“This Is Who I Am Now”
April 22nd, 2022Joe was moved just short of tears hearing this.
Damn, the fourth episode of this season’s In The Current has been particularly moving. Congratulations to the Buccaneers’ production team for their annual Hard Knocks-style series at Buccaneers.com.
Fans remember wide receiver Cyril Grayson’s big fourth-quarter touchdown catch against the Jets in January. It was a must-catch for Grayson, in part because the throw was precise and the Bucs were trailing with just 15 seconds remaining, but also because Grayson couldn’t afford another deep ball drop.
Grayson’s first big opportunity from Tom Brady (in 2020) was a good throw that hit Grayson in the helmet because he didn’t get his hands up in time. It was an embarrassing moment. And he was grilled on live television and skewered on social media. (See Twitter video below).
But Grayson didn’t back down. Heck, he had been cut seven times before arriving in Tampa, so adversity was nothing new to him.
In this episode, Tom Brady is part of a feature that praises Grayson for being a guy who took a moment of adversity and turning it into a positive. Whereas for many players, per Brady, their football life falls apart after a big, bad play.
“Eighteen months later, after a lot of hard work and a lot of commitment, that play was not going to define him and he was going to make up for it,” Brady said.
“This is who I am now,” Grayson said.

NICE!!!!!!!
April 22nd, 2022 at 3:12 pm
We need him this year.
April 22nd, 2022 at 3:14 pm
It’s good to see him have that confidence. Best part was Brady and the 2 birds say f&@k you TV! 😂 Think belicheat would have let that go in air?
April 22nd, 2022 at 3:21 pm
Cyril … Every day is a new day. What you accomplished (or didn’t accomplish) yesterday doesn’t mean diddly. Now’s your chance to show ’em what you got. Hang tough; we need you.
April 22nd, 2022 at 3:28 pm
Good for him!!! Now add AB back and Deebo. We be stylin! Evans, AB, Deebo, Grayson, Perriman. LFG That is five all time receivers.
April 22nd, 2022 at 3:30 pm
Grayson building on his success from 2021, makes our WR room a little bit more dangerous. One of the many underneath guys on the roster that get looked over when loopy offseason analysis is flooding our sports media feeds.
April 22nd, 2022 at 3:34 pm
Good stuff. This guy needs to stay healthy for an entire season. A tall task for a converted “track and field” guy…
Same with Miller and Perriman. I hope we can stay healthier next year – 2020 was rough.
April 22nd, 2022 at 3:37 pm
I like Grayson – and Perriman too. We aren’t so bad off at no. 3 WR until Godwin is ready. We have good WR depth already, imo.
April 22nd, 2022 at 3:38 pm
In other news – TB12 restructures his deal and creates @ $9M of cap space for the Bucs…
Plus we signed a DL today.
April 22nd, 2022 at 3:41 pm
Joe. Is he under contract this year? We need him.
April 22nd, 2022 at 3:42 pm
“Cyril”
“He’s Cereal.”
“Cyril”
“Cereal”
LOL…
April 22nd, 2022 at 3:43 pm
Grayson can take over the AB role – not entirely, but from a speed perspective. He has improved a lot and now the team must put him in position to make plays on a regular basis.

HC Grover Says:
April 22nd, 2022 at 3:28 pm
Good for him!!! Now add AB back and Deebo. We be stylin! Evans, AB, Deebo, Grayson, Perriman. LFG That is five all time receivers.
……………..
You sir, should be banned from commenting after that one alone.
April 22nd, 2022 at 3:47 pm
Marine Buc did he sign an extension? If so lets trade Trask to some poor quarterback desperate teams but not to anyone on our division.
April 22nd, 2022 at 3:51 pm
@ Allbuccedup
It appears his contract is just for one season with a few void years added to spread the cost. Also a clause which prevents the Bucs from using the franchise tag on him next season…
April 22nd, 2022 at 3:53 pm
SB get a brain. Insults are not good. A constructive objective dissent would be apropo but you people always want to BAN others opinions. Take a hike.
April 22nd, 2022 at 3:58 pm
@ HC
LOL!!!
You just cracked me up…
“SB get a brain. Insults are not good.”
Best line of the day!
April 22nd, 2022 at 3:59 pm
Marine Buc that franchise tag is very interesting
April 22nd, 2022 at 4:04 pm
Stretch those hammies out good Cyril.
April 22nd, 2022 at 4:10 pm
@ Allbuccedup
I agree. If TB12 plays next year it probably won’t be here…
I’m just happy to have one more season of glory.
April 22nd, 2022 at 4:42 pm
FYI
Grayson is on the second year of his 2-year contract and will receive $895 in 2022……he will be a FA in 23…..
April 22nd, 2022 at 4:53 pm
AB had his chance with the Bucs and Brady and blew it. Screw him. May he rot in a fictional inferno before any team in any league pays him another nickel. He had no consideration at all for his teammates.
April 22nd, 2022 at 4:54 pm
Me too Marine Buc have bought more jerseys, shirts and sports memorabilia the last two years than in the last twenty. Great to enjoy the ride.
April 22nd, 2022 at 6:11 pm
That is PRECISELY why I love that kid.
I am rooting for you man and hope you are with the BUCS for a long, long time.
April 22nd, 2022 at 6:13 pm
HC Grover, while Deebo would be a great acquisition, you know we can’t afford him. He’s looking for a big payday.
April 22nd, 2022 at 6:27 pm
You read this story about the interaction between Brady and Grayson and then the story above about Brady helping the team free up money for other guys, and you see one big reason he has 7 rings. Players love him and will run through walls for him
April 22nd, 2022 at 6:43 pm
I don’t buy it, the transformation into a dependable WR…
April 22nd, 2022 at 8:06 pm
No reason not to think he could have a breakout year this next season, he has speed and getting chemistry–matter of time.
April 22nd, 2022 at 8:11 pm
A track guy with hands is rare but hands and injury free due to the dewatering nature of how they build, train and get fast is almost unheard of ???
Cy , dog you are an NFL receiver and you must be hydrated and a touch slower at all times or you will not be an NFL receiver . Truth!!!
April 22nd, 2022 at 9:06 pm
Other than the big game ending play, this guy showed some good route running and more than just straight line speed. I know he is only going to be fourth or fifth on the depth chart at receiver when Godwin gets back but I really hope he takes advantage of his opportunities because he looks like he has the potential to be really good
April 22nd, 2022 at 9:14 pm
Just get better on special teams. If you need to count on this guy at all to catch passes from Brady, then we’re all porked.
April 23rd, 2022 at 12:42 am
The biggest story being overlooked is how does Joe only get 10 likes on his tweet? Maybe Joe’s friends don’t tweet? Maybe most of Joe’s friends have been banned?
April 23rd, 2022 at 4:56 am
it seems tommy b has gone from loving scotty miller to loving cyril grayson…
these tings happen
April 25th, 2022 at 11:34 am
NEEDS to stay Healthy!!!! He can be a difference maker with that speed!
