“I Don’t Think It Matters”

August 18th, 2022

“You guys see Miranda Lambert yet?”

So what is going on with Tom Brady? It’s anyone’s guess.

A week ago Tom Brady went on vacation took a leave of absence which got the green light from the Bucs. Supposedly, Brady will be ready for the regular season. Brady’s people, or someone close to Brady, made sure the right folks in the national media knew no one in his family was sick. So what is it?

Colin Cowherd basically has thrown in the towel and has given up trying to figure out Brady. And Cowherd seems to be in the same camp as Joe: As long as Brady lines up behind center at Dallas for Week 1, all will be right in Joe’s world.

Cowherd, smartly, believes with so many starters throughout the league getting just about the entire preseason off, the last guy the Bucs should be worried about is Brady.

“I don’t think it matters,” Cowherd said of Brady on vacation. “Aaron Rodgers never plays in preseason. I don’t think chemistry is an issue. This is his third year with the guys. It’s a terrible division. [The Bucs] are going to win it going away.”

In fact, Cowherd said he wouldn’t have an issue with Brady staying home rather than traveling to Munich when the Bucs face the Seahawks in the first regular season game in NFL history to be played in Germany. That way, Cowherd said, Brady can have another mini vacation and not have to travel overseas and be fresh for the playoffs.

Man, if Brady did that the NFL would fully freak out. The reason the Bucs were chosen for this game in the first place was because of Brady, so the NFL can market the sport to the krauts. That all blows up in smoke if Brady stays stateside.

Cowherd also added that if he had to guess, he thinks Brady had something set up with his family during his 40-day retirement and Brady doesn’t want to go back on his word so the Bucs told him to go enjoy himself.

That makes about as much sense as anything else.

To see and hear Cowherd’s full take, you can view the FS1 video below.

Cowherd also added that if he had to guess, he thinks Brady had something set up with his family during his 40-day retirement and Brady doesn’t want to go back on his word with his family so the Bucs told him to go enjoy himself.

Makes sense to me. Tom Brady is the exception to every belief and sacred cow most people have about football, sports careers, and personal fitness.

  2. TAMPA BAY DEMON Says:

I am fine with it. There is no doubt in my mind that Tom is going to come back with that familiar fire in his eyes, and ready to GO.
    LFG BUCS!!

  3. Beeej Says:

If I had a nickel for every time that dude said Brady was washed up…

  4. TAMPA BAY DEMON Says:

(off topic) I AM, however, a little concerned about what I was hearing about Robert Hainsey against Simmons for Tennessee.

Just normal growing pains or do we have reason to be worried?

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

He negotiated the break as a condition of his return…..no problem…

    In other words…..WGAS…..

  6. ZZBUC Says:

Cowherd is a tabloid cheap journalist that pretends to be serious…Same as Florio….You are not like that Joe…….

  7. PassingThru Says:

It isn’t just Hainsey, it’s the ineptitude at LG.

  8. BucBrady Says:

“I don’t think chemistry is an issue. This is his third year with the guys.”

Except it’s not. He has a new center, a new guard, new WRs, and new TEs to develop chemistry with.

It is a concern–anyone saying it’s not just for some reason doesn’t want to take off the pewter glasses. This is a far cry from the practices they had in the Tampa city parks that helped get them to the Super Bowl.

I’m not worried about Brady, but this is a team sport. He needs to get back in practice.

  9. Kentucky Buc Says:

Cowherd and smartly in the same sentence. That may be a first. Might as well throw Florio in there while your at it.

  10. #8 Says:

Cowherd is the best of the hollerin types in my opinion.
He at least admits wrong & pokes fun at himself.

I predict Cowherd would enjoy some better D-Line depth for the Bucs too.

  11. Tim Says:

I was going to say the same thing about Cowherd and smartly in the same sentence, however I actually think the idea of keeping Brady stateside while the team goes to Germany is brilliant. Screw the NFL and their marketing. Keeps Brady fresher. But I don’t think Brady would agree to it.

  12. Yucs2Bucs Says:

@Joe will always be grateful he came here and was a HUGE part in manning another SB, but I’m over the soap opera that comes along with TB12. I want someone who wants to be here and none of know how this season plays out, but obviously will be the last we see of Tom in Tampa. I believe he regrets coming back and made the entire organization become yes people and will make it or spin it any way because Tom is in control and they don’t want to make him mad and not play this season. He was gone and was ready to suit up for the Fins, but Flores messed that opportunity up for this season and came back here. These practices have looked very different because he doesn’t look happy or like he wants to be here and took this break which no other has ever done because of it. I wonder what the other players really think and I hope he comes back and doesn’t pull an AB and bounces with the organization having egg all over their face. Next year I think Jimmy G will be under center and still have a 3 year window to get another VL trophy. Alright I’m out and Go Bucs

  13. SufferingSince76 Says:

Good thing Brady is used to the spotlight. Imagine having your every move and word analyzed to death.

  14. Your Mom Says:

That would be hilarious if he skipped that game… those overseas games are ludicrous.

  15. Joe Says:

Next year I think Jimmy G will be under center and still have a 3 year window to get another VL trophy. Alright I’m out and Go Bucs

Unless the Bucs make major changes to their personnel on offense, Jimmy GQ won’t be coming here. The Bucs are a long-ball throwing team. Jimmy GQ can’t throw long.

*In theory* Kyle Trask is supposed to be the quarterback of the future.

  16. Lesko_Brandon Says:

I can’t believe not a single paparazzi has followed brady. With Brady’s high celebrity profile, not a single pic of where he is ?

  17. SB~LV Says:

    Very very strange

  18. Joe Says:

Screw the NFL and their marketing. Keeps Brady fresher. But I don’t think Brady would agree to it.

Don’t forget the Glazers lobbied for this game because of Brady. If Brady stayed home, it wouldn’t just be Roger Goodell that would be p!ssed. So too would all 32 owners not to mention the guys who cut Brady’s checks.

Always remember and never forget: The NFL is a business, not a game. The game element is just a vehicle to make cash.

  19. Chris Tucker@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

IF Brady decides to not go to Germany. he best have an ironclad excuse.
IMHO, if that scenario were to happen, the NFL would be all over it, because Brady is such a draw.

About Hainsey, the practices then game against the Titans will allow us to judge Hainsey’s ability to play center, in place of Ryan Jensen.
If he passes this test, all fine and good, but if he falters, there is still enough time for us to explore other options.

I know some fellow Bucs fans want us to pursue Tretter. Tretter is a highly ranked Center, but comes from a totally different blocking scheme than what we use.

  20. Yucs2Bucs Says:

@Lesko I looked yesterday and totally agree.. lol

  21. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

    #8, I fixed it for you…

“…I predict Cowherd would SHU for some better D-Line depth for the Bucs too.”.

  22. PassingThru Says:

    @Chris

Does the blocking scheme really matter if they cannot protect the QB?

    NO

  23. CrackWise Says:

Dose not matter to me what Brady does because we are still going to the SB with or without him.

  24. Hodad Says:

It’s not in Brady’s DNA to take a regular season game off. If this is his last year, he’ll want everyone of them. Besides, Brady would want to market himself outside the US. Talk of him not going is just nonsense.

  25. SB~LV Says:

The whole OL should do pre planned O’lay blocks the first time he drops back when returns to practice.
    In excusable ….

  26. Lesko_Brandon Says:

Just googled Brady’s whereabouts and found nothing. However, i found out that AB is talking S*t about Brady and Alex Guererro again. IS this guy ever going away. Trying to stay relevant ? I would guess

  27. tbbucs3 Says:

The division still isn’t going to be a cake walk. The Bucs will steam roll the Falcons and Panthers but the Saints with Michael Thomas back may keep the race closer than expected

  28. Listnfrmafar Says:

Obviously this was planned while he was retired and negotiated, whether it be family vacation or movie gig, how many of you have taking a new job and had to let your new employer you had a vacation planned and paid for? This is a good thing so all you whining spoiled biache fans can get a taste of how life will be without him. Ya the guy that made Bucs relevant again. How much money did he make your city and team? Did it ever occur to any of you that this may of been planned by the Bucs to build credibility for Bowles and see what he has going forward? No one in the organization is going to let that leak out. Don’t worry about Brady, he’ll show up and ready to play and you’ll all be kissing his arse again. Fair weather fans!!!

  29. Craig Says:

I’ll be good with it when he comes back, if he looks like he can step right up and win the last pres season game by 200 points.

Then I will think it is a good idea. Right now it is a conspiracy theory looking for traction.

I doubt Brady will be back next year, though he probably told someone last season would be his last. If he doesn’t come back again we need to spend a season to see if Trask can fill at least one of Brady’s shoes.

That is all that any other QB could do and Trask knows the game plan.

  30. DEEEMO Says:

Brady taking time off is no big deal. He is in his 3rd year and the main targets know him and he knows them. Worried a bit about the O line though…They will need to step up to protect him. Hainsey is in his 1st year as a center and hoping he is the right choice. It’s only been 1 preseason game so far so hope he picks it up quick. We shall see. But as I am always saying the DEFENSE wins games. Been proven over and over every year.

  31. RONALD MASIK Says:

#8 this ones for you. SUH.

  32. Pewter Warrior 813 Says:

Remember Cowherd is the one who broke the Brady to the Bucs news. His opinions are sometimes out there but he’s dialed in to a few teams.

  33. Netwalker Says:

Meanwhile Trask is getting critically important reps. And it seems to be paying off.

  34. '79 Defense Says:

“…so the NFL can market the sport to the krauts.” The krauts? Reminds me of Hogan’s Heroes. –Schultz, take this man to the cooler!

  35. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

I think a pre-arranged vacation is probably correct. But I do think it’ll affect things. He’s trying to get used to 3 new offensive linemen, a new RB and two new WRs. He’s missing a lot of practice days where he could be working with those guys. So it’s sub-optimal, but if it was a condition for him coming out of retirement oh well. 90% TB12 is better than 100% Gabbert or Trask. However, you don’t win Super Bowls by compromising.

  36. Bucsfan13 Says:

Brady has bean social media silent since his leave of absence. That should tell you all you need. He’s placating Gisele. I think he made certain promises to his family when he was retired and didn’t want to go back on his word. That’s understandable. Folks, Brady loves practices. It’s obviously a serious personal matter.

Bowles said Brady wanted to work with receivers to develop chemistry and he did that earlier in camp. He’ll be back to work with them more. Moreover, the starters aren’t playing, so what’s the point? Brady also can’t help the OL block better. Our so called clown OL coaches are responsible for that development.

  37. Bucswild813 Says:

His yacht got delivered. That’s all there is to it.

  38. Listnfrmafar Says:

Homer you are 100% correct. I guess it’s payback for the coaching staff compromising the week xof the Rams playoff game.

  39. Biff Barker Says:

The OL is inexperienced, not inept. Time and reps are the only answer.

+2 on getting sick of the Brady soap opera. He didn’t want to play in Tampa anyway.

  40. Pewter Power Says:

First ever game in Germany uh yea Brady would never miss that headliner

  41. Miller5252 Says:

This is just dumb. You don’t know what he’s doing, so compare it to a 150+ baseball season or 80+ basketball season? This team almost lost multiple games last year to crappy teams that Brady was able to pull out. You telling me the Glazers are willing to drop this much coin to possibly lose games and get a crappy seed or not make the playoffs?!?! No way this goes down the way he’s thinking

  42. PassingThru Says:

Fine, let’s compromise: inexperienced and inept.

    Tretter & a legit LG

  43. geno711 Says:

In the end, I would put Joe and Colin Cowherd in the same group.

When they make a strong take on NFL football, they are usually correct.

However, both of them throw a lot of crazy topics out to create interest.

Those topics are just made to create more traffic. It works.

  44. Buczilla Says:

I’ve always felt that we have been damn lucky to have Brady and I’ll accept him back with open arms since he gives us our best chance to win a super bowl by far. What he’s doing seems like absolute selfish bs on the surface, but I’ll reserve final judgement until we have more details. The whole planned vacation thing seems like the most plausible reason, but Brady sticking it to the glazers and Licht doesn’t seem too far fetched either. I honestly don’t give a flying flip either as long as he comes back, since I have no right to know his business anymore than he does mine.

  45. Listnfrmafar Says:

Buczilla, never thought it could be payback for not releasing him. Wow, the power move of ALL power moves. The whole Germany thing is based off Brady being there and like a fixed fight, beating the crap out of Seattle. Nice conspiracy theory.
