Report: Bengals To Offer Ryan Jensen 3 Years, $39 Million

March 4th, 2022

Ohio-bound?

This is somewhat disturbing.

The daily newspaper in Cincinnati, The Enquirer, has staff on scene at the NFL Scouting Combine and noted that the first question asked of the Bengals’ general manager at his news conference in Indianapolis was about his leaky offensive line.

No surprise there; the Bengals’ O-line was rough, as quarterback Joe Burrow endured a beating for the ages en route to coming a few plays from a Super Bowl win.

So what about improving that line? Well, per a prominent former Bengals player talking to another one, the answer is Bucs center Ryan Jensen.

Former Bengals defensive back and kick returner Adam “Pacman” Jones said on the “Bleav in Bengals” podcast with fellow former Bengal Solomon Wilcots that he heard the Bengals are “gonna sign” Jensen, who will be an unrestricted free agent.

“I got some great news for you,” Jones said. “A little birdie said that (the Bengals are) gonna sign Ryan Jensen to a three-year deal for $39 million, which would be a starting center. I hope it goes through. It sounds like the little birdie is saying it’s almost a done deal.”

Joe realizes a lot of fans might read this and laugh, “Pacman Jones? Hahaha.” Yes, Pacman has more run-ins with the law that career pick-sixes. But the former All-Pro/Pro Bowl cornerback still calls Cincinnati home.

Joe waited on this story a couple of days to see if anyone from the Bengals or anywhere else poured cold water on it. They haven’t.

  1. kaimaru Says:

This is tampering, and if true, they would lose draft picks over it. Luckily this was reported by active players on the Bengals.

  2. tampabayallday Says:

    textbook tampering, do it.

  3. Todd Says:

If true, he should go eat. That’s a lot of incremental outdoor grills. Good on him. He’s earned it. Afraid it’s to rich for the Bucs’ blood. Methinks.

  4. David Says:

Well that would suck but also… If that’s the case, isn’t there tampering going on?

  5. Jeff Says:

Lol! I’ve told you free agents are going to get PAID this year. Well above normal. Bucs don’t have a prayer. They’ll keep Will Gholston. Yippee! A 5 win season! Ahhh, just like the good ole days.

  6. Anonymous Says:

I posted this on Monday, glad to see the news caught wind of it. I also said he has already agreed in principle on a 3 year $39 million deal.

  7. Thomas Edrington Says:

Bengals rising, Bucs, uncertainty…..Joe Burrow for Bengals, who knows what for Bucs….

  8. Marine Buc Says:

The Bucs could always match it and find a way to keep Jenson if they really want him to stay…

We will see if they like Robert Hainsey or not.

  9. Defense Rules Says:

Good for Ryan. He’s performed exceptionally well & he deserves a nice contract like that to go out on. Bucs better expect more of the same for Godwin, Cappa, Stinnie, Whitehead & Davis. Hey, maybe even Gabbert after all the positive vibes BA has thrown his way lately.

  10. Que5 Says:

That contract number is about right for Jensen. He’s balled ever since coming to the Bucs and should get paid. I think Bucs will consider matching that number

  11. Robert Says:

    been great having him, congrats!

  12. Tuddy Time Says:

Ohio state income tax will cost him $520k a year. Now that Marpet is gone, will the Bucs pay $12.5 a year. It sure would send a message to TB12 that they’re serious in keeping him upright. Perhaps singing Jensen, Cappa, and Godwin will convince TB12 to unretire. Joe needs to dig in to why Gronk is working out at 1 Buc. If he was leaving for another team, he could work out at his own gym in Buffalo or anywhere else. Perhaps Gronk has ‘intuition’ old TB12 may comeback after all.

  13. DBS Says:

Should have expected it if true as soon as BA opened his mouth. You are talking about starting who? See ya!!

  14. catcard202 Says:

Bengals is a good fit for Jensen…

  15. Proud Bucs Fan Says:

Bucs would have to pay more than the Bengals!!! Why would Jensen take the same money to lose in Tampa then to make that money in Cincinnati and win?

    Go Bucs!

  16. Jeff’s Daddy Says:

Jeff flapping his gums again.. 5 win season..lol
Definitely not a real bucs fan

  17. Listnfrmafar Says:

Do all you do gooders forget the tampering BA.did when smoozing Brady? Joe Burroughs going to be a happy man. Maybe Joe won’t make him use baby powder.

  18. Proud Bucs Fan Says:

Little birdy told me that if Jensen had to play one more year for bruce absent, that he would have RETIRED as well.

  19. Volbuc40 Says:

Can’t blame him if true! They have a QB that can win a SB, we don’t.

  20. WalkdaPlank Says:

Bengals were one good block on dirtbag Aaron Donald away from winning the Super Bowl, even with Joe Burrow being the most sacked QB in Super Bowl history. It’s a no-brainer they are going after Jensen, maybe Cappa too. They fix that line and they have a dynasty with Joe Burrow, Joe Mixon, and Jamarr Chase. Who wouldn’t want in on that action?

  21. Que5 Says:

    Nobody cares about tampering

  22. tampabayallday Says:

income taxes in Ohio will be the reason why he doesn’t take that deal.

  23. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I think he will take the money, and go to a better team.

  24. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Next man up…..that’s why we drafted Hainsey….we can’r keep them all….I don’t think we should pay that much….

If there is proof discussions took place…then it’s tampering…otherwise….gossip that eventually becomes true.

  25. Buczilla Says:

Bye Jensen, thanks for your mostly great years here. We’re not talking Dermontti Dawson here folks and I’m cool with him leaving and getting vastly overpaid by the Bengals. Licht has proven to be incredibly good at finding linemen, so I’m not sweating it.

  26. sasquatch Says:

We’ll see. Enjoy living in Ohio.

If it were me, I’d take 3 million less per year if it meant I didn’t have to live in Ohio.

  27. moderately_observant_fan Says:

Funny … those numbers are exactly what PFF speculated would make sense. Jones has no inside info; there is no tampering; this is pure air.

  28. moderately_observant_fant Says:

Funny… those were exactly the numbers PFF previously speculated would make sense for this deal. Jones has no inside info; these is no tampering; this is pure air.

  29. Cobraboy Says:

One wonders if this is a leak from Jensen’s agent.

  30. A Real American Says:

LOL It didn’t take long for the Cinderalla story to end.
Brady got a whiff of the Bucs deeply embedded, endemic culture of slacking and he was outa there.
Bucs turned back into a pumpkin almost immediately.
    It’s a Bucs life again!
    Thanks Brady!
I’ll look for you in San Fran or Miami

  31. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Cobra

I was thinking the same thing.

If Jenson’s agent is any good that’s exactly what happened…

    Lol.

  32. Anonymous Says:

Worst fan base in all of sports!

  33. Listnfrmafar Says:

I heard today everything BA is saying about holding Brady to his contract is BS. Brady took the year extention to help with cap space. He originally told Bucs 2 years and he gave that to them along with huge TV revenue, a SB and NFC South victory, basically made the Bucs relevant. If BA holds his ground Brady just calls Glaizers and say WTF, I gave more than I promised.

  34. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Every agents as soon as season ends starts searching for the market for their players. If he is getting paid that’s awesome for him as it’s likely his final deal.

As people said a good agent will leak information to drum up a market for their players.

  35. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Cincinnati will draft a Tackle, buy a centre and keep one tackle and probably draft or buy a guard. They have to protect their franchise.

  36. Beeej Says:

13 million a year, not bad for pro Bowl center

  37. Biff Barker Says:

Someone is going to pay this guy. He’s earned it. But absolutely agree it might be his agents whisper campaign. It’s their job.

  38. Beeej Says:

Stinnie can take over for Jensen, we resign Cappa, I don’t think the left guard is currently on the team

  39. Bojim Says:

American. Shouldn’t they play next season before thinking about a Bucs life?

  40. JimmyJack Says:

Im totally fine if Licht lets Jensen walk for more money. Mostly because if his age.

If Im Jason Licht Im looking at the free agents we got and thinking who can be here in 3-4 years helping this team compete for the Conference. Jensen dont make the list, along with Gronk, JPP or Suh. I would think about bringing any of them back but no thanks for a longterm commitment.

My priority would be on younger guys like Godwin, Whitehead, Carlton and Cappa.

This season could be similar to 2019 where it was kinda a evaluation year in Bruces first season. We came out knowing we needed upgrades at QB, OL, Secondary and Kicker…….Getting Fournette in August was the cherry on top.

Same formula this year and funny enough we will probably have the same list of needs as 2019…….except kicker if there is a football god.

    GO BUCS

  41. JimmyJack Says:

Oh and its not tampering. The is the sane time as last year when Bruce and Tom made a handshake deal. Right after beloved John Lynch told Tom to get lost.

  42. Leighroy Says:

Income taxes don’t stop players for playing on 25+ teams in the NFL. And no I don’t care to get the exact count, you get my point.

  43. sasquatch Says:

    @A Real Flag Waving Boob,

    1) Brady retired.
    2) Save your loser doom and gloom for when they actually play games.

  44. TBD Says:

  45. Tom Sumner Says:

fuk.. they are gonna get jensen and gronk.. wtf!?

  46. webster Says:

List wtf are u talking bout? BA tampered with brady? Not once did BA or licht bring up brady’s name before free agency. All BA said prior to free agency was he was going to look for what was behind door #2. Door #2 happened to brady when as joe says the free agency dinner bell rang. No analyst or pundit had the bucs as a landing spot for brady until it happened. Stop with the alternative facts. Please take ur dumb @$$ off bucs fan pages

  47. Niles Says:

When Brady retired I said the rats would jump ship. Sometimes I hate being right. The 2022 team will be a shell of the 2020 and 2021 teams.

    Indeed.

  50. Adrnagy Says:

Maybe marpet knew jensen was going to sign elsewhere. New QB , new center , cappa unknown.. h

  51. PassingThru Says:

Told you so. The Bucs had to choose between Jensen and Cappa. As Cappa is younger, he’s the better choice to keep.

  52. Delson Says:

Goodbye jensen. Goodbye gronk. Lets get younger

  53. sasquatch Says:

You had to know that signing Brady and Gronk might get us a Superbowl but also might shorten the window. Now people wanna complain. It’s a Bucs Life… fukkin’ loser fanbase. At some point you gotta pay the piper. I actually enjoy seeing them reload/restock and develop new guys. It’s not life and death ferkreissake.

  54. Mike Says:

This is definitely a play by Jensen’s agent to get his client more money.

  55. tbd’s Daddy Says:

TBD , after reading all these posts anonymous is correct ..you gtfu it really is a bad fan base. The season hasn’t even started and most have written the team off.

  56. JimbobBucsFan Says:

I’ve seen two of you say that Stinnie or Hainsey would replace Jensen at center. Could either of them replace Marpet if we retain Jensen and Cappa somehow?

We could be forced into more of rebuild by by our optitions at QB anyway. It is such a long shot it is almost inconceivable that “franchise QB”, Deshaun Watson, will be coming to us. So much has to happen. I thought TB was a long shot a couple of years ago, however. What do I know?

  57. sasquatch Says:

  59. SPARKY Says:

I agree, Pacman’s little birdie is Big Red’s agent. But I’m afraid the Bengals won’t be the only team after him. But I think that’s probably in the right price range. Hope he likes Tampa.

  60. Nutbucer Says:

Good for a decent comp pick next year

  61. New England Patriots Fan Says:

I’ve watched the combine, there are some some great options in the draft in first two rounds for Oline.

  62. New England Patriots Fan Says:

As I’ve stated earlier Tampa should call Tom and be open to trading him to any team not in NFC South for a first. Get that extra first and the and use the 27th and get Watson or get a foundational linemen and young weapon and under take a rebuild for 3y and attempt to win in 2025 with a star QB or Trask if he pans out.

  63. sasquatch Says:

  65. steele Says:

Look around the entire NFL. There is no place, no situation that fits what TB12 would want. He had to have seen it coming and decided wisely to hang it up.

The loss of two starting OL all by itself sticks a fork in the Bucs as a great option. It was a losing proposition even before that, with the veterans about to split, and issues (if any) with the coaches. He doesn’t want to spend years learning a new offense. He doesn’t want to deal with hostile coaches like pissy Shanahan. He doesn’t want to disrupt his family life and further piss off the Commandant.

He will spend months making and starring in “80 for Brady”, a bad movie in which he relives his favorite Patriot season, inserting a fictional comedy relationshp with Jane Fonda, Sally Field and other golden girls.

Offer him a top-heavy $15m for the fourth Ray year, $14m the second year, and $13m for a third year. With incentives.

A great Center is hard to find. Marley was barely acceptable at it, and he retired now…which cleared a good chunk of space.

  73. BelleGladeBuc Says:

    @New England Patriot Fan
    @list

    You two are a joke.

TB12 is done playing football because the Bucs will not be able to acquire a top QB who has a salary cap hit of between 30 to 40 million when talking about the likes of Watson, Wilson, Rodgers or Cousins.

TB12 needs that to happen to force a trade by coming out of retirement and forcing a trade as the Bucs wouldn’t be able to commit that much salary cap capital to one position.

The Glazer’s couldn’t care less if TB12 wants to play for another team. TB12 is contractually committed to the Bucs. Nobody forced TB12 to do that. Promises and handshakes aren’t worth anything in. Unless it’s in a contract, it’s irrelevant.

When you post, please be informed about all parties involved.

Soccer is an infinitely more popular sport than football and their players make much higher salaries than any professional athlete playing a team sport.

Ronaldo who plays for the Glazers at Man U has a salary of $125 million a year. When comparing Ronaldo to a TB12, his popularity makes TB12’s look insignificant in comparison. 400 million people follow Ronaldo’s social media accounts. TB12 is just breaking 10 million.

The Glazer family recently made a bid for Man U to become a part of a new European Super League. They knew this was extremely unpopular, and they did it anyway. They angered their fans, players, etc. with that decision. Players like Ronaldo or Messi would be banned from playing for their national teams in the FIFA World Cup if the Super League was created and they played in it, which Ronaldo would have contractually been forced to do.

Guess who owns the Bucs? The Glazer family.

If the Glazers were okay in upsetting the crazy European Soccer Fans, Soccer Fans Everywhere, EPL, Champions League, FIFA, and their super star Ronaldo in their pursuit of the Super League, then they have shown you that their pursuit of their own businesses’ bottom line is the only focus for them.

  74. BelleGladeBuc Says:

The Bucs roster has many holes on it with there many unsigned free agents and recently retired players.

With that in mind, they do still have very talented players on their current roster on both sides of the ball.

From all reports, including on the awesome Joe Bucs Fan site, it is very likely that the Bucs will resign Stinnie, Cappa and Godwin. It appears as Joe reports, that our beloved warrior in Jensen is headed to the Bengals to make $13 million a year in his last big contract. Thank you for all the memories #66. You earned your free agency and the right to determine your future and us true Bucs fans wish you nothing but the best.

After reading Joe and other sources I think Davis is gone and that we are going to resign Whitehead.

If those players resign with the Bucs, then all the Bucs need is a top tier QB to take them to the Super Bowl. If that’s the final roster, then TB12 has taken much less talented Patriots teams to the Super Bowl in the past.

    The Glazers know this.

Now you see why @New England Patriot Fan and @list are a joke. They are shallow in their understanding of football and business.

  75. Bucs Guy Says:

Tax rate in Cincy (state+city) is 5% or $650K on $13M per year. So the equivalent in FL would be $12.35M per year.

  76. BelleGladeBuc Says:

Once we resign those players that I stated above, our major holes would be CB, needing a second high caliber starter at DT to pair with Vea, RB (even though Joe reports that the Bucs love Vaughn) and a third WR.

The Bucs would address some of those needs in this years draft.

After that the Bucs need depth at all positions and dual players to fill out special teams rosters just like every other NFL team needs.

That would be further addressed in the second and third wave of free agency.

  77. THOMAS PFALZ Says:

Since Jensen indicated he loves Tampa , he will give the Bucs somewhat of a hometown discount + no state income tax.

  78. Listnfrmafar Says:

Belle, not sure how much you’re willing to wager Bucs don’t sniff the SB this season. There is a difference between optimistic and realistic, I am the ladder of the two. Do you assume Godwin returns? I don’t care about Daivis, Winfield is the only one that has probowl potential.

  79. Listnfrmafar Says:

Belle, last I checked Glaizers don’t live in Europe. I also don’t think Brady gives two shats about the 400 mm soccer fans. The fact is if the Glaizers play hardball with Brady after helping them by taking the extention, Bucs will have a hard time getting decent players unless they plan to pay though the nose like New England just did. How did that workout? They are experiencing just as much chaos as Bucs are right now. I think you are the ignorant one.

  80. BelleGladeBuc Says:

    @list

If the Bucs resign Cappa and Stinnie their OLine is in great shape except for the question mark with Hainsey at center, but I trust in Licht’s ability to evaluate OLine as his track record at that position is terrific.

Joe Bucs Fan has reported that Godwin is the #1 UFA priority that the Bucs will resign.

Joe Bucs Fan has also reported that the Bucs are more likely to resign Whitehead and let Davis go.

With those resignings on offense the Bucs are a NFC South Division Champ contender and a playoff team with a Mac Jones like QB playing for them. Mac Jones would much rather have Mike Evans and Chris Godwin to throw too rather than the no talent WR’s he throws to who play for the Patriots. The Patriots current WR’s are a #3/#4 WR at best on the Bucs with Evans and Godwin as the clear cut #1 and #2. I don’t know if the Pat’s Nelson, Agolohor or Myers beat out Greyson, Perriman or Johnson for the # 3 WR.

If TB12 comes back to play, then the Bucs will be a Super Bowl contender if the Buc’s make those moves that I wrote about and that Joe Bucs Fan is reporting.

Without TB12 or a Russell Wilson type QB1 acquisition, the Bucs roster with all of the signings I wrote about and the draft is only a playoff contender with a Mac Jones level type of QB.

I’m a realist. Not a fool. Money is to important now with gas and food prices increasing dramatically in the past 15 months and I don’t part with it easily.

  83. BelleGladeBuc Says:

    @List

    You just don’t get it.

When did I write about wether TB12 cares about Ronaldo or not?

    SMH

The Ronaldo point was that the Glazers told one of the world’s richest and most popular athletes that he would play for them in the new Super League and never for his country. That’s a huge deal. Much bigger than TB12 could ever dream of.

Billionaires like the Glazer Family don’t live amongst the fans. It doesn’t matter where they live. Billionaires are insulated from everyday people and everyday tasks. The media can’t get to billionaires unless the billionaires let them. So where a billionaire like the Glazer’s live geographically is irrelevant.

Secondly, the Bucs have been perfect to TB12 in his retirement.

By restructuring his deal, TB12 was given more guaranteed money. Nobody forced him to sign. He’s an adult and he agreed to the terms of that legal contract. Anything beyond those legally binding terms is irrelevant. Stop bringing up irrelevant conjectures such as understood agreements. Tort law is not your thing I can tell.

Secondly, the Bucs have been more than generous to allow TB12 and Ali Marpet to keep millions of dollars by not asking TB12 or Ali Marpet to return the signing bonus money that they didn’t contractually fulfill.

Millions of dollars is way better than a gold watch. The Glazers have been more than fair and extremely generous to TB12 and Ali Marpet in their retirements.

All the NFL players have seen that the Glazers allowed TB12 and Marpet to keep is millions. Because of that, the Bucs will have no problems acquiring free agents.

  84. Listnfrmafar Says:

Ok Belle, I guess we’ll see. My guess is the Glaisers made more money from the Bucs franchise than probably the last 15 total. I’m pretty sure they know this. All I know is rumor has it that Brady is throwing balls consistently, doesn’t sound like a guy retiring. Marpet is irrelevant isn’t he a free agent? If Stinnie is so good, why didn’t he start or play more? Youisted Evan’s and hopefully Godwin and you missed Bourne and Henry.

  85. Rod Munch Says:

    $13m for Jensen? LOL!

    OK Bengals, have fun.

Yes, he’s good – he’s not however elite, and being on a new team he’s going to do the same tough guy routine he did here early on, and I wonder how many games he’s going to lose them with his stupid unsportsmanlike penalties.

I have completely faith in Licht to find someone else. He is amazing at the offensive line position. Remember Jensen had been a career backup, didn’t have a ton of starts when the Bucs picked him up, made him the highest paid center in football at the time. We used our 3rd rounder last year on a future C preparing just for this.

  86. BelleGladeBuc Says:

    @list

    Are you okay?

This is what you wrote for the Joe Bucs Fan article titled “Ali Marpet Retirement is a Blessing in Disguise” on February 27th, 2022:

    “Listnfrmafar Says:
    February 27th, 2022 at 6:43 pm
Marpet, Gronk, Jensen & Godwin, all starring in 80 for Brady, new careers.”

The article yo commented on was about the fact that Ali Marpet Ali just retired this week with 2 years left on his contract. The Bucs could go after millions of dollars from his contract, but they are not.

The NFL players see this and know how the Glazers treat their players such as TB12 and Marpet in retirement. Again, millions of dollars that you didn’t truthfully earn, but are allowed to keep is much better than a gold watch.

Alex Cappa broke his ankle in the Wild Card Game and missed the rest of the playoffs after that. Stinnie came in and the OLine didn’t miss a beat with him Stinnie in the game against a very good and stout Washington Football Team front 7.

Stinnie then didn’t give up a sack vs the Saints terrific pass rush, started and didn’t give up a sack against the Packers, and then did the same thing against the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

Stinnie is a very good and battle tested guard.

You state a lot of unsourced rumors @list, and then you forget simple things like Marpet’s retirement this week that you commented about.

OLSZEWSKI had 2 catches for the Patriots last year. Bourne had 55 for 800. Harry had 12 catches for the Patriots last year. Agholor Had 47 catches for 474 yards for the Patriots last year. The only Patriot WR who would have made the Bucs roster last year is Jskobi Meyers, and he’s a WR3/WR4 on the Bucs.

Hunter Henry is a TE, and not a WR, and thus not able to fill the WR3 need of the Bucs. Henry is s good receiver and a horrible blocker. Truthfully, Henry is nowhere near the level of all around player at TE as Gronk is.

Because of all of your rumor has it/non sourced statements and your factual mistakes @list, it’s hard to take you seriously.

Belle, I wasn’t sure of Marpets contract hence the ‘?’ . The point I was making is Bucs don’t have any TE’s. Pat’s have two. I don’t get the comparison, Evan’s and Godwin aren’t getting the receptions and yards they got if Jones is throwing to them. I also believe you are.over evaluating the Bucs oline. They were great pass.blockers for the most part but Brady gets rid of the ball quicker than most and as far as run blocking, I wouldn’t call them the best. Grant it BL’s idea of a run is dive or off tackle right or left. Just saying, BA is going to have to pull a rabbit out of his arse to save next season. There is hope, it appears Roger’s is leaning towards the AFC, in my mind not bright because the best QB’s are in that division, nevertheless, that leaves Wilson, Stafford, Murray and possibly Cousins to worry about. That is unless TB12 pops up in a 9ers uniform. I am starting to think if the Bucs don’t go after Winston it could be a mistake.

Mike Evans with Mike Glennon and Josh McCown throwing him the ball caught for over a thousand yards for the years they were his QB.

Jones is a much better QB in my opinion than Glennon or McCown.

Evans would be just fine and put up great numbers with Jones as his QB.
