Versatile Logan Hall

April 29th, 2022

New Bucs DT Logan Hall.

So the Bucs have a new defensive tackle. Let’s take a look at what the Bucs got.

It seems Hall is very versatile. He can play various positions on the defensive front in one of the better AAC teams in Houston. Dane Brugler of The Athletic has Hall as his No. 7 defensive lineman.

SUMMARY: A two-year starter at Houston, Hall played primarily at three-technique in defensive coordinator Doug Belk’s multiple fronts, also lining up at five-technique, nose tackle and as an edge rusher. Arriving in Houston as a spindly, 220-pound project, he showed significant physical and mental maturation the past four seasons and took a significant jump between his junior and senior seasons (head coach Dana Holgorsen: “He’s one of the best defensive tackles I’ve ever coached.”). Although he played primarily inside in college, Hall has the long levers and foot quickness to be an impactful pass rusher when given a runway off the edge. He has the body flexibility to bend, dip and attack from different angles but must continue to develop his anchor and shed strength, especially when his pad level rises. Overall, Hall has some tweener traits and lacks consistency, but with additional coaching, he can be a matchup weapon thanks to his athletic versatility, body length and disruptive nature. He projects as an NFL starting edge rusher who can slide inside in subpackages.

Now Joe wonders how many snaps this guy will get? Joe was all about this year and is hoping so too are the Bucs. So can this guy have an impact this season?

He looks like he is blowing up dudes that have 50 pounds on him.

  2. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

He is big, strong, and fast, with a great motor.
Not as long arms as you would like, but still great value for us.

  3. Rod Munch Says:

Versatile is what you say about a 5th round white LB who isn’t really good at any one thing. Not something I want to hear about a guy selected at the top of the 2nd.

I personally have no idea why the Bucs fell in love with the guy, I’ve heard him as being the pick for a while now, and I don’t get it – not when you trade out of the 1st. If this was the #60 pick, I’d be OK with it. I don’t think he’s bad or anything to be sure, but his comparison is William Gholston, and that’s not a guy who you spend a 1st rounder on.

But we’ll see, I’m not going to be negative on the kid because I think he was overdrafted, hopefully he makes me look like an idiot for doubting him.

  4. SB~LV Says:

    Joe . Yes he can
    It’ll be fun to watch

  5. MadMax Says:

Great pick….I was pushing for him….we wont be disappointed!

    Welcome to the Bucs Logan.

  6. HC Grover Says:

Sounds pretty good. Not bad. With the Brady Bunch all we need is a not bad defense

  7. Defense Rules Says:

He’ll play inside some no doubt, but I still don’t see him as a DT. IMO he’s JPP’s replacement, and will be used in a similar way.

  8. Posey99 Says:

    I’m happy with it

  9. Wild Bill Says:

Sorry Munch but the dude is not white. Speed off the edge sounds great. Hope he is more of a force than the rookie pass rusher we drafted last year.

  10. CalBucsFan Says:

Wow, he likely would have been there later in the round too, strange that they passed up on the No. 1 OLB, ILB, TE & RB for the 7th best DE.

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Licht falls in love with Senior Bowl players who excel……this is not an exciting pick but probably a very good one……very little risk.

  12. SB~LV Says:

Wild Bill I glad you brought that up so I didn’t have to highlight RN’s ugliness

  13. Killian Says:

Is this pick an admission that JTS hasn’t lived up to expectations?

  14. Buccos Says:

In hindsight I would certainly spend a 1st rounder on Will Gholston

  15. Buccos Says:

He looks like he can get after the QB!

  16. SB~LV Says:

Killian no it is nothing of the sort. Building for the future, defense was gassed and not able to get off the field

  17. Anonymous Says:

Some guys here should be a GM. They are just so intelligent and also can predict the future. It’s a great pick.

  18. Austin Says:

    Will Gholston 2.0

  19. Bucs Guy Says:

Like him. Now get McBride in the 2nd.

  20. Dean Giusti Says:

Me too Rod. I’m questioning this pick big time but I hope he balls out too. I trust JL and our scouts.

  21. Steven007 Says:

I know it doesn’t mean anything, but my draft guide had this guy as the number two DT. They also had Wyatt as the number four DT. Projected
Hall to go in the first or second round. Of course that means nothing if he doesn’t produce. I defer to the experts here and our guys have drafted pretty good recently.

  22. Greg Says:

Regardless of your political stance… this Hall kid needs to get off social ASAP!

  23. Coburn Says:

Keep seeing people suggesting he’s gonna play olb. I really don’t think so but could be wrong. The ones comparing him to Gholston seem more on the mark to me. I’d assume our dline right now would look like hall-vea-gholston unless we sign Suh back then he can rotate in with Suh/Gholston. Right now we basically have nobody on the other side from Gholston so makes too much sense

  24. MadMax Says:

He’ll be getting pressure like JPP was doing, 6’6 and those long arms, aint much gonna get past him.

  25. Red-sparrow Says:

Who’s removing my posts? Let the truth be told. This has been a horrible past 2 years of drafting from Jason Licht. He just keeps giving Brady the same old geezers to win with. And gets called a genius for salary cap magic. But where the hell are the new young impactful acquisitions on either side of the ball?

  26. sasquatch Says:

The Bucs rotate the DL anyway, so this guy will see significant time.

  27. Yucs2Bucs Says:

Not a fan of this pick ?? Don’t get it and could have gotten the best LB, but maybe they trade up to get Dean

  28. Rod Munch Says:

Wild Bill – I was doing an example of what people will say about the ‘try hard’ white LB, they’ll call them versatile. I’m saying I don’t want to hear that word about a guy who just went #33 overall. He might be versatile, but generally there is an elite trait that gets focused on for 1st round picks.

  29. Rod Munch Says:

Greg – That’s funny, had to look it up.

  30. Buccos Says:

Him and Anthony Nelson and Gholston. We’ve got tall lineman to throw past. It will be interesting

  31. 813bucboi Says:

    Austin

    Bingo

    GO BUCS

  32. SOEbuc Says:

If he has the power off the line quickly could be great for JTS speed to the QB.

  33. Greg Says:

Rod- Not that tough to “look up” a simple Google search of his name and his social posts pop up.

  34. Ed Says:

Not Will Gholston, Will is a run stopper, Hall is a pass rusher

  35. Rod Munch Says:

Greg – dummy, you do know that isn’t him, right, just someone with the same name? Not too hard to verify by just checking the bio, kiddo.
