Tampa Bay Beginning To Be Home Away From Home For Washington Players

Bucs TE Cade Otton.
It seems Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht and his staff love Washington. The university.
Through the Licht regime the Bucs have drafted high-profile players from that school. That and Auburn. Today, Licht added to the list when he selected Washington tight end Cade Otton.
So Otton will join fellow Huskies products Vita Vea and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka on the Bucs roster. Otton said he is tight with JTS and the fact he will reunite with old teammates is icing on the cake for him to come to the Bucs.
“First of all, it’s amazing to join some of my former teammates,” Otton said. “I think it says a lot about them that the Bucs trusted me enough with how well they’ve done there and how big of a part of the culture they have been.
“Joe [Tryon-Shoyinka] is a great friend of mine and we have had a lot of battles in practice. Obviously, a really great player – tough, physical, athletic. I think he would say we had a lot of great battles – that I’m tough, that I have good technique, and try to get after it a lot, too.
“I’m really looking forward to getting with him again and having more battles. Getting to be on the same team again is super awesome.”
From what Joe has read and seen of Otton’s highlights, he seems to be a combination of Luke Stocker and Cam Brate, perhaps a little more of a field-stretcher than Brate.
Otton can block like Stocker could and he isn’t much of YAC guy, like Brate but also like Brate, Otton has a knack of getting open and finding open space.
Perhaps subconsciously, the Bucs drafted a Washington tight end as a way to atone for Austin Seferian-Jackwagon.

Washington, then Minnesota, Houston and Georgia? Just off of the top of my head. Will have to check this situation out.🕵🏼♂️
I love Vita Vea! Had “football lust” for him and was eleated when we drafted him. I hope these other guys work out well, also.
Otton is good since we could not get McBride like many of us wanted. Love that we drafted another blocking TE in a late round. Next year we will be hunting for somewhat of a Gronk replacement. Of course, we won’t have TB either. We will be in rebuild mode for sure.
The future is now, however. We have another great chance for another Lombardi in February.

I think this is a solid pick, and we can count on great run-blocking, and about 25 catches per year, maybe more if Gronk is not here this year or maybe next. I like his potential as a solid contributor, but I doubt he has a high ceiling. I hope I’m wrong.

Au contraire! It is too early to judge this draft. I have spent the last couple of hours reading about the new guys and listening to what other’s are saying. There is much to digest. I don’t know how long that is going to take for me
I had some disappointments because people I wanted were not who we got. I wanted Logan Hall, Trey McBride and James Cook among others for example.
My confidence or optimism for this season is based mostly on what we had in place before the draft. I assumed Suh and Gronk would both be coming back.

It does appear that the Bucs will listen to the current roster, about what teammates they left behind in college for the next years draft.
