Tom Brady The Recruiter

March 18th, 2022

Now this was out there Wednesday afternoon but Joe is willing to bet Bucs quarterback Tom Brady has not let up since.

Albert Breer, who has a lot of New England contacts, which means he has decent inroads into the inner workings of Brady, Twittered that Brady was pushing Bucs free agents in order to get the band back together again.

Anyone believe Brady, who always plays full-court press, would dial back pushing to help stock the Bucs’ roster?

We already know he sold Russell Gage into coming and he allegedly has been trying to coerce Julio Jones to come to town (Joe has no idea if Jones has anything left in the tank).

Joe believes the Bucs have three key pieces to worry about. Playoff Lenny is one, and Ndamukong Suh and Will Gholston.

Playoff Lenny and Gholston might be coaxed into returning by Brady. Suh? The guy is a mercenary. Excellent player. Dependable. But a mercenary. Unless he gets paid, fuh-getta-bout-it. So if the Bucs want Suh back, they will have to cut him a check, that simple.

Anyone know licht’s plan when it comes to the DL? Right now they have vea and who else?

  2. Dano Says:

Pass rush, pass rush, pass rush!!!!

  3. Bird Says:

    Makes sense joe

Cause gronk is a given at this point

And to think we still have people on here who think brady really has no value or persuasion to the state of all things bucs. 😂

These moves are pretty amazing to date …after last week thinking we were going into the hot garbage territory. Cowboys weaker/. Karens packers weaker. I mean its us and rams. And add saints if they get watson (but that also means saints will be giving texans prolly 2 defensive studs in trade)

Agree suh is a wild card paid mercenary at this point but he has young kids and has been in florida for 3 years straight now. He is business man. He knows cost of living here so much different then douche states. And no income tax does matter even though players play in other states, especially if live here full time

Suh for 6.5 is a dealio

  4. #8 Says:

    Akiem Hicks?

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’d say the three are Lenny, Gronk & Suh or Gholston at this point…….and really, do we have the money for Julio Jones…..what the 8th WR?

  6. Breadwinnerbob Says:

Shaq vita nelson gill tyron are on roster .. only missing suh jpp and mcclendon.. no need to rush it

  7. SufferingSince76 Says:

Can we go ahead and put Tom’s statue in front of Ray Jay now? What this guy has done for Tampa Bay is legendary.

  8. #8 Says:

Brady is pissed and watched rams create an all star squad sort of mid-season.
He can play that game better.
He is flexing and won’t stop until #8.
He doesn’t care about $ and his buddy gronk doesn’t either. They’ll be on the cheap and done last.
Brady and Licht still working more magic.

  9. Casual Observer Says:

Gronk is priority number one. Surely.

  10. HC Grover Says:

If they leave Licht will just plug the hole ing the hull with someone else. As they leave. Licht is the DMO…damage control officer.

  11. Bucsfanman Says:

Suh may be a “mercenary” but he’s worth every penny. IMO, his production and leadership will be the most difficult to replace if he goes elsewhere. Conversely, I believe that we need to get younger on that DL.

  12. THOMAS PFALZ Says:

Ryan is a great signing. Need Lenny bad. Vaughn is not & never will be A #1 RB. Lenny does it all. Most important signing after Gronk. as far as Suh & Gholston goes. Let the chips fall as they may.

  13. PassingThru Says:

I’m with #8, after Gronk the priority should be Akiem Hicks, providing that Hicks is willing to take a bit less money. He’s 33 or so, which means he isn’t facing a strong market. I’m not sure about his priorities, he could have stayed in New England for the rings, but he left for Chicago, either to get away from Belichick or play in a scheme that emphasized more pass rushing.

  14. Bilbo Says:

Regardless of how many great players are acquired, it all boils down to who remains healthy.

  15. SC. Bucs Fan Says:

Francisco you keep asking the same question every thread. We get your point.

  16. TAMPA BAY DEMON Says:

    ’79 Defense,,

Just wanted to shout out. Very sorry for mis-understanding one of your posts on a different thread.

I did not realize Stephen A had mispronounced Jason’s name.

Thank you for the clarification, Crickett Baker.

    GO BUCS

  17. Allbuccedup Says:

Sign Gronk, Calais Campbell, Lenny draft another defensive lineman, left guard, linebacker, running back and tight end. Trade pick #27 for another second and third rounder five picks in four rounds easy peasy when Bradys here.

  18. Sandman Says:

TB should sign zadarius smith and Will Gholston

  19. sasquatch Says:

Getting Gholston back should not be a problem unless they’ve decided to move on. He’s expressed a desire to remain in Tampa and he’s a no-brainer given his steady production and durability.

I continue to question paying Lenny. Still think he’s replaceable.

  20. Casual Observer Says:

I agree with Sasquatch. Good priorities. Gholston wouldn’t cost too much.

  21. #8 Says:

PassingThru (remember you from the Pulpit days!)

Hicks just seems too perfect with the Ryan signing & the Brady connection.
He’s made tons of cash, so would want to chase a ring on a Brady led team, warm climate, great D coach, etc.
It would be awesome. That dude with Vea & Suh…

  22. Defense Rules Says:

‘Joe believes the Bucs have three key pieces to worry about. Playoff Lenny is one, and Ndamukong Suh and Will Gholston.’

I was so happy to see you write that Joe (same priorities that I see). BUT … then you blew it by calling Suh a ‘mercenary’.

I couldn’t disagree more. He gave the lowly Lions 5 years, and then they wouldn’t pay him even close to what he was worth. So he goes to the Dolphins for the biggest contract (at that time) ever awarded to a DT. Just an indication of how really good he is. Gives Miami 3 good years, but they still sucked & didn’t want to pay him.

So off he goes to chase a ring with the Rams, who did pay him. Did very well there … for 1 year. Rams lost the Super Bowl (had been knocked out in Rnd 1 by the Falcons the year before) and they dumped Suh. It was the Bucs good fortune (2019) to sign him, and I give all the credit to Todd Bowles (look at their relationship prior).

Suh’s been with us now for 3 years, and has been playing for HALF what he was getting a few years before. Bucs rushing defense has been top-tier all 3 yrs (#1, #1, #3) and our defense has improved considerably (#29, #8, #5 in Points Allowed). A large part of the credit IMO goes to our Front, and a large part of that credit goes to Suh. Personally I think he’s found a home here, and those who don’t recognize his value aren’t looking deep enough.

  23. New England Patriots Fan Says:

There is still cap savings to occur in June and later in off season, Gronk has be told his contract and will sign later, the current cap and money has to go to players whom can’t wait till June to sign and they will go elsewhere.

My guess if once the team is to Bradys liking he will finally redo his contract to create the final cap space to bring on Gronk and maybe someone else. As all these moves seem to be 1-2 seasons, so Brady will be forced to stay 2 seasons unless he wins a ship right away.

  24. ModHairKen Says:

“Joe believes the Bucs have three key pieces to worry about. Playoff Lenny is one, and Ndamukong Suh and Will Gholston.”

    Could not agree more.

  25. Casual Observer Says:

NEPF – Hope you are right.

  26. Listnfrmafar Says:

Suh is a smart business man, he knows the value of no state income tax as well as any. He was your best Dlineman last season. Vea needs to play more snaps. McClellan is the invisible man.

  27. Francisco Guzman Says:

Defense still wins championship. Our d-line is in shambles right now.

  28. August 1976 Buc Says:

Suh has made 139 million by 2019, more money than any defensive player in NFL history at the time. Just add his last 2 years to that to know what the total is now, the boy knows how to get paid. Find a way to ink him to another deal. No one runs the ball on Suh, yes he is not a big sack artist, but a very solid player. Suh is most likely a first ballot a Hall of Famer 5 years after he retires.

    GO BUCS!!!

  29. Goatwatcher Says:

Lenny is first priority, but find a kick returner. Brady shouldn’t have to drive 80 yards on every possession.

  30. lambachop Says:

We need JPP, Gronk, Lenny, and Gholston. It’s up to Suh if we wants to finish his career with possibly another ring.

  31. Ash Says:

I’m at a difference of opinion Lenny I don’t think he is bad I just don’t think he is so outstanding that you cant move on from him I think they probably should to spend more on the dline. Would make a world of difference to get a little more pass rush from the defensive tackle position and not just run stuffing.

Dude, are you ok? It’s only March

  33. Your Mom Says:

Losing all three, Fournette, Gholston and Suh, would not ruin my day too much. Rather have them than not, but….

  34. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Tom the Recruiter was one facet of the G.O.A.T. that I had no idea about as I did not follow his career in New England closely. I was preoccupied with the Buccaneers.
