Report: Bills Plan Push For Rob Gronkowski

March 2nd, 2022
Gronk

Wanted man.

Bucs tight end Rob Gronkowski is a free agent. And he’s a wanted man.

Gronk grew up a Buffalo fan and has joked he’s not very popular there because he made a career out of torching the Bills.

Now the same team he flamebroiled year after year after year wants him, as the Bills are trying to get over the hump and make a Super Bowl. That’s the word from Tim Graham of The Athletic. He types that scuttebutt in the watering holes of downtown Indianapolis and in the corners of the Indiana Convention Center from NFL types is that the Bills are going to make a serious run at Gronk.

Word here at the NFL Scouting Combine is that if Gronkowski wants to keep playing, the Bills still are open to adding the Amherst, N.Y., native to their offense.

The Bills spoke with the surefire first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Famer last spring but discovered he wanted to keep playing with Tom Brady, who retired last month. Gronkowski re-signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for one year at $8 million.

There is hope at One Bills Drive that Gronkowski would be willing to finish his career in Western New York.Word here at the NFL Scouting Combine is that if Gronkowski wants to keep playing, the Bills still are open to adding the Amherst, N.Y., native to their offense.

Joe thinks this makes all the sense in the world. If Gronk wants to play football, he wants to win. The Bills have a real shot at the Super Bowl. The Bucs? Well, they will have a tougher road.

Joe is hoping Gronk’s girlfriend would rather hang on Clearwater Beach in December than scrape her windshield each morning.

Let’s see, Josh Allen or Blaine Gabbert/Kyle Trask? You likely know the answer if everything else is even.

C’mon Camille, use your power of persuasion!

    Bucconeers Collapseo.

  2. Gofortheface30 Says:

I’ll be cheering for Gronky Kong from afar. OF COURSE I’d want him back, but catching passes from Josh Allen, in his hometown, on a team that, at this point is in a much MUCH better position to win the Super Bowl. Makes too much sense. Tampa would need to trade for god damn Russell Wilson or Deshaun Watson if we have any chance at all at retaining him

  3. SufferingSince76 Says:

He can pay NY State taxes and freeze his butt off or he can pay no state taxes and play all year in Florida. Aches and pains are intensified in the cold. With mom in Ft. Myers, why leave?

  4. Mike Johnson Says:

Gronks tryin to hang on to see what we do at QB. I mean, Come on man, if you were a top flight receiver, Who would you choose? Gabbert or Josh Allen? The Weather is one thing. But winning football games is the rage. When it rains guys? It pours.

  5. magicbuc Says:

    Called that one early!

  6. Tim Says:

If the numbers are right, and I’m sure they will be, Gronk will be out the door. Thanks for helping us win another Super Bowl, brother. Happy trails.

I’ve said it a few times now, but I’ll say it again. We need to draft a TE this year. I do think now with Marpet leaving, we should draft trenches with maybe the first 3 picks, with whomever (OG, C, EDGE, DT) gives us the best value at that given pick. But a TE in the 4th could be something we should look at, unless we could get a value FA at the position.

  7. Listnfrmafar Says:

Tough one, he’s not getting any younger and it can get freaking cold up there. That would be a huge addition for Bill’s, Knox and Gronk? Plus he gets to kick Belichick’s ass twice a season not counting playoffs. I could see Gronk & Allen on a bender.

  8. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Born in Amherst NY, a Buffalo Suburb, Gronk would be A Hero in Buffalo, and have a real chance to win a Super Bowl.
Hate to see him go, but I would, if I were him.

  9. westernbuc Says:

Gronk was great for us. If we made a dramatic trade at QB it makes sense to bring him back. Otherwise he should be free to walk. And Buffalo would be a great spot

  10. Tackleblockwin Says:

Maybe Gronk wants to try to win SB with 3 different teams. I think only Matt Millen has accomplished that.

  11. cmurda Says:

Gronk & Brady’s long careers will be even more of an outlier soon. There is a paradigm shift with players now. The reality of the dangers playing in the NFL are apparent now. Guys are deciding to retire even when they are playing at a high level and not too old so that they can get out before CTE and other issues present themselves. Marpet is the latest example but there are several.

  12. sasquatch Says:

Gronk is obviously a #FloridaMan now. Stay in Tampa.

  13. SB Says:

HC Grover = a pissed off Medicated pete who changed his handle.

  14. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Gronk can’t stay unless a good QB is signed or traded for. Other contenders will pay the 7-10m/season for Gronk to catch 7-10 TDs and 800 yards with the understanding he will miss a few games a season to recover from injuries.

  15. Dewey Selmon Says:

Wish him the best. hope he gets another ring, and beats the Patriots in the playoffs along the way.

  16. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Makes tremendous sense. Josh Allen extends plays and Gronk is a playmaker.

  17. D-Rok Says:

Although one can discuss multiple reasons why the Kittles/Kelces/Pitts of the current TE landscape are the wave of the future, Gronk was/is the OG of a dominant TE – he revolutionized the position. Some say he is old/slow/lumbering, but yet he still routinely beats CB’s and gains separation. I think he still has a few years left to be dominant, if he wants to be. I hope it’s with the Bucs.

    GO BUCS!!

  18. Cobraboy Says:

I love the guy, as well as Brady, but I was never under any illusion beyond those two were short-term rentals.

Thanks for the great football, Big Guy!

Would love to have you back, but then I completely understand no Tom, no Gronk.

  19. Oneilbuc Says:

I like Gronk but if wants to leave than by . I can care less I would love the tight end out of Colorado State. I think he’s going to be ok in the NFL.

  20. Letsbuccinggo Says:

I wish Gronk the best I am not a hater like some of the other people one this blog.

  21. JimmyJack Says:

Gronk brought over in a historic trade made by Jason Licht……..and good time to mention, Licht has made several good trades with the Patriots. He mights even be batting 1.000 in that department. Licht might be the only GM, since to turn of the century, that can claim success trading with that orginization.

  22. Niles Says:

Each passing day my prediction of a rebuild gets closer and closer. If Gronk leaves the rats are gonna jump ship.

  23. Mayhem41 Says:

Uhhhh, Bills have Knox already. Gronk not going to Bills just to be a blocking TE. Fake news. Furthermore, Bills aren’t going to pay Gronk rate for blocking TE. Stupid story on so many levels.

  24. sasquatch Says:

I’ve kinda been assuming he’d leave. If he doesn’t wanna be here, good riddance, enjoy yourself elsewhere. We have a team to restock. We have to draft a TE anyway.

This is the chronic loser fan attitude^^

Believe it or not, I bet a lot of guys still like playing in Tampa for Bruce Arians. We’ll sign Godwin and we’ll continue to have one of the top receiving duos in the NFL. Gronk leaving won’t change that or most of the other players who have to decide if they’re going to stay.

  26. Listnfrmafar Says:

sasquash, we’ll see soon enough if your theory is correct. There are a bunch of FA that haven’t much hinted they were staying. Keep that optimistic attitude, you’re gonna need it.

  27. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Cobra

    Agreed. Short term rentals…

Thank goodness we won another Super Bowl.

That helps alleviate the pain of this team being dismantled.

  28. Bucs Guy Says:

I agree Joe. Gronk is only staying here if his girlfriend makes him. Just like TB12’s retirement.

  29. Alanbucsfan Says:

If Gronk re-signs with Bucs, 1 factor would be he believes there’s a good chance Brady will return sometime mid season. – And Brady would only do that if other options (49ers) don’t pan out, Bucs still have a good team and Brady still wants to play.
If Gronk signs with another team or retires, he probably thinks Brady’s staying retired.

  30. sasquatch Says:

Brady retired. He’s not coming back. All the speculation is ridiculous.

  31. Sc.Bucs fan Says:

I swear more fans on this blog want to see the Bucs lose more then they want to see them win. Super Biwl must have killed them. Losers.

  32. BelleGladeBuc Says:

    TB12 is done.

The Bucs own his rights, and if the Bucs choose to go with Gabbert and Trask and fix their cap problems, then TB12 can’t unretire and force a trade like Gronk did in NE. TB12’s cap hit would be minimal then. Arians and Licht have both said that nobody is willing to trade one of the top QB’s that they desire.

Rookie contracts and journeyman backup QB contracts are cheap and don’t stress a salary cap. That’s exactly what we had with TB12. TB12’s contract, Journey QB Gabbert and Rookie QB Trask.

Because of that most probable situation occurring, TB12 is done. If he unretires he would be forced to play for the Bucs.

  34. Jeff Says:

Get ready for YEARS of double digit losses. 4-13

  35. Delson Says:

Gronk is done. He cant survive a full season. Plus his best buddy retired. Appreciate what he did but we dont need an expensive old injury prone te. We need to balance veteran n rookie contracts.

  36. MadMax Says:

Hmmm….all good, we need cap space….hate to lose him but let him be part time somewhere else for the high dollars…..i hear he lives off his endorsements and other stuff…stashes his nfl money away….very smart man.

You’re not bright. Brady retired. Any non-moron would acknowledge they have to move forward and plan to be without him… Hanging on to a faint hope of a change of heart is the definition of being a loser. Fantasyland = loserville. I’m living in reality, dumbass.

  38. stpetebucsfan Says:

I like Gronk so I hope he retires. Quit while he still remembers who he is. He’s clearly HOF…more SB rings than he needs…wealthy…time to save his noggin!

  39. Adrnagy Says:

Give a guarantee that brady at 45 will last 17 games. Imo brady saw the schedule or opponents and said im out. Not saying hes afraid or whatever , but our schedule is brutal.

  40. adam from ny Says:

    i don’t think gronk is brady’s son…

i’m sure gronk speaks his mind to tom…

    he probably said:

“yo tommy man, wtf…you are fuggin’ everything up bro…just tell the wife to chill the f out and let’s rock and roll man…you know what i’m sayin’ tom”

  41. OffenseRocks Says:

Everyone loves Gronk and probly the Bucs cant afford him so will be fun to see him light up the skies in Buffalo with the great Josh Allen. Miss you all ready, Gronl!

  42. adam from ny Says:

just when gronky got comfy in tampa and officially became a warm weather guy, tommy pulls the rug out on the program…left his boy gronk blowing in the wind out in front of datz deli…

i wouldn’t be surprised if they will pay him up in buffalo like 12-15 mil, because he was having well over a 1,000 yard type season last year, if he got the games in…dude played almost half a season…

gronk is a perfect fit up there in buffalo if he wants the cold weather lifestyle again…he will go off there!

  43. adam from ny Says:

    gronk ain’t done…

    gronk is a clydesdale

  44. David Says:

Other than the fact that he would lose several hundred thousand extra due to taxes and the weather sucking ass, I really would not blame him to play his last year or two there. That’s his hometown and they have a damn good team.

Hopefully he holds off to see how the QB drama plays out and considers Tampa

  45. David Says:

    DELSON

And everyone else saying he’s done and should just retire, he is still damn good, is great in the red zone, and is like having another offensive lineman blocking.

  46. Listnfrmafar Says:

    Gronky Gone 🐒

  47. Nicholas716 Says:

BillsMafia don’t want him. We got Knox and he’s a dirty player
