Tristan Wirfs No. 7
June 4th, 2022In his list of the top-25 players 25 and under in the NFL, Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports only had two Bucs.
Yesterday Joe noted Benjamin’s highlight of Devin White. Now, Joe reveals Tristan Wirfs at No. 7.
Buccaneers OT Tristan Wirfs (23)
Redraft the 2020 class, and Wirfs probably isn’t making it out of the top five. Sure, he mans the right side rather than the coveted blind-side spot, but few men have had a more direct hand in Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay resurgence. A premier title-winning pass-blocker who’s still growing, he’s exactly the type of lineman you plug into your lineup expecting 10-plus years of Pro Bowl protection.
Joe was talking with someone the other night and made the following bold take after a few beers: Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht, if the following players stay healthy, may have drafted two Hall of Famers.
The first is Mike Evans. The second? Wirfs.
Now it is way, way, way early to start ordering a bust of Wirfs for Canton. But this guy is insanely good. Only entering his third year, Wirfs has already made the All-Pro team once. That’s impressive.
If Wirfs can stay healthy — keep an eye out for his ankle injury that he chose not to have surgery on — the sky is the limit.

Joke.

Potential for more hall guys. White, Winfield, Godwin all has a shot if they continue. JTS could be a 100 sack guy eventually. And Marpet could have been with more longevity, though guard is hard. Licht

There are Six players under 25 better than Wirfs? I image a few of those are Qbs. It will be interesting to see this list.

I would say our best 1st rd pick since Sapp and Brooks. If he plays in that Rams game, we probably win! That’s how much of a difference he makes. We sure hit the jackpot with that pick. Thank you Mr. Lihct.

The “blind side” is overrated. Wirfs is the best player from that draft.

This shlub is knocking Wirfs for being a right tackle. Simply put, Wirfs is better at his position than the lesser players placed ahead of him are at theirs. It doesn’t help Wirfs that he plays for us either since most national dudes have an ingrained bias against us.

Wirfs has the tools to play consistently well enough to make the HOF…..health is the only variable.

HUUGGGEE
Contract in his future!

Licht had not much to do with the pick. He was the one left over out of the 4 top tackles. Wonder he would of picked if he had the pick of the litter
June 4th, 2022 at 10:11 am
Georger. As true as that is it’s not the way it works. Licht will get historic credit for that pick despite that fact.
June 4th, 2022 at 10:23 am
Plus I believe Licht traded up to take Wirfs. So a lesser GM would have stood pat and let another team swoop in and get him
June 4th, 2022 at 10:30 am
I’m sure his ankle is nothing to worry about
June 4th, 2022 at 11:06 am
If he’s not hurt for the Rams game Bucs win that game.

There is a reason the Bucs haven’t restructured Smiths contract to creat more cap space. The reason, Tristan Wirfs will be our new left tackle when it’s time to re-sign him

Georger…
Don’t be that guy trying to discredit a top 3 GM!! Licht has gone wonders for this team.

A lot of good names on the list but Micah Parsons at 16!? Too low. Also, Lamar Jackson ahead of Joe Burrows? No. (Splitting hairs because they sit at 2&3, but still). Them two and Herbert along with WRs Justin Jefferson & Ja’mar Chase are the only ones ahead of Wirfs. That’s reasonable ( although I’d drop Jefferson to 6 and move Chase and Wirfs up one each).

Licht is not all that. Stop blowing smoke up his butt Bucs homers. He has the best recruiting tool in Tom Brady so he looks decent….

Wirfs clearly the best tackle from that draft.
Won a Super bowl and made ALL pro.
