Tyrann Mathieu Details His Close Relationship With Tom Brady

May 13th, 2022

It appears two guys who got in a testosterone-fueled Super Bowl screaming match 15 months ago actually were — and are — very good friends.

Joe’s referring to new Saints superstar safety Tyrann Mathieu and Tom Brady.

As the Super Bowl story goes, per former Bucs running back LeSean McCoy, Brady big-time celebrated his touchdown throw to Antonio Brown. Mathieu was the defender in coverage on the play. Mathieu let Brady know the celebration was over the top and showing him up, and Brady sort of apologized on the field and said it wasn’t personal. Mathieu replied with a hearty F-bomb, and Brady shot back with his own F-bomb because Mathieu didn’t accept his response.

Mathieu was a guest on The Rich Eisen Show yesterday and was asked about now being in the same division as Brady.

His reply was about how close they are and how much they communicate.

“I just talked to Brady like three days ago, you know, just congratulating him and everything. He’s such a good dude. Yeah, I’m looking forward to [playing against him in the NFC South]. Absolutely,” Mathieu began.

“He always reaches out to me, you know, and I try my best to always reach out to him.

“I think football aside, this is a good dude. And this is a guy that has a lot to offer; you know what I mean? As far as teaching you about life off the field, whether it be business, whether it be taking care of your body. You know, he’s just a great resource to have. And I’m more so impressed that guys like him take the time to entertain little guys like me. Because God knows he doesn’t have to entertain anybody. You know, but for him to kind of take time out of his day to just always reach out to always send a congratulations or always be someone of great support, I think that says a lot about his character.”

Mathieu said Brady is very approachable and has offered him the opportunity to bounce anything off him when it comes to business, training and more, in addition to their personal chats.

Joe was surprised and not surprised to hear this all at the same time. The real Brady is a guy fans and media don’t see.

Good stuff Joe. These guys are fiery competitors. Sometimes they go overboard. I really wish the bucs would’ve signed the honey badger.

  3. Jor Mantegna Says:

They appreciate the ultimate competitor in each other. Can’t say I blame them!

Bucs need to beat the Saints this year no way around it

It’s really hard not to like Tom Brady. He is the goat in NFL history but he comes across so humble and takes his time for everyone possible. It’s all about work ethic and mindset.

That’s cool for them I guess. I just really hope the Bucs finally kick the snot out of the Saints this year.

Yeah they’re such good friends that, sore loser Mathieu took a page out the race baiters playbook and after the game, claimed that Brady hurled a racial insult in his direction during that screaming match. Quickly recanted his story however when he was made aware that NFL films had complete audio of the encounter, and the whole story was even more quickly swept under the rug. You know, cause that’s what real friends who just happen to not share the same skin color do to each other, it’s all in good fun.

Brady is humble when it’s to his advantage. If you want the real Brady, go watch the 30/30 on the tuck rule. This is a relatively new thing with Brady. During his 10 year Superbowl drought, he went through a lot of self doubt. Remember, the early NE Superbowls were won largely on defense. He was much more of a game manager back then. As long as he minimized his mistakes, they were going to win. His last Superbowl with the Patriots was won because of running the ball, and defense. If he wins again this year, I think the same will prove true.

    GOB,

Well said and I like your sentiment. I just watched that too and thought along the same lines while watching it. It’s really well done too. I enjoyed the watch.

@GOB You are totally wrong. I don’t know him, and neither do you, but from what I’ve we’ve sen in docs and interviews. the man has been in the league for over 20 and not one current and former teammate have said anything negative about him. That counts for something. Players can spot a phony. The all say how he genuinely cares. Hell, James Harrison singed with the Pats with the intent on hating Brady. He said was one of his best teammates and said he’s not a phony. I always judge a person’s character on what people who have actually interacted with them say about them. I’m a lifelong Bucs fan and Michigan alum. Go Wolverines! I’ve followed his entire college and professional career. His opponents even speak glowingly of him. You still can be a killer on the field, and still be a caring person off the field. “Psycho Tom” is saved for the field.
