Devin White Wants To Play “Less Speedy”
August 11th, 2022Fourth-year savior Bucs linebacker Devin White is in the process of re-making himself.
White opened up today during his visit to SiriusXM NFL Radio.
It’s obviously he’s been thinking an awful lot about how to improve his Pro Bowl game. While listening, Joe almost felt like White was overthinking.
“Man, I don’t want to let my speed to be a factor,” White began. “You know, I want to be more under control and less speedy. You know, speedy can kind of hurt you sometimes. You know, because you run so hard to get to the play and then get to the play and you can’t slow down your momentum.
“So I want to just work hard early and make the right fits late in the downs, you know, wrapping up tackling. I’m going for zero missed tackles this year. Lavonte [David] did it [in 2019], maybe missed one tackle and I’m trying to get on his level with that.”
Damn, did David really go through the entire 2019 season without a missed tackle? Incredible. Joe’s going to look into that.
As for White, he’s got great coaching and mentors around him, but it feels a little dangerous for him to try and dial back his speed.
Yeah, Joe gets that it’s situational, but speed is one of White’s greatest assets.

Wise. Being in the right spot at the right time, rather than trying to get everywhere at once.

If his brain ever grows into all of those physical skills he will be awesome.
Glad to hear that he is going to focus on wrapping up and tackling. I was afraid that he didn’t know what that was.

I, too, think he’s on the right path.

That would be most helpful when he gets close to the QB. Slow down and hone in on your target, don’t overshoot.

Love his passion and intensity. Can get in his own head sometimes. Just read and react and get live45!

He doesn’t need to slow down as he approaches his target. He needs to anticipate the dodge. He could set up his target by aiming a little to one side or the other. Just enough to influence the direction of the dodge. Then on the last step cut to that direction for the slam.

He is a dufuss

I like it. Will see if he can back it up. Dude ran around with his head caught off last year
Ran by the opposing guy so many times

I’m pumped to read this . What he means is he doesn’t want to over react, be more like Lavante. If he said this, he’s not going to be slow, but let brain and instinct work together. Nice job DW45.

just like a fast receiver, you have to know how to change gears at the right time. If Devin figures that out, he’ll be that much more lethal

SB~LV … ‘He is a dufuss’.
Just on a recommendation, if you’re going to insult someone by calling him a DOOFUS, at least spell it correctly so you don’t come off looking like a dufuss.

SB~LV Says:

He is a dufuss
He’s a 237 pound dufuss who runs a 4.4 40

Get em D White. Hopefully, he becomes intellectually better at diagnosing the offense like Ray Lewis. This will allow him to be own time versus very early. The 318 rooting for you!

Isn’t speed his game?
August 11th, 2022 at 6:31 pm
DW lacks brain power!! He has all of the tools except between the ears.
August 11th, 2022 at 7:32 pm
He’s only talking about not overrunning plays, getting there under control and making the tackle. He’s not talking about not using his speed. Is anybody really that stupid?
August 11th, 2022 at 10:00 pm
Just by DW saying what he said, tells me he has the smarts to go along with his athleticism. I’m a critic but I will give props where they are do. DW45 is on his way now.

I get it! He’s working on being less speedy. Me, I’m working on being less good looking !!

Hallelujah! Exactly what the doctor ordered. He got Kwon Alexander disease last season, glad he recognizes it!
