Will Tom Brady’s Draft Influence Be Felt?

April 28th, 2022

Bucs GM Jason Licht

The big night is here and Joe is convinced that the man wielding the most influence at One Buc Palace will see it realized over the next 48 hours.

Joe’s talking about Tom Brady.

Put down your Sunny Key Lime from Big Storm Brewery, Joe is not saying general manager Jason Licht is powerless, but Brady has a ton of influence in various ways.

Does Licht want to be known as the GM who didn’t go all-in to give Brady every chance to outscore every opponent — and to stay healthy in what might his final season?

The reality is that Licht simultaneously can play to maximize Brady and, potentially, lure him back for another season with a crazy-loaded offense.

Or Licht can draft a cornerback and a defensive tackle in Rounds 1 and 2, and never know what might have been had he secured a blue chip interior lineman and an electric receiving talent.

Yes, there is room for compromise. And Joe just wants a good hit-the-ground-running rookie. But wouldn’t it be fun if Licht bellied up to the draft bar later and picked an offensive player for Brady?

And then texted him, “We got a lot more juice than Miami, Tommy.”

All in on Daniel Faalele in the 3rd or 4th. Huge road-grader OT that could play Guard and protect Brady and pancake DT’s.

So why did we draft trask in 2nd round last year?
