“We’re Watching Film Of Them Right Now”

May 20th, 2022

A few weeks ago, the Buccaneers defensive backs started a specific study program.

Hopefully-on-the-rise veteran cornerback Dee Delaney talked about this on the Saturday Morning Inspection YouTube Show.

Delaney was asked about the Bucs being focused on beating the Rams, and whether it reached the extreme of Rams posters on the wall and things of that nature. There’s no team focus on the Rams, Delaney said, but he did note that the defensive backs already have begun studying Saints film and Rams film.

“Our cornerbacks coach, he told us, ‘Hey, why wait until the season starts? Why not watch now? Let’s try to get the upper hand,” Delaney explained.

Joe loves the focus. It may be hard to retain May study and apply it to a game in September, but Joe expects great notes are being taken and overall this shows a hunger that the Bucs will need to win it all.

Delaney added that he expects Todd Bowles to demand more from the defense this season since he has become head coach — more emphasis on big plays and dominance.

Watched this video last night, and to hear Delaney saying that the CB room is scouting opponents in May was refreshing to hear

  2. Bird Says:

Yup saints and rams. Two talented teams.

    Got to do it!

  3. UKBuccaneer Says:

Just read an old piece where Brent Grimes was whining that he was being asked to play a certain way, that he didn’t like being told to get off his ‘phone at halftime, that the coaches messed up his whole mindset.
The whole attitude of this current team is different than those dark days, and I LOVE it.

It has to become second nature, your schemes. That just takes time. So no time like the present, games are won or lost long before you ever set foot on the field for gameday. Talent without the prep is unrealized potential, which is painful.
Talent plus the prep, gives you a chance to win the championship.
As we know TB12 is example #1 by many because of his Maniacal persistence in practice and off the field in his preparation.

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

Let’s not confuse activity with results.

Let’s not confuse activity with results.

Focused fire cuts through steel, wild fire will burn up a forest, but not cut through steel.
It is all about how you prepare, not just activity.

  7. Infomeplease Says:

Biff, results will happen no matter how much prep is put in. Great results start with great prep!

  8. Listnfrmafar Says:

BA is gone and the players and coaches work ethic has already changed. GO BA, AWAY!!!

  9. Jeff Says:

Yeah, because football is soooo complex. The public is brainwashed as to the level of complexity associated with Pro Football schema. These aren’t Doctors or Lawyers practicing within their complex fields, they are athletes with lousy grades playing a game that children play. They are athletically gifted, but let’s not pretend their work is complex. It’s just physically difficult to do.

  10. Buczilla Says:

LOL, all the studying in the world ain’t gonna help this crew that we have at corner. SOS! Mr. Light we need another starting corner in the worst way. Please send help!

  11. SufferingSince76 Says:

Listnfrmafar, you continue to talk BS. We still wait for something from you other than BA sucked. Seems your life revolves around him.

  12. Goatfarmer Says:

Tod should be forced to watch the final 30 seconds of the Rams playoff game. Over and over. And over. And over. And over. And over and over. Then, show him a photo of Cooper Kupp and ask him who it is.

  13. Dooley Says:

    @Jeff
you used way too many words and sentences to inform us you know nothing about the mental aspect of football w/o actually saying so

  14. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Jeff,

    You are not wrong.

  15. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘Hopefully-on-the-rise veteran cornerback Dee Delaney’

Uhhh, time-out on the ‘veteran’ Dee Delaney Joe. He got ONE defensive snap playing with Jacksonville in 2018, then added another THREE def snaps with Washington in 2019. Wasn’t active with anyone in 2020, but then got 213 def snaps with us last year. Some of our defensive backs have gotten 217 def snaps in 4 games, much less over 4 years.

Chances are reasonable that he’ll make the team this year, but more than likely it’ll be as the 6th CB (we’ll keep Davis, Dean, SMB, Cockrell & McCollum for sure IMO). I like Delaney, and hope that he makes the team, but he’s far from being a ‘sure thing’ at this point.

  16. Bucs Win Says:

I can’t wait till toe hits leather!

  17. Buc1987 Says:

Listnfrmafar …sure the players had terrible work ethic winning that Super Bowl and all…

    What…A…Goober.

  18. Brandon Says:

Nope. It works. Studying film in May helps you understand tendencies and tells in other teams. When the season is upon us, you are just trying to see what they do from certain formations and down and distances. It’s when you’re watching film in your leisure that it’s easiest to catch on to tells and tendencies.

  19. Bucsfanman Says:

’87- You left out 13-4 too!

    Turr-a-bull!

  20. Jerry R Jones Says:

Film study right now can only help and it’s refreshing to hear. We just might see some real savvy from the CB’s this year.

  21. SlyPirate Says:

    I 100% LOVE THIS!!!!

I’m seeing a team that is committed to winning. They are willing to acknowledge their weaknesses and commit to challenging and changing themselves to become better.

If this is Bowles leadership (vs BA), this is AWESOME STUFF. Take note. Everyone should apply this philosophy to their own lives.

  22. MadMax Says:

I remember watching JW stuffing his fingers in his mouth…eating a w or something….i heard he likes big things in his mouth…eh, whatever.

  23. Hodad Says:

We already know what happens when Brady has a good defense. Great defense, championship!

  24. Listnfrmafar Says:

Jeff must be a relative of BA’s. You don’t need a masters degree to be a welder or electrician that doesn’t mean you’re not great in your trade. To think because you are athletic and played the game for a long period of time one can simply play with or against the best players in the world is moronic. Coaches play a chess game and the players that have perfected their position are the queens, bishops, knights. Their is enormous preparation physically and mentally and studying is imperative to win. Jeff not everyone has to be attached to their notebook and pocket protector.

  25. Aaron Says:

Who Dat Who Dat Dat you said was good teams bird thats right lol you know it you can say you a Saints fan go ahead
