Ndamukong Suh Talking With Bucs Assistants
March 24th, 2022While probably the biggest fish of the Bucs’ remaining free agents is still, well, free, that doesn’t mean he has shut off all communications with the team.
In a column dealing with rumors and notes related to the second week of free agency, Jeremy Fowler of BSPN.com typed that Ndamukong Suh has been speaking with Bucs assistants in search of feedback regarding keeping his 35-year old body productive.
And don’t be surprised if defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh returns. He has talked with coaches in the past about strengthening his Hall of Fame résumé with another season in Tampa Bay. At age 35, Suh has back-to-back six-sack seasons and could go for a third.
Suh is a mercenary, and Joe types that with all due respect. Suh has made millions and millions of dollars by betting on himself with one-year contracts. Suh is a very sharp businessman. It’s one reason he is a confidante of Warren Buffett.
So if the Bucs want Suh, they have to cut a check. That’s all there is to it.
One reason Suh keeps going for a one-year contract is his durability. He has never missed a start due to injury since being drafted in 2010. For a defensive tackle, that is just unreal. The only starts Suh has missed, two games in 2011, were because of a suspension.

it’s like with cappa and jensen…
rojo and lenny…
whitehead and cd3…
you gota bring back at least one of the two when TB12 is in the building…
this ain’t a rebuild…
so same application goes for jpp and suh…
gotta bring back one of the two – at least…
i say sign suh…and see how it plays out with jpp – and try to bring him back if possible too…these guys are kinda like pillars in this defense – i certainly believe suh is…things are a little iffy with jpp because of the injury plagued season – but i’ve always thought he played a big role in this defense prior last past season…and he’s an athletic freak – let him go and he potentially signs on somewhere else for a 12 sack season – he’s just that type of dude

Interesting ESPN link about ‘with Bucs assistants’ Joe. And for only $6.99 a month I could read it. Or not …

You just gotta luv that ‘surly’ attitude because he’s a bad man.
Especially when he’s on our team.
He brings it, attitude, intellect, a man beast.
The cog that starts it up front.
And suh is as durable as they come too.
A man’s man in the trenches.
To me he’s the silent leader on defense.
His actions do all the talking.

Sign the real 93!!!!!
Suh should be added to ROH TODAY!!!!!!!
Retire his Jersey in 2023.
LFG!!!!!

The Stat of never missing a start due to injury is just unreal ! I did not know that about suh. You all remember the ” other number 93 ” that was here right before suh , always had some kind of injury and was way way way overrated ! When we sent him packing I jumped for joy since he was the poster child for the lost decade . Suh is a beast ! Plain and simple. A beast that’s getting long in the tooth but still will bite , and if you watch him during the rams game last year in the playoffs, you will see someone that can get r done ! It is not a coincidence that the bucs are number 1 against the run since his arrival, something we were never number 1 at when big Ole Mr. Softy was here . How much do we think it would cost for another 1 year contract out of suh ? 6 mil ?

I trust our GM knows what the Bucs can afford and what it takes to land #93.
March 24th, 2022 at 7:17 am
This comes down to $. Months ago I said Suh or Gholston? Bucs chose Gholston (younger and less expensive). I don’t know if they can afford Suh unless he takes a serious discount (half off sale) — which I don’t see him doing. Added to that, the Bucs are going DT in the draft on day 1 or 2.
March 24th, 2022 at 7:19 am
Suh wants starter money, the Bucs want to get younger at DT probably using #27 on Wyatt, or Jones. I think the Bucs view Suh as a back up now. They probably want to pay him 4 to 6 mill, and he’s wanting 9 to 12. Hopefully whatever the gap he comes back for another year.

Defense rules, ESPN+ is included with a Hulu subscription, which is also rolled up into a Disney+ subscription which is free for a year with an Apple product purchase. Not sure if you fall into any of those categories, just wanted to share that you may have access if you apply to any of those situations.
Two year deal for $15M with more than 2/3 as a signing bonus to roll cap into next year. Would love to have him back in Red and Pewter.

Dude you made me laugh so hard I almost fell out of bed. ‘Suh, a back up’ puhleaze. Go read another dr. Suess book….
March 24th, 2022 at 8:27 am
Stone crab sam … I don’t think anyone is talking about Suh re-signing to be a ‘backup’; more about him being a ‘part-timer’. If you look closely at his defensive snaps percentage in the past 3 years as a Buc, here’s what you see …
o 2019 … 874 snaps (81.5%)
o 2020 … 786 snaps (76.8%)
o 2021 … 717 snaps (65.6%)
So an obvious decrease (in total snaps AND as a percentage of the total Bucs’ defensive plays) each year. Not too hard to project that, at that pace, Suh would probably contribute say around 50-55% of the total Bucs defensive snaps IF he returns in 2022. That’s a part-timer IMO; similar to what Will Gholston has given us over these past 3 years (right around 50% of our total def snaps).
And yet that’s good, considering that we’ll (hopefully) need to break in a couple of rooks in our Front 7 (DT & DE/OLB hopefully). Perfect opportunity to learn form the masters.

Would love to have him back…he brings it! But we better be going D-Line in the 1st round of the Draft. We need some young guns to add to the D..
March 24th, 2022 at 8:55 am
the team is in dire need of a “beastly” pass rusher to pair with shaq off the other edge…
and for joe sho to grow as a player in leaps and bounds…
maybe add in nassib as a back up…
looks like mcclendon and o’connor are not coming back i guess…
i like o’connor but say you can replace him for relatively the same salary with nassib – if nassib has anything left in the tank
March 24th, 2022 at 9:00 am
it would be nice to get suh for 2 years 15 mil, or 1 year 8 mil…
seems like he prefers 1 year deals to keep the salary up there…
most teams can scrape together about 10 mil for a season with big suh – and he fully understands that 1 year dynamic

Yes a noted decrease in snaps on defense for suh, but at whos discretion?
March 24th, 2022 at 9:19 am
Suh is still a top 20-25 DT in the NFL and his mentoring to Vea and others on DLine is invaluable.
The run D wouldn’t be the same without him and his pass rush skills are solid.
If he wants to play, Bucs must pay.
March 24th, 2022 at 9:53 am
Suh is and always has been a beast. I’ve been watching him since college. I hope they can come to an agreement and he comes back.
March 24th, 2022 at 10:24 am
Suh, fletcher Cox. Top two run stoppers. Again, these guys are so few and far between…
March 24th, 2022 at 10:27 am
Suhs such a bad man, that he got kicked in the cajones against the rams in the nfc playoffs, that the refs being the refs, threw the flag on him.
Now that’s bad😎
March 24th, 2022 at 2:35 pm
Keep SUH!!!! KEEp JPP !!! These guys are damn good and a reason why nobody can run on us!!! We need to fix our secondary!! That is where teams burn us the passing game!!
UNFINISHED BUISSNESS LFGO!!!!!!
March 24th, 2022 at 11:09 pm
I agree. You have to sign Suh and JPP if we want a chance to win the SB. They were such a huge part of it last time and 2 of the most badass warriors ever in the NFL. I would get rid of every kicker and restructure every contract to bring them back but please resign Gronk too.
March 25th, 2022 at 7:57 am
He needs to take a pay cut like Gholston.
