talk cash; Dean flashed his trademark smile and said he was prepping to dominate and cash in.
First, he won the starting outside cornerback job opposite Carlton Davis, putting Sean Murphy-Bunting on the bench. Then he balled out for what’s been the NFL’s best defense through two weeks — by a mile.
Today Dean hauled in two interceptions and they weren’t flukes. Those two match is total from 2021, and it’s same total he had during his 2019 rookie season.
Dean is long, fast and physical, and if he can develop good hands (something he’s worked on big-time), then the Bucs have something very special.
Joe can only imagine the huge grin on general manager Jason Licht’s face when he thinks about his pair of 25-year-old cornerbacks in his handcrafted secondary. Licht has done a masterful job building what appears to be the best defensive backfield in the game.
Anyone miss Jordan Whitehead?

Our DBs won the game today! Besides White, our front 7 was pretty average today
September 18th, 2022 at 4:18 pm
Winfield too. He saved our butt twice.
September 18th, 2022 at 4:19 pm
Atta Boy Dean!!! That was a dirty Saints team and questionable calling by the refs as well. GO BUCS!!!!

September 18th, 2022 at 4:22 pm
So glad to see Dean to set the tone to end the game. Note to Saints ,don’t PO
Mike Evans. There is fight in that dog. It helped fire up the rest of the team.

Been trying to tell some of you fools !!
September 18th, 2022 at 4:27 pm
Bucs made the right decision to start Dean.
September 18th, 2022 at 4:27 pm
Winston is always making CB rich.
September 18th, 2022 at 4:30 pm
Best D in the league
September 18th, 2022 at 4:31 pm
Been telling y’all about Dean since his first game in Seattle… dude keeps getting better.
September 18th, 2022 at 4:32 pm
Vea and Hicks got dominated. Our DBs saved us. Who woulda thought?
September 18th, 2022 at 4:34 pm
That was by far one of the worst officiated games I have seen in a long long time.
They were the story of the game up until ME threw a monkey wrench in things.
Seriously, that game was shaping up to make us all complainers and whinners BIG TIME.
THANK YOU MIKE. I will never forget these amazing moments you keep giving us. WE SO LOVE YOU BROTHER!!!!!!!!!!!

Dean was very helpful to The Bucs cause today. Will need similar performances the next two weeks .
September 18th, 2022 at 4:35 pm
great game for him and all the defensive backs
September 18th, 2022 at 4:37 pm
Dean did and awesome job today!!!! Consistency will definitely make me retract my opinion about his progression as an NFL player
September 18th, 2022 at 4:39 pm
Check yo sheets boys and then f her up the p. LMAO
September 18th, 2022 at 4:39 pm
George on two occasions you predicted the Bucs would only win 6 games.
What do you think now?
September 18th, 2022 at 4:41 pm
Todd has his defense playing reminiscent of the days of Sapp Brooks Barber Nickerson Lynch Barber Simeon Shelton Kelly
September 18th, 2022 at 4:52 pm
This Defense is a special group that plays with passion and has a *hit ton of talent.
September 18th, 2022 at 4:52 pm
I owe Todd an apology. Still waiting on the crow for the DardOn, whose lone contribution was a holding penalty erasing a nice run.
September 18th, 2022 at 4:57 pm
How about a coaching staff that developed DBs
September 18th, 2022 at 5:00 pm
Dean is now playing up to his potential with his speed and length. Used to have trouble tracking the ball. He’s come a long way! Way to go Jamel!
Go Bucs!

Grit, determination, will-power…erased a stalemate of a game through 3 quarters. It’s a sign you like to see from this team.
So pleased they woke up and pulled this game out.
These Bucs are for real, at least the D is. Hoping the O can round into better form in the next few weeks.
GO, 2-0 BUCS!!! We beat them Aints.
September 18th, 2022 at 5:05 pm
Player of the game, and it’s not even close. We are lucky to have two shut down corners. With D like this who needs offense!?
September 18th, 2022 at 5:16 pm
In other news….Cowboys are giving the Bengals supposedly retooled O-line fits.
September 18th, 2022 at 5:16 pm
Grover great point about Winfield. Made several great open field tackles.
September 18th, 2022 at 5:29 pm
Hope we can afford Dean next year.
September 18th, 2022 at 5:43 pm
Been saying he’s our top CB for past two years. Brain dead fans have been hyper critical of him for a while. They need to STFU. He’s one of the best in the NFL.
September 18th, 2022 at 7:21 pm
If this Defense stays healthy, they may top Dungy’s brilliant Tampa Two D. Plus, a lot of these youngsters already have SB rings so the skies the limit!
September 18th, 2022 at 8:22 pm
I pretty much ripped this dude all offseason for his inconsistency, tendency to get injured, and the coaches decision not to start him much as you would expect a good player to start. I’m thrilled to be wrong on this dude so far this year and Dean was a huge part of our win today.
September 18th, 2022 at 9:07 pm
Dean is def a keeper!
September 18th, 2022 at 9:21 pm
I’ve been calling it since last year, saying that he’s a better CB because of his speed. That interception he had on the deep ball in the end zone was a thing of beauty.
SMB is a very good CB but he needs to be a smart player in zone, he can’t handle tight coverage man to man like Davis and Dean can.
My guess is they pay Dean, let SMB walk when his contract is up and Zyon steps into that 3rd CB slot

The DBs are the strength of the defense. Where are all the morons calling them trash?
Thanks to them and to Todd and Logan Ryan for learning their schemes, assignments and executing the game plan. Ryan’s peanut punch was the real play of the game. Saints score a TD there, it’s over.
