The Real Dunkaneers

July 28th, 2022

Bucs GM Jason Licht.

Joe gets acid reflux just thinking about it.

When Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht was lured from the Cardinals by new franchise shot-caller Lovie Smith in 2014, Licht joked that summer that the 6-5 triplets in the passing game, Mike Evans, Vincent Jackson and Austin Seferian-Jackwagon, were the “Dunkaneers.”

Catchy name, but it never really stuck because the three never developed into what Licht and the Bucs hoped for that season.

Evans is still here and someday will be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Joining him now are tight end Kyle Rudolph (6-6) and receiver Julio Jones (6-3), whose long arms and athleticism help him play much bigger.

So perhaps the handle “Dunkaneers” can still be pulled out of mothballs and put to good use.

Just think now of what Tom Brady has for red zone targets, in addition to 6-5 Cameron Brate and others: Damn, that’s a quarterback’s dream: lots of dudes who can each outmuscle smallish corners and go up and get it.

Julio’s athleticism isn’t much more than Glennon’s at this point.

No way, leave that spit in the past.

Gimme some “speed in space” and let’s “siege the day” and be “Tennessee ready” when we play the Cowboys week one.

TBBF said it best….5 receiver set….Evans one side, Jones the other for the outside routes, Godwin, Gage inside, and Perriman focusing on slot (remember, we go slow with Godwin for now).

We could run this whenever we felt like it and win that one every single time as long as everyone is firing on all cylinders….then Godwin at slot when he’s fully ready? Man please! And of course, if we keep Miller, talk about taking the top off a defense with him and Perriman while someone rests….this is gonna be fun. Brady is gonna have a blast with this setup.

What an addition to the receiving room, which means we can absolutely be sure that Godwin will not return until completely healed. Note: some say he (Godwin) is on track to be COWGIRL READY! I’m still a firm believer that at least 1 undrafted free agent receiver makes the final 2022 roster and 1 or 2 stick on the practice squad! This group of receivers will be awesome to watch!!

  9. Dooley Says:

Calling Mike Evans “Godzilla” back then was kind of accurate though.

Let’s not jinx things by getting too giddy
TB is one drop back at practice from retiring in Miami

  12. Wild Bill Says:

Lots of talent now for Brady to throw to. But who gets the ball to these receivers if Brady goes down? That is the Bucs weakest link. No Brady no SB. Also the Bucs are light on backups on both offensive and defensive lines and at linebacker. Injuries at these three positions could become serious problems. Bucs are loaded at the skill positions, light elsewhere.

@Joe…everytime you reference Austin Sefarian Jackwagon I literally laugh out loud. It’s so fitting and true! That has to be my favorite of all. Keep em coming Joe.

ASJ really was a total jackwagon.

    Thanks. 🙂
