Luke Goedeke Not Ready Yet

August 20th, 2022

Shaky game.

Rookie left guard Luke Goedeke is quickly learning he ain’t playing Bowling Green any longer.

Goedeke, the second-round pick out of Central Michigan in the MAC, has impressed Bucs types with his run blocking. His passing blocking needs work. And tonight, Goedeke is demonstrating he’s still a work in progress as an NFL starter.

In the first quarter in the Bucs’ second preseason game against Tennessee, Goedeke seemed like he had made progress and was having a nice game. Then he  faced Titans’ bubble players in the second quarter and Goedeke played down to their level.

Goedeke had two holding penalties and gave up a sack. That’s not what the Bucs want to see for a guy the Bucs hope is blocking for a 45-year old immobile quarterback.

Joe sensed from the Bucs that if Goedeke had a good game tonight, he’d be very much in the mix to start at left guard.

After tonight, it sure appears that job is still wide open.

  3. Knucknbuc Says:

  8. Jerry Says:

Well… he’s going to have to be ready now. Stinnie looks done.

  9. 99 55 47 20 Says:

Well he needs to be get ready quick fast and in a hurry now. Why was Stinnie playing at the end of the 3rd quarter anyway smh

  10. Destinjohnny Says:

JAson and his 2nd round later round pics….
This is why we have to sign free agents

  11. Bucamania Says:

Ali wanted to play his ukulele full-time.

Tretter coming in hot. Tretter starts at center, hainsey shifts to guard and we still have some depth. Goedeke’s learning curve is obviously bigger than we were hoping. Hainsey showed promise but Brady doesn’t need to get blown up every third play, with no veteran help next to him.

  13. NCBucfan Says:

Can we get Suh to play guard?

  14. Wild Bill Says:

If Brady is watching this game with his wife she is saying baby you aren’t going to have any blockers left when the season begins! Do you really want to play 17 games with leftovers?

  15. George Says:

    Make the Tretter deal now

  16. NCBucfan Says:

Giselle to Brady, “Baby, why would you want to go back and get smashed, when you can just stay home and smash me baby”

  17. MadMax Says:

Need to sign Tretter and let Hainsey and Luke battle for LG!

  18. firethecannons Says:

Trask takes too long to get the ball out and he floats too often–he is not our QB of the future

  19. Oddball Says:

Wait, Gabbert is 45 and immobile?

  20. Rod Munch Says:

Just go back to Cappa when he started… he had as bad of a preseason as I can remember, he looked like he didn’t belong in the NFL at all, he constantly was being beat, looked too slow and too weak. Then the season started and he was fine.

Not saying that will happen here, but Goedeke, to me, doesn’t look anywhere near as bad as Cappa did that year.

In any case whatever Licht wants to do here will almost certainly be the right thing. That’s the one unimpeachable area of the team where Licht has excelled, on the offensive line, and gets every benefit of the doubt.

  21. Rod Munch Says:

Also that stupid thing they’re putting over their helmets… I’d rather have a brain injury than be photographed in that thing, it’s just flat out embarrassing.

  22. Kody Says:

I’D FEEL WAY BETTER WITH TRETTER.

  23. Goatfarmer Says:

It is Tretter time. Restructure who you have to and get his ass before someone else does. Can’t afford to play games anymore.

Todd – time to be a man and tell Licht to get it done. While there’s still time for him to get in Game shape and learn the offense.

  24. sasquatch Says:

Rookies have growing pains. No reason to panic. The guy is moving from RG to LT and a major step up in competition. The more he plays, the better he’ll be. He’s the future at LG, so let’s give him as much action as possible.

  25. LakelandSteve Says:

Goedeke looks more like a long term project than a guy fighting for a starting job.

  26. Capt.Tim Says:

Does Goedeke look alot smaller than his listed size?
Looked tiny next to other Olinemen tonight.
Hes nowhere ready to start, and Leverette is below average at best.

Our Oline is in big trouble

  27. Destinjohnny Says:

We only have one scout that covers the entire southeastern region……

  28. Bucschamp Says:

Not ready yet is better than injured and not available

  29. Bucs Guy Says:

Need to take advantage of our WR depth and trade for a G. Stinnie is probably out for the year and Goedeke clearly isn’t ready with 2 bad pre-season games. He struggles in the pass game for a team that wants to throw 30-40 times a game.

Not sure I agree with getting a C and moving Hainsey to LG. Prior to training camp nobody was ready to give him the job. Now you want to hand it to him without him playing the position this year? I’m a firm believer in continuity on the O-line and the less pieces you move around, the better. Keep Hainsey at C (he`s serviceable) and go get a G.

I think I’m gonna be sick.
