Julian Edelman Teasing A Return?

June 16th, 2022

Not finished recruiting?

Could Tom Brady be working his recruiting magic again?

For the past year or so, former Belicheats receiver and little brother of Bucs quarterback Tom Brady, Julian Edelman, has been forthright saying his playing days are behind him.

Is that changing?

Per Jenna Lemoncelli of the New York Post, Edelman recently was asked point-blank if he would return to football and perhaps join Brady (and maybe foot-rubbing Rob Gronkowski) in Tampa Bay?

Edelman didn’t exactly say, get lost.

“I don’t know, we’ll see,” Edelman said when asked if he’ll return to play in the NFL with his former teammate, Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady.

“That’s called a little teaser. We’ll see. We’re staying in shape but you never know. But I’d probably go back to the Patriots. I love the Patriots. Foxborough Forever.”

Yeah, but if Edelman returns he won’t be in the running for a Super Bowl with the Belicheats and he won’t have Tom Brady throwing him passes.

Why does this pique Joe’s interest? Well, the Bucs receivers corps could be stronger. Former Bucs defensive tackle and current BSPN talking head Booger McFarland said Chris Godwin, who is rehabbing his knee from offseason knee surgery, may not be ready until after Thanksgiving.

And then newcomer Russell Gage came up with a mysterious injury in underwear football. He still hasn’t practiced with the offense in a team-organized setting. And last week Brady was adamant that because Gage is hurt, h has a lot of work to do between now and the start of training camp to hit the ground running on opening day.

Edelman, having played with Brady for 11 seasons with the Belicheats, would have no such learning curve with chemistry.

The timing of all this is very interesting to Joe.

Most of you readers don’t know Edleman like the Patriot trolls do. If he can still play? And that’s a big if. He brings a whole new toughness to the receiving core. The Pat’s have never lost a SB he started in. It could be for real then this will be Brady’s swan song, the big 3 will all retire together.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We keep hearing about Godwin not being ready until thanksgiving….all based on Booger’s speculation.

And….here’s a question…..if Gage is injured how is he going to “have a lot of work to do between now and training camp” according to Brady

  7. Mike Says:

If Edelman could play, it would be with the Patriots. We all know that.

  8. Demetrios Says:

Did I miss something or did Booger become an orthopedic surgeon in the past year?

  9. Kentucky Buc Says:

Edleman can get open double teamed in a phone booth.

  10. Ultra ClodHopper Says:

This would break the heart of a friend of mine that’s a pats fan. He says Edelman is the only Patriot that would hurt him if he played anywhere else. Kinda want it to happen just for ornery’s sake. 😈

  11. Alvafan Says:

The guy has been treating Bucs fans like toys since he retired. Don’t fall for the drama. It’s all concocted to make us suffer.

    Julio

we do not need juan edelman in the building

  14. PassingThru Says:

Edelman’s knees are trash. If there was anything left in the tank, he would have returned to New England as they had either the worst or second-worst receiving options (WR + TE) in the NFL.

At this point, I would imagine he has two objectives. First, he needs to keep his name in circulation for endorsements. He did a television commercial, but I don’t think it was catchy. Second, he needs to keep himself ingratiated with the New England fans and franchise ownership. I think those two points completely sum up his interview comments.

  15. Goatfarmer Says:

Fred Biletnikoff is considering a comeback, along with Mike Ditka. Both are interested in joining Brady and the Bucs.

Jerry Rice coming out of retirement!

    Please. Make it stop.

  16. Thadeus Says:

Why do you call them Bellacheats ? DO you have proof ?
    I didn’t think so.
Time to let Godwin AND Gage go. Gage will be Antonio Part 2
Eldleman won’t play here I figure. Like he said, if anywhere it’ll be New England.

  17. LOL Says:

Quoting Booger McFarland is a bad business decision Joe. LOL

  18. Listnfrmafar Says:

It appears there are many orthopedic surgeon’s on this site. His knees are shot??? He had one bad knee, who is to say after a season off he can’t still play. In the Pat’s/Rams SB, McVay and his staff had no answer for him. Has Evan’s or Godwin ever been a SB MVP? Didn’t think so.

  19. Mort Says:

Lol @ Thad carrying all that water for the patriots. Really come off as a true masshole. Uninformed and hyper sensitive.

  20. kyle Says:

id rather see what darden and the boys can do holding it down until godwin gets back.

  21. kyle Says:

if there is money for edelman, lets go get a back up linebacker and pass rusher

  22. kyle Says:

i know this is stupid, lets trade our beloved gator backup qb for mayfield to ride the bench for a year??? love fantasy madden football!!!

  23. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Edelman has nothing left. Move along.

  24. Buc1987 Says:

Thadeus…you know nothing about our team.

You Pats fans can go to hell.

  25. Capt.Tim Says:

Amazing what a year off can do for a player.
Brady and Edelman were playing catch earlier this year.
Sounds like they were talking . . .
Edelman, Gronk, and Brady winning one last Superbowl together would be an Epic end to their legacy.

Just Wonder where JL will find the money to pay them?

  26. WiscoJoe Says:

Love Logan Hall and will always believe good teams are built inside out but Christian Watson was sitting there at number 33.

  27. JimBuc2 Says:

    Adam Humphries 2.0 Hard pass
    Go Bucs!

  28. BelleGladeBuc Says:

The Bucs need another WR, especially with Godwin rehabbing and Gage’s current injury.

If Edelman is healthy, in football shape and able to play like he did for the Pats, which is a big “if”, then if he wants to play for the Bucs it’s a no brainer that the Bucs should sign him.

I and many others on this site have been asking/begging for another good WR for TB12 to throw too.

Edelman was a terrific WR and there’s no need to criticize Evans for not being a Super Bowl MVP like Edelman was.

Mike Evans is the only WR in the history of the NFL who has ever had 8 consecutive 1,000 yard seasons. Evans did that with such HOF QB’s like Mike Glennon, Josh McCowen, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Jameis Winston throwing him the ball.

ME13 is a future first ballot HOFer.

  29. Dooley Says:

The void in Edelmans’ knees where the cartilage used to be says otherwise

  30. Irishmist Says:

Speaking of Adam Humphries, it looks like he is still a free agent. He probably has more left in the tank than Edelman.

  31. fern Says:

    latest on OJ Howard

Howard’s 6-foot-6, 250-pound frame stands out on the practice field, it’s also evident that “his movement skills are well below what Knox brings to the table.” Specifically, Howard’s route running has jumped out: “Howard has not been quick in and out of his breaks, which could hamper his ability to deceive the defender and separate while running routes.”

  32. AbucAway Says:

In my view, Edelman made one of the greatest catches in NFL history. I think he could still put something together for Tom to work with on 3rd downs. And yes, as mentioned, the trio going for one last hurrah together would be epic.

With that said, Joe, have you been able to get answers on Gages injury and what that means for our beloved Bucs going into training camp? Is the organization being closed mouth about this?

  33. Buczilla Says:

I’m fine with Edelman if he can still play and I’m fine with any other receiver that still has something left. I really hope that Licht has a plan and that he learned his lesson after last year’s playoff run. The guys behind Gage have not proven themselves as number four receivers, much less number three receivers. Shoot the cannon, sound the alram, whatever, but Brady needs at least one more proven receiver or we are going to get shellacked in our first four games of the season. Mike is still a top three receiver, but even Rice got shut down from time to time and as much as I love Mike as a player, he ain’t no Rice.

If Godwin starts the season at 80% and Gage is good to go, then no need to panic, but getting another vet in here sure as hell would be wise.

  34. #99 Says:

The same idiots saying Julian has nothing left are the same idiots that said brink had nothing left..I laugh every time I read the make believe expert comments..

  35. steele Says:

Edelman’s knee is permanently trashed for football. Not gonna happen, unless he’s suicidal. He would a nice assistant to teach the WRs how to play slot, and TB12 would love having him around. That’s about it.

  36. Listnfrmafar Says:

Steele@ is another orthopedic surgeon. Congrats Joe you have quote the following of medical professionals.
