Cynthia Frelund: Mike Evans (And His Hips) Will Dominate

Weird NFL stat unearthed.
Joe never heard of this stat, but Joe has a hunch select clothing-optional establishments could use this measuring stick.
Now Joe has to confess when owning Bucs season tickets and Rachel Watson and her galpals were in the corners of The Licht House, that hips did cross Joe’s mind from time to time. But Never in Joe’s wildest dreams would he ever think hips would be the centerpiece of a football stat.
But here we are.
Oddly enough, Joe learned of this strange stat from NFL Network’s resident stat queen, Cynthia Frelund. And it has something to do with Bucs stud receiver Mike Evans (no, Joe never thought of dudes when thinking of hips).
It seems Evans excels when his hips aren’t facing the thrown football. Who knew? Joe learned this in a piece typed by Frelund where she thinks Evans will ball out this year and lead the NFL in touchdown catches.
Tom Brady has connected with Evans for 13 touchdowns of 10-plus air yards since 2020, the most for any QB-WR duo, per Next Gen Stats. NGS also credits Evans with 113 catches since 2016 on passes with an expected completion percentage of less than 50 percent, leading the NFL. Computer vision shows that Evans has been able to catch the most passes (84) when his hips were not facing the ball since 2016. Red-area usage, especially with Rob Gronkowski’s retirement, and some teammate injury concerns really drive this TD projection.
Joe understands we live in an age where if you can’t slap a GD number on something it’s deemed by the self-anointed intelligentsia as worthless. Just look how this crowd has fully destroyed baseball.
But tracking a dude’s hips to a football? It might be time for some to find a hobby with their idle hours if they are sitting around hatching nonsense like this.
To the larger story here, Joe is on board with Frelund’s guess from her “models” that Evans will have a helluva season.
There is a hip ratio one-liner here that Joe is just going to leave alone.

I guess I’m confused. Just about every route on the tree would theoretically have a receiver’s hips not facing the ball except for maybe a curl or a dig. Mike is still pretty good at those too.

OF COURSE ME13’s hips are going to be facing away from the ball when JaMiss is throwing sliders out there. The athletic ability to pivot and rotate in space to grab the ball out of the DBs hands is the only reason JaMiss wasn’t pushing 40 picks every year. Hey Jameis how bout a back shoulder throw? I can believe her hips could be dominating. As a fellow Midwesterner put it… it would hurt so good. As far as receiver’s go, Mike Evans is great. But I never really paid any attention to his hips. I’d have to be paid as part of a job as a receivers coach to do so.

Yeah Captain… but Joe needs to get some new Frelund pictures. Pretty soon it will be like seeing the pictures of Rita Marino on an article from the 60’s and 70’s, when we know she doesn’t look like that now. LOL.
