Leonard Fournette Calls BS On Weight Report

July 18th, 2022

“TB, that’s about as accurate as Antonio Brown getting a vaccine.”

TMZ Sports was quick with the screen grab from Leonard Fournette’s Twitter account.

Yesterday, Joe shared word of the local Friday report claiming beloved Lombardi Lenny was about 260 pounds when he showed up for Bucs mandatory minicamp in early June and coaches were irked by his weight gain. Fournette played at under 230 pounds last season.

ProFootballTalk.com elaborated today noting that the guy who made the statement, pay-per-view TampaBay.com writer Rick Stroud, also said Friday that Fournette was “about a donut shy of 260” and didn’t look like an every-down running back.

Well, Fournette took to Twitter to call BS this afternoon.

The Bucs’ Super Bowl hero scolded Stroud, “No I weighed 245 [in June]. Y’all say anything.” Fournette accompanied that statement with a picture of himself and Stroud’s comment overlaying it.

It’s unclear why Fournette took his comments off Twitter, but TMZ captured them.

It sure would be fun if Fournette’s next social media post this week is video of him weighing in at 235 or less.

Not really a good sign that this discussion is even going on when training camp is just around the corner. If Lenny was actually in shape and ready to go, he’d be posting his workouts and weigh-in on Twitter. He’s not.

  2. PassingThru Says:

We will find out soon enough as camp is about a week or so away.

Not only did Fournette look fat, if you look at his jersey you’ll see the outline of a waistband. Those are girdles that overweight players use to help reduce weight. I remember them back from my high school days, overweight kids playing OL/DL would wear them because they thought it would help burn off their excess baby fat. I doubt they worked, it was more of a placebo.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Good….fake news pi$$ed Lenny off……….after he too to humongous ASJs….he went from 259 to 239………just a couple of salads away from 235….

  4. teacherman777 Says:

Vita Vea needs more snaps at RB and FB.

Devin White was a badass RB too.

Imagine Devin White lead blocking for Vea?

Or Vea and Devin White lead blocking for Fournette in the wildcat?

Vea, White and Fournette in the backfield at the same time?

Thats 900 pounds of pure rage and muscle!

I want Vea as a RB at least once per game!!

    Why the F not???

Have you seen his high school highlights???

    The guy is smoooooooth!!!

  5. Rod Munch Says:

I’m not convinced that the wear and tear of staying in top shape year round is actually a good thing for bigger guys. Not saying to be a slob, but there’s being in shape and being in NFL shape, and so long as they’re not letting themselves go, I don’t think it’s a huge deal. He’ll lose 20-30lbs in training camp if he needs to. That’s also the way football used to be played, then guys like RBs had longer careers. For other positions like WR and corner, then yeah, you need to be in elite condition all year round.

In any case if he’s not motivated or not in shape, then Rachaad White is going to take his job. The more film I watch of him, the more impressed I am. I think he can pretty much step in day 1 as a three down back and take the job, he just needs to be able to pass block since keeping Brady healthy is the teams top priority, and betting on a rookie for that is risky.

But I think Fournette will be just fine – and if not, RBs are a dime a dozen.

  6. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

I think Lardo Lenny or Lard A$$ Lenny has a nice ring to it. Hopefully a Superbowl Ring.

  7. Pewter Power Says:

No need to respond to anything or even post photos, he’ll be seen very soon at training camp.

  8. GOB Says:

I’d love to be wrong, but it looks as though Lenny literally got fat and happy. Backs don’t often get the kind of deal Tampa gave him. This is his third contract, correct? I betcha Brady is more pissed than the coaches. After all, he talked Lenny out of a deal with the Patriots. Glad New England didn’t land him. Shedding that kind of weight, in that heat, is a soft tissue injury waiting to happen.

  9. Allbuccedup Says:

Must have been a big donut!

  10. Bird Says:

    Scotty in fat antonio

    😂

Lard as$ lenny is pretty funny
    “Stand by me” nickname

Anyways …playoff lenny will be fine. As someone that has lived in Florida their whole life. Playing real sports in august and september will smack you across the face and gut real fast. Those guys prolly spend a good hour a day on the crapper. 😂

  11. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

How much of his 3 year contract is guaranteed?

  12. Dewey Selmon Says:

Like I said yesterday, I just saw a pic of him at a shoe selling. He looks fine. This will be a thing up until the Dallas opener and they’ll talk about it.

  13. ModHairKen Says:

    Spot on Rod Munch.

  14. Delusional Intelligence Says:

One of his workouts from the beginning of July. 245 looks about right….

  15. Jeff Says:

Rick, Rick, Rick. Damage control time. You don’t have the team’s back, then that’s all you’ll get.

  16. Oxycodomns Says:

    Limping Lenny by game 3

  17. Buccos Says:

I’m reminded of Walter Payton’s off-season training program running up sand dunes and stadium steps. He was probably in better shape then than during the season. I like Fournette but he will never be confused with Walter Payton or Barry Sanders. Whole nother level

  18. WVBuc Says:

Once upon a time, after a particularly aggravating article or tweet by Rick Stroud, my eyes caught something that seemed fitting considering his work and his locale.

Taking his name as a word jumble, Rick Stroud reveals Citrus Dork.

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Lenny contract……3 years 21 mil…..12 mil guaranteed…..

Yeah, too bad we guaranteed him 120 million dimes.

  21. Duane Says:

Let the man get his grub on in the offseason. No way he can keep 260 on while running the football in July and August. Stroud loves to be the bearer of bad news for this team. Not saying he is misinformed, I just think he is too on brand with being the guy that leaks the manicured gossip from team back channels.

  22. GOB Says:

Most backs are like toilet paper. You use the roll, and flush. LF is a different breed though, or at least I thought. He went from balls bouncing off his head, to the most targeted back in the NFL. They aren’t winning playoffs games without a great season from him. Contrary to popular belief, Brady can’t win titles by himself anymore.

  23. Goatfarmer Says:

Any of you moes believing Stroud probably go to those zoom calls with the Flat Earth Society. Please.

  24. David Says:

He’ll be absolutely fine as long as he’s 235 or less

  25. steele Says:

It wasn’t exactly a convincing denial. Let’s see what happens. I think his extra weight would be acceptable if—and these are big ifs—he is conditioned, is working with trainers to transform the pounds into power and he will somehow become a true power back, slower but stronger and more of a sledgehammer than he was. I put the chance of this very low, for a finesse guy.

  26. Rod Munch Says:

sasquatch – It’s not my money, and if you can get another RB off the scrap heap for min wage (and you can), then you add up the salaries and you’re still not paying all that much. The Bucs have shown how you can move around the cap so long as the owners are in win now mode and willing to spend cash, so it’s not going to be a big deal in any case.

  27. kyle Says:

Comrade Stroud up to his old games again… This clown will do anything to sink the buccaneers.

  28. adam from ny Says:

    #BuffetLenny lining up behind #TomGravy

  29. Hodad Says:

It used to be reporters printed facts. Like if you say a player is about 260 back it up with a pic of him on a scale that says 260. If not just say the player LOOKS over wieght. I lost all respect for Stroud a long time ago. Who, where, what, and when. Like Joe Friday always said, just the facts mam.

  30. BuddhaBuc Says:

Let’s not forget that if he is powerlifting, that alone will add at least 5lbs of muscle in the off-season which is a good thing.

  31. Buczilla Says:

When I consider the source (Stroud), this story about Lenny’s weight is as relevant as the editorial page of that trash newspaper called the Tampa Bay times.

  32. Wild Bill Says:

He has enough time before the season starts. But wish he was more careful in the offseason.

  33. DBS Says:

The fish wrappers are about as good as they always were down there I am sure. Full of BS stories before they get the real truth anyway. My dad used them in his body shop to mask cars for painting. That’s what they were worth.

  34. Bucsfanman Says:

Lenny has been a consistent player since taking the starting role from pouty, sideline-stepping-out Rojo. One might argue he was the most consistent and even further, “clutch”, in our SB run. He has consistently gotten better as a pass-catcher and is still young for a RB.
Call me an “optimist” because I have faith in Lombardi Lenny!

  35. Wild Bill Says:

@Bucsfan Yup, way too early to bury the guy. Plenty of time for a big guy like him to shed some extra pounds. Bet he already got the message and is chowing down more fruit and veggies!
