Todd Bowles Updates Status Of Receivers

August 28th, 2022

Status on injured receivers.

A lot of focus is being paid to the health, or lack thereof, on the offensive line. And for good reason.

Pro Bowler Ryan Jensen will be out months, and All-Pro Tristan Wirfs is nicked up. And both backup centers got hurt last night. Other than that, how was the car ride, Mrs. Kennedy?

Bucs receivers are also banged up. But it is a lot more promising for the injured receivers than the offensive line, based on updates from Todd Bowles last night.

Mike Evans played last night after returning to practice last week from his near annual hamstring injury. Joe asked Bowles point blank if Evans is 100 percent and Bowles said he is.

Then there is Chris Godwin. He was practicing before the game, though didn’t suit up. Jenna Laine reported that Godwin made a twisting, turning catch, the kind that wouldn’t have been made if he wasn’t comfortable with his knee.

Russell Gage? Bowles didn’t sound encouraging that his hamstring injury is close to healed.

“He’s getting there,” Bowles said. “We have a week of practice before we even start game week, so we’ll see how he is this week.”

Joe just doesn’t get the impression Godwin will be ready to go Week 1. The Bucs seem more focused on Godwin’s availability in November, December, January and February than on Sept. 11.

Hate ta break it to ya.

Bucs are playing for a wildcard spot.

Brady can’t carry a team with a Swiss cheese line.

  5. godlovesbucs Says:

Vance- he has had bad o lines before. And worse wr’s before too, still found ways around it.

  6. Bigbuc90 Says:

Our defense is going to be the talk of the first four weeks! Tom will manage with this oline he has worked with lesser talent than this, we just need him to be a game manager that’s all. Can’t wait to see our starting defense this year knock some heads off

  7. fire the cannons 2022 Says:

I don t like yard less darden either …. he reminds me of looks like tarzan plays like jane… looks good in underwear football

  8. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

Regarding the offensive line. I know it’s just one drive, but when Brady was in, the protection was good and there were some good holes for the running game. When he went out, the line was the same except for DS76 and the Colts defense blew everything up.

What’s the common thread? It’s not Durable Donnie, it’s TB12. Defenses have to stay super basic and Brady capitalizes on every mistake. The moral of the story is that if our starting 5 in Dallas are Smith, Goedeke, Hainsey, Mason and Wirfs, I think we’ll be ok.

Every year at the cutdown to 53, 2 or 3 names hit the market no one was expecting. it wouldn’t surprise me is they bring in a veteran guard who is cut or via trade for a 6th or 7th round pick, but in current form, the OLine will be fine.

  9. Buc4evr Says:

Just need Hainsey and Leverett back and the O line should be OK. Not great, but Good enough to give Brady time. Hopefully Jason can find another guard and a center after cut down.

  11. Jeff Says:

Bucs have failed to address the O line. Look for the Bucs to win 8 games. Dallas 38 Bucs 22.

  12. Billyboy2211 Says:

Is that what your “source” told you jeff cuz they were WRONG once already

  13. mark2001 Says:

All these new trolls coming out of The sewer. Sure… Their thoughts mean anything. LOL.

  14. AtticusFlinch Says:

Goatf-er, haven’t you notoiced that Darden NEVER has a chance to take a step with the ball on PTs, last night and last year? The gunners are always in his lap as he catches the ball. This is a STs problem, not a Jaelon Darden problem.

Also, for three years running and NOT including this preseason, the Bucs have led the league in the total number of games missed by starting receivers due to hamstring injuries. Yes, some players are prone to hamstring injuries and it’s a fact that prior hamstring injuries render those same hamstrings more susceptible to future injuries.

Having said that, hamstring injuries along with many other soft tissue injuries are mostly PREVENTABLE. This means that certain players (cough….cough….Mike Evans and Chris Godwin) and/or their training and conditioning staffs (and coaches) supervising and enforcing the need for proper conditioning, stretching, warm up and overall pliability of the hamstring muscle groups, primarily the tendons, have been professionally NEGLIGENT in assuring that each of these problematic skill position speedsters are ready for full speed practices or game play. This includes proper hydration year-round along with off-season conditioning and stretching.

It isn’t the drinking “water” of Tampa Bay or the proximity to the Bermuda Triangle causing this game-costing, perhaps even season-costing perennial hobbling of the Team. You’d think that being the Home of the TB12 Method where “Pliability” is almost a sacred concept would help remove this albatross but it hasn’t. Bottom line is that someone within the Bucs organization should be held accountable for this now embarrassing problem. Perhaps a hefty player fine for games missed like for being overweight after suitable warnings, or training staff disciplining, might be in order. I dunno. I just know that the injuries aren’t the type of “freak”, non-contact ones which happen once in a blue moon.

  15. 1#bucsfan Says:

All off-season all the talk has bin about our offense. That was before injury too. Seems like everyone is sleeping on our defense. Mark my words. This will be the best defense in a long time. Better then the 2020 super bowl n might be better then our 2002 super bowl. With our new addictions n everyone getting healthy on defense just watch them boys going to carry is till the offense drops the hammer

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Gloom and doom…the sky is falling……relax, this roster isn’t complete………

  17. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

After the last preseason game is the time Licht makes his move for depth on the Oline. Its not necessarily “cast offs”. Other teams have to get rid of decent players because of cap space.

  18. Vance Says:

You also realize that our schedule is 1 of the toughest this season?

  19. Listnfrmafar Says:

I don’t see the love for Darden either. He has done absolutely NOTHING since he was drafted. Scotty can’t return punts? Sure hands and speed. The ST coach needs to be canned, they continue to suck.

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

If you put any significance to the lineup or receivers last night, this is what the depth chart looks like

    Evans
    Godwin out
    Gage out
    Jones
    Tyler Johnson
    Jaelon Darden
    Perrimn, Miller, Thompkins

  21. Wes Says:

There’s a lot o negativity and fake fans in this comment section, I see.

  22. Billyboy2211 Says:

So many clowns here must of loved losing and miss being able to bitch about it

  23. Jason Says:

Absolute stupidity to have Hainsey in there still.

  24. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    So many naysayers.

    We’ll be fine.

  25. Rich S Says:

Hope that Darden not Miller gets cut

  26. 813bucboi Says:

    So, was booger right?….lol…

    GO BUCS

  27. JimmyJack Says:

Over 9 years Ive learned never worry about Mike. Very durable.

Its nice to know Godwin is close but Gage is the guy we need in the meantime.

  28. JimmyJack Says:

Rich dont get your hopes up. Darden started last night and Miller got the sloopy seconds.

  29. Melvin Junior Says:

This Gage ‘situation’ is getting a little worrisome… I mean, WTH… Musta been a very severe hamstring injury, or he is not quick recoverer… He has barely even been out there hardly at all?

  30. Ed Says:

Don’t think you have to be disloyal to be concerned. Both o-line and receivers are a mess. Even without the injuries, the season was a big challenge due to the brutal schedule. Now it is even worse. With all the injuries, retirements, and simply lack of resigning key players, they could end up with a .500 record. At least they are due to finally beat the Slimy Saints. Come on defense, you have to step up.
