Bucs’ Injury Woes Mount

September 21st, 2022

Cornerback Carlton Davis.

New faces are on the Buccaneers’ official injury report. Of course, that’s nothing new.

Joe’s too mentally disturbed to type all the names.

Julio Jones, after being a gametime decision on Sunday with a bad knee, did not practice today.

Newcomers to the injury report include cornerback Carlton Davis (hip), center Robert Hainsey (knee) and receiver Scotty Miller (calf). All were “limited” in practice today.

Left tackle Donovan Smith is still nursing his hyperextended elbow and did not practice. Chris Godwin also skipped practice with his bad hamstring.

The lone good news is rookie cornerback Zyon McCollum was back from his mid-August hamstring injury and was full-go in practice.

This is how football is bro chill out. Just as long as most of our guys are healthy come playoff time we’re good

  2. Goatfarmer Says:

Strength and conditioning program is a total failure.

  3. D-Rok Says:

This sucks. Sucks! Does it suck? Yes it does. Geez.

  4. Letsbucinggo Says:

Do we even have a conditioning program?

  5. Jeffbuc Says:

Maybe we should go back to old school. And have all the players come out on there half of the field. Do the stretching excercises we all did in high school and nfl players did before they got there individual coaches. The 30 minute roll your ankles stretch your back, hamstring, neck rolls. All the good stuff that really did loosen you up. Now it’s one player with headphones doing one leg jumps and side by sides

  6. D-Rok Says:

You know, I just have to ask: As a fan, would you rather the Bucs have not balled out quite so hard in the first 2 weeks…to prevent a few injuries? Is 2-0 better with a walking wounded team than a more healthy team at 1-1? Just something to ponder.

No team can go balls-out, 60 minutes, each game. Oh they can, but maybe we are seeing the result. Great record, but a bunch of guys hurt.

Recover soon, Bucs – we need you!!! 🙂

  7. D-Rok Says:

Of course I know, every football player goes balls out (or should) in each game they play, or else, why are they playing? Still, seems like an inordinate amount of injuries early on. The silver lining? Early injuries heal faster. Man.

  8. Jbeachbuc Says:

Good time for SMB to show what he’s really made of… next man up 👍

  9. D-Rok Says:

Yep, beach – let’s hope SMB is super hungry from riding the pine the first 2 weeks.

  10. Jerseybuc Says:

Dude WTF!! I know it’s only Wednesday report but come on man

  11. CleanHouse Says:

    Do you even lift bro?

  12. unbelievable Says:

So when Hainsey goes down with injury, who takes his place?

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

We always here about these things early in the week, and then most of them play.

  14. D-Rok Says:

Right, right, unbelievable? I mean, how many healthy tackles do we actually have on our team right now? Our depth at certain positions is pretty precarious, to say the least.

  15. Cobraboy Says:

With soft training camp, why is anyone surprised?

Injuries are up all over the NFL…

  16. Daniel Robbins Says:

Did new England have this going on? Is this the pliability we keep hearing about?

  17. Beej Says:

Every day I’m more shocked at how easy we got off injury-wise in 20/21

  18. unbelievable Says:

@Beej – we were exceptionally healthy that season outside of Vita Vea (and Shaq and White missing a game or 2 from covid)

  19. Defense Rules Says:

I don’t see why everyone’s surprised at this injury report. Davis spent 7 weeks on IR last year (plus was questionable for 2 games); it was just a matter of time before he got dinged up. Donnie’s hyper-extended elbow won’t heal overnight; he’ll miss several games regardless of his pain tolerance. Hainsey had been dinged up prior, and may very well never have gotten back to 100%. And Scotty spent 5 weeks on IR last season so no huge surprise there either.

Fact is that Bucs have a LOT of fragile players. A few are older vets (like Hicks, Julio & Gio), but most seem to be 25 or younger (like Davis, Godwin, Miller, Hainsey). Bizarre.

  20. Steve Garner Says:

There definitely needs to be an evaluation of who, what and why there are so many injuries to our starters over the past two years. This is not good and does reflect on the conditioning program and training expectations someone has put in place.

  21. Anon Says:

Smith was at practice today. He probably is going to practice tomorrow as there’s video of him at practice.

  22. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    So….let me see…

We have Davis, Miller, D Smith, Hainsey, Wells , Hicks, Gio, Jensen, Stinnie, Godwin, Julio & Evans (suspension)

But the good news…..we get Zion back…..

    But wait, it’s only Wednesday

  23. Kentucky Buc Says:

The sky is falling. The sky issss falling. You guys are so easily triggered. Wednesday injury report means nothing. Joe probably laughs his ask off knowing what’s coming when he puts this stuff out. Too many years of living under Murphys Law for Bucs fans.

  24. alton d green Says:

last year I said the same thing. Do the Bucs ever lift? They should masterbate twice a day while running ion place. In my 60 yrs of being a fan, i’ve never seen anything like this. Ate the Bucs really that freakn lazy???? The Bucs get more injuries off the field than they do on the field. I would fine the players $10,000 if they get within 5 ft from another player. Freaky things happen but guess what, same thing happened last year. BUT we’ve played 2 damn games. You got a 45 yr old QB and he rarely gets injured. He works constantly. It’s a little late to start conditioning now. We may have to start signing people from the nervous hospital. I’m PISSED!!!!!!!!!!

  25. alton d green Says:

    Tampabaybucfan.
you might want to check your list again. we probably lost 3 more before you finished your post

  26. captivajim Says:

i questioned the strength & conditioning program & trainers last yr as well..

  27. LakelandSteve Says:

It seems the last two years we have the most injured team in the league. Maybe everyone should be doing the TB 12 method and focus on pliability.

  28. Miller5252 Says:

Man!! It sounds like the undefeated season might come to an end. I’m sure Tommy wanted to end his last season as undefeated, but it might not happen now. 😂😂

What did everyone say at the beginning of the year…. 2-2 or 3-1 through the first 4 games would be acceptable. With all the injuries and the offense looking very mediocre, still on track. The D looks lights out and no way Brady allows the offense to continue to be so meh. The Bucs will be fine in the coming weeks.

  29. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    I forgot one….

    Carl Nicks….big toe

  30. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

Every time there’s an injury report, people seem to freak out about the training. I always thought that this was laughable… until now. While I admittedly do not have injury reports of all 32 teams in front of me, it seems like the Bucs have any inordinate amount of flexibility / non-contact related injuries.

I agree with Cobraboy that soft training camps lead to a great deal of this, but my goodness, do these guys not stretch? Joe, I know that you only get the first 20-30 minutes of practice, but does there seem to be any focus on flexibility?

  31. NCalBucsfan Says:

Check out the packers injury report. It’s not much different than ours as far as wide receivers…

T David Bakhtiari (knee) – Did Not Participate (Wed.)
WR Randall Cobb (Illness) – Did Not Participate (Wed.)
G/T Elgton Jenkins (knee) – Limited Participation (Wed.)
WR Allen Lazard (ankle) – Limited Participation (Wed.)
TE Mercedes Lewis (groin) – Limited Participation (Wed.)
WR Sammy Watkins (hamstring) – Limited Participation (Wed.)
WR Christian Watson (hamstring) -Limited Participation (Wed.)

  32. Bucanero Says:

    This is fine.

  33. Listnfrmafar Says:

Something is not right. Strength & conditioning should be evaluated. DR, last seasons injuries are last seasons.

  34. CrackWise Says:

MEH, lets be honest, we only care about the game day injury report.

  35. CrackWise Says:

    @NCalBucsfan

    EXCELLENT REPORT!!!! Thank You friend!!!

  36. Maniac Buc Says:

We have the most panicky fan base I have ever seen!

  37. CrackWise Says:

    @Tampabaybucfan

    Davis-matters
    Miller-does not matter
    D Smith-does not matter
    Hainsey-matters
    Wells-does not matter
    Hicks-does not matter
    Gio-does not matter
    Jensen-does not matter
    Stinnie-does not matter
    Godwin-matters
    Julio-does not matter
    Evans-matters

I see your point, I think. HOWEVER, this is FOOTBALL last I checked. So really when someone gets hurt IT DOSNT MATTER!!!

  38. ClwJB Says:

By product of an aged roster, lots of maintenance

Julio has looked brittle since the day he showed up – the PR game talking up his skills being on point – well yeah but if he falls down hard he is out for 2-4 weeks…Hicks, showed nothing in 2 games and now out for at least 4 – ugh I really thought he was an upgrade – looks to not be at all

Dude, ugliest signing thus far – Russell where is he Gage – please show up, we need you – got paid very well to be a ghost on the field

To have to go sign Cole when we have the “best WR room in the NFL” – please

    The best ability is availability

  39. SPARKY Says:

Why do we play these guys 100% of the snaps? Lenny was hurt but yet was in running almost every run, blocking on most pass plays, and running routes. White or Gio can run up the gut for no gain on first down too. I also want to give back the crow I was going to eat over Julio Jones. I might have been right about signing old guys. Jones, Gio, Hicks, Rudolph, Sherman, and so on, we have got absolutely nothing out of. Get some young blood.

  40. NCalBucsfan Says:

@CrackWise-your welcome. The official Buccaneers site usually will post both teams injury report.

  41. Purplepirate Says:

Bucs about to lose 2 in a row. Will be a nail biter against Greenbay and a curb stomping from the Chiefs.

  42. Crunchbuc Says:

When you go Woke and hire almost all women S&C coached. Get Woke…Get your players beat the hell up.

  43. CrackWise Says:

    @Purplepirate

Kinda like 2020 in the PLAYOFFS? I am with ya! Thats why we should all just go on vacation for the next two weeks.

    Where ya wanna go? Bahamas?

  44. CrackWise Says:

    @Crunchbuc

You are the I in IDIOTT. But thats ok, I am the D

  45. matthew veal Says:

We just played 2 games on concrete (artificial turf).

There are a couple more later but tge worse is over

  46. geno711 Says:

    I agree Crackwise.

Game Day Injury report is what matters.

  47. Beej Says:

promoted Deadrin Senat from practice squad, resigned Khalil Davis

  48. Oddball Says:

    @crackwise

    Football Lives Matter

  49. steele Says:

CrackWise, Hicks matters. Without him, the interior rush is greatly weaker. Rodgers and Mahomey automatically gifted two seconds in the pocket. Nobody on the roster replaces Hicks, who (wrongly by Bucs) was supposed to replace everything Suh was. No, Hall won’t, not as a unfinished rookie.

  50. CrackWise Says:

    @Oddball

LOL…. DOPE, you got me. I’m a bad person 🙁

  51. Bojim Says:

We can still beat the Packers.

  52. Beej Says:

I seem to recall we were supposed to be happed to win 2 of the 4

  53. steele Says:

What are they going to do about Hicks? Patrick O’Connor? Willington Previlon? Really?

They need to decide about Hicks, and sign Sheldon Richardson or Suh.

  54. Rga Says:

The Goat farmer suggest an issue with the strength and conditioning program. I think there may be something to this, ridiculous amount of injuries.

  55. ScottyMack Says:

Wow, look at all of “the sky is falling” people. Nobody to blame for this but Joe.

A day or even two of missing practice is hardly the same as “ALL OF THESE PEOPLE ARE INJURED AND AREN’T GOING TO PLAY!”

Calm down nervous Nellies and stop borrowing trouble. Life is hard enough without worrying about “what ifs”. Wait until there is an actual problem before flying off the handle!

  56. CrackWise Says:

I was limited in practice today to. I may or may not be able to go on the next article.

Who is gonna cry for me now??? I need to know who my real fans are!!!

  57. MadMax Says:

Two hard fought games where the guys were playing their hardest, and we won both. I wanted 2-2 from our first 4. And dont get me wrong, of course I want 4-0. But reality is reality.

We’ll roll with some backups and make the best of it. Brady knows, he’s been there plenty of times before.

It’ll be a tough game for the Packs, we’re deep in Rodgers head and he’s in our house…and we’re deep in the backfield. I think we pull out a close one…im feeling a tie game with a game winning field goal. (dont ask me how this ish comes to me, i dont know)

  58. MadMax Says:

Succop….Extra practice on those 60 yarders my man (Gamecock fan here, born and raised)

  59. Adrnagy Says:

Its all good. We got camarata to punt

  60. Alvafan Says:

I guess we’ll find out who won the defensive lineman draft between the two teams.

  61. adam from ny Says:

when will they tell us what jensen’s injury is??????

this is straight crazy man 🙂

  62. AbucAway Says:

Senat has been moved up from the practice squad to help booster the D line. Anyone know anything about him? Other than he is not SUH?

  63. 97 bucBaby Says:

Carlton Davis got hurt as soon as he started playing soft allowing a Td n probably 2 if Olave wouldn’t had fumbled. He started playing real dumb when he assumed the game was over. Bowles need to check him on that n Kevin Ross

  64. Bucfan Says:

Were there this many early season injuries back in the day when teams played SIX pre-season games? The trainers & condictioning staffs need to be waived!

  65. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

Correct your mistake Jason Licht- SIGN SUH

  66. BucU Says:

    The brittle Bucs strike again!

  67. John Herb Says:

For the last several years it has been hamstrings and knees. S&C coaches need to walk the plank!

  68. JVZ Says:

Everyone blames conditioning on the coaches. What about each of these players, have they no responsibility towards the millions they each make? Seems the more they get paid the less they work on themselves. You’d think that would bring each one more responsibility to self and team to show up in the beginning unprepared. If they don’t do what they are paid too do then they shouldn’t get paid.

So who is to blame? The coaches? Tell me, who pays each of you if you show up to work unprepared? Do they put you on IR or replace you?

Stop blaming the organization and put blame for the lack of conditioning on each of the lazy millionairs that show up unprepared to do their jobs. More money fails to justify less personal work. Everyone wants the glory but few earn it.

  69. teacherman777 Says:

Jamel Dean is a CB 1.

SMB is a decent CB 2.

But who is our CB 3?

  70. LostDecadeSurvivor Says:

Bro if anyone who complains about the S&C program can explain to me what must be done differently. Unitl them I’m not going to listen to a sedentary internet commenter on what is wrong.

  71. Ed Says:

I do agree with some of the posts regarding the overuse of Leonard Fournette. BL has to stop with every first down being a Fournette run up the gut. In the Dallas game, first play of the game was that quick hitter to Godwin and he was off to the races. I would love to hear what Bucs first down run or pass percentage was compared to the rest of the NFL teams. Our offensive play calling has been very basic and Brady isn’t comfortable with what he is seeing.

Leftwich needs to draw up some different plays that are not so predictable to defenses.

  72. MadMax Says:

@Alva, yeah I wanted Wyatt, but the trade down commodity allowed for a lot more…Ive still got faith in our kid Hall.

  73. Baby Grace Says:

Seems like a lot of the people on this site really want Suh. Why have none of the 31 other teams not want him? Answer: He is old and and not even even close to the player he once was.

  74. Wayne Says:

I am sick of these Injuries! Godwin should have never been put into that first game as he simply is not ready coming off an ACL and MCL surgery. That was a very asinine move on Bowles part! There is something wrong with the Bucs system when you have that many players hurt.
