Gronk’s Agent Opens A Door For His Client’s Midseason Return

June 21st, 2022

Gronk’s agent, oily Drew Rosenhaus, is up to something.

Cue the circus music!

Rob Gronkowski retired this afternoon and already his agent, oily Drew Rosenhaus, is putting it out there that Gronk might change his mind around Halloween — if the plea comes from Tom Brady.

Joe supposes faux retirements are the new thing.

Per Adam Schefter in the Tweet below, Rosenhaus said he wouldn’t be surprised if Gronk plays this season. Either Rosenhaus is an ass (maybe) or this is all some sort of calculated game.

Whatever it is, it sure is interesting.

At this rate, ESPN’s Jeff Darlington will report that Gronk retired because he didn’t want to play for Todd Bowles, or the Bucs will trade with the Bills for underwhelming O.J. Howard and ride his first breakthrough season to the Super Bowl.

Agent talk, meaning he’s still hoping for a commission later.

    “Or next season”
    !!!
    Brady ’23???
Biggest news I’ve read in a while and deserving of its own story or two!

  3. GOB Says:

I’m sure it’s possible, but very unlikely. Getting his body ready would be hard. He’d need a few games to get into playing shape. You can’t do that in a weight room. He looks very thin. I think he realizes his body can’t take it anymore. He looked terrible against the Rams. He’s done

  4. Alanbucsfan Says:

The Bucs could sign L Toilolo for cheap if he’s recovered from his injury and have enough cap room to sign Julio Jones.

  5. Lesco_Brandon Says:

If Bucs reach the playoffs and feels a need for some reinforcements, i think that is the time Brady will call Gronk and do a cameo role. Gronk can no longer handle the grind of a full season. But I assure you , he will still be in a good condition when that time comes.

  6. SB~LV Says:

That would be perfect! If he is needed

  7. Infomeplease Says:

After those cracked ribs last season Gronk sure as hell needs more time off!! Hopefully he comes back around Thanksgivings for the playoff run!!

  8. GOB Says:

Alan I agree. I hated how licht approached the position in free agency. This is a Superbowl or bust year, and lichts answer was drafting two TEs. He should’ve seen this coming a mile away.

  9. BradyBucs Says:

FACE IT BUCS FANS: GRONK IS GONE FOR GOOD.

    He’s not coming back.

Once we use the free up cap money and starting integrating other TEs into the Offense plans, bringing Gronk back mid or late season would only be a distraction.

Time for the other TEs to step it up.

  10. Marine Buc Says:

Kudos to our GM Jason Licht for predicting the future and spending a 4th and 6th round picks on the TE position…

Brate, Otton, Kieft and McElroy will be a serviceable group.

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Finally, some actual Gronk news albeit just a teaser.

  12. PassingThru Says:

It wasn’t a good draft for TEs. That being said, don’t expect much out of Otton, it takes rookie TEs a full season or so to get up to speed.

  13. Hodad Says:

Take him at his word. He broke ribs, and punctured a lung last year. Bucs will sign a vet TE before camp. Gronk annouced now so the Bucs could get on with finding a good replacement. Still the team player.

  14. mark2001 Says:

Put yourself in the mind of Gronk. Wouldn’t it be just like him to retire now, and thirty some days from now, just as Brady did, decide to unretire? Hold on to your shorts.

  15. SufferingSince76 Says:

Yes, Joe, Drew Rosenhaus is an ass.

  16. mark2001 Says:

Let’s see… 39 days… that would bring him in about the middle of training camp. And then unretire. Oh Gronk… I can see you winding them up for the next episode of the Brady/ Gronk show.

  17. mark2001 Says:

    The man loves his drama….

  18. D-Rok Says:

When I heard Gronk retired: 🙁

When I heard Gronk may unretire at some point: 🙂

    My emotions: Eeeeeks!!!! 😉

  19. David Says:

Brate and the rookies. I feel expect Kieft to see a lot of time blocking.

What free-agent TEs are out there?

The only two I know offhand-
Kyle Rudolph who is an above average Blocker and above average receiver
    And
Jimmy Graham who is horrible at blocking but still a very good receiver

  20. Marine Buc Says:

    @ David

Kyle Rudolph and Jared Cook are the two best FA TEs available…

  21. geno711 Says:

    This just in.

Gronk wants B.A. back. He will come back only if B.A. becomes head coach.

You are just reading it on the internet now so it must be true.

  22. Proudbucsfan Says:

I bet Gronk is going to wait exactly 69 days and come back. He made a statement that Brady should have waited exactly 69 days and then that would have been mind blowing. I don’t remember who was interviewing him at that time but Gronk is the one to do it

  23. GOB Says:

Brady just responded to gronks “retirement” by repeating what gronks agent said. Between the two of them, they’ve made a mockery of the retirement process. If he didn’t want to go to camp, or play the first half of the season, why didn’t Gronk just say so?

He screwed the Patriots by waiting until all the other good TEs signed. Now he’s screwed the bucs in the same fashion. To tell you the truth, I’m done with his nonsense.

  24. Steven007 Says:

GOB, I agree. Retire. Or don’t retire. FFS. If he does come back it will complete the impression that they are making a mockery of this thing.

  25. Cobraboy Says:

Maybe he unretires in 40 days.

    This retirement drama gets old.

  26. Beeej Says:

If he quits NOW, he and Brady can’t enter the HOF together

  27. GOB Says:

They both like to pretend they are all about football. But, they’ve turned into complete drama queens recently. Just play football please. Anyone who thinks Gronk didn’t love the will he won’t he attention, is fooling themselves. They say they don’t pay attention to what’s being said. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

  28. Ash Says:

Screwed the bucs? Fans are ridiculous. It was a great couple years glad he decided to come play for the bucs. The bucs didn’t depend on the tightend too much before gronk won’t be the end of the world that they transition to life without gronk they still have a shot at the Superbowl with Brady this year can’t wait for the season to start go bucs.

  29. Bucsfan13 Says:

@GOB why do your care so much? You’re a Pats fan. Worry about them! You’re sounding like a real bitter Boston media personality. Brady was just having fun. I guess it’s not allowed with him.

  30. Bucsfan13 Says:

@Ash GOB isn’t a fan of the Bucs. I understand maybe following Brady because he meant so much to the Patriots franchise, but some Pats fans are so obsessive. Russell Wilson and Matt Ryan aren’t getting this type of attention from their respective teams. And for GOB to suggest that Brady isn’t obsessed with football anymore is crazy. He spends maybe five minutes making a social media post and now he doesn’t care about football? Get a grip! And his social media team are the ones who do most of the work.

  31. iamrhenry Says:

Maybe he would rather enter the HOF by himself and avoid being overshadowed by Brady.

  32. PassingThru Says:

No, Gronk is gone. I was quite confident that Gronk was coming back, up until about 10 days ago. When Brady sounded off on Gage needing a big year, that made me realize that Gronk was probably leaning towards retirement.

  33. #8 Says:

    Suh.

  34. Bucs Win Says:

Did Gronk turn in his retirement papers to the league? It’s not official till he does. The “or maybe next season scares me,” when Brady’s contract ends this season they’re both free agents and are free to go down to South Beach next season and make us look like the backwater franchise people out of the area think we are.

  35. Im not tired anymore we Super Bowl Champs!! Says:

What if this is all just a prank on Brady? Make Brady sweat like he laughed back at the barbershop he said he would do. I just hope Gronk comes back. Go Bucs!

  36. BigMacAttack Says:

If Gronk isn’t on the team opening day, it will be news. This is just more folly for the media clown show. I honestly don’t care either way. I think the Bucs will be fine and I’m anxious to see what these rookies can do, all of them. I think Licht found a few gems again in this Draft class.

  37. GOB Says:

If Licht knew he wasn’t coming back, I think he would’ve done more in free agency at the position. Brady has never been without a quality TE for any length of time. Remember this is his offense, not BAs or bowles. I thought that was settled two years ago after the Chiefs game.

  38. Mike Says:

Nothing to see here. Move along…

  39. Pewter Power Says:

Don’t want to see another mid season return where he has to work on his body and get ready for the season. Got love for gronk but stay retired

  40. BucsfanFred Says:

Part of me wondered if gronk might only wanna play half a season or maybe even unretire after camp.
I’ve seen a couple of fellow JBF commenters muse about it randomly so I know I’m not the only one.
Ill gladly take half a year.

  41. steele Says:

Let’s be honest. “Realistically” guys like both Brady and Gronk, at their age, and with their histories, they should have retired a long time ago. Brady is not “realistic”, he’s insane, and he loves the game more than anything. Gronk, a goof and a walking hospital file even when healthy, is more “realistic”. Not so in love with the game or the grind, and looking at plenty of easy opportunities in civilian life, including a hot girlfriend (who I suppose isn’t pushing him to play anymore).

    See ya, Gronk.

Now here we are. I’ve been afraid of this scenario since before the draft. Waiting for Gronk has never been wise. They could have made a move for a veteran early, regardless of Gronk. Didn’t do it. They could have drafted TE higher in the draft, but chose Otton lower down. Hope that works out. And I hope Ko surprises everyone and smashes people.

Like the situation on DL, TE is very uncertain. Brady is without yet another security blanket, and the team is short another weapon. Super Bowl run? It’s looking worse.

  42. Rod Munch Says:

Gronk doesn’t want to be out there in the August heat. Let Brady work his magic and don’t panic you morons.

  43. steele Says:

It doesn’t matter if it’s Gronk, or Brady, or anyone else. You’re in or out, and a team cannot put anything on hold. Preparations and training are now. Commitment is now.

One of the better free agents should have been signed earlier, regardless. There are none left worth very much.
