Mike Evans Restructures His Deal, Helps Bucs Save Cap Room
March 17th, 2022This isn’t even really news, as Mike Evans seemingly reworks his contract to help the Bucs’ front office at least once a year.
He did it again this week, per the NFL Network ticker. Evans turned his $14 million salary for 2022 into a signing bonus, which lets the Bucs spread the salary cap hit over multiple years.

Mr. Buccaneer does it again. Please just make our man Buccaneer fo Life and Beyond. Love this man.
March 17th, 2022 at 10:55 am
This dude is the best teammate. Honestly, give Mike the key to the city. Elect him Mayor…whatever. One of the greatest Bucs of all time, and in the conveyor best ever.
March 17th, 2022 at 10:57 am
@Goatfarmer,
That’s exactly the first thought that came to mind. Mr. Buccaneer. This guy will be the face of the Bucs for a long time.
March 17th, 2022 at 11:02 am
Thank you once again, Mike Evans!
March 17th, 2022 at 11:04 am
lambchop … ‘This guy will be the face of the Bucs for a long time.’
Exactly right Lambchop. Bucs owe him so much for so many future years that it’d probably be cheaper just to give him a share of the franchise. He’s a Buc for life.
March 17th, 2022 at 11:10 am
Unselfish, team first everytime.
March 17th, 2022 at 11:10 am
Man. I love this dude. Mike Evans is in my top 10 favorite Bucs of all-time now.
March 17th, 2022 at 11:11 am
The fact that Evans is only making $14m is unreal. That’s the definition of a team player. Evans and Brady both taking below market contracts to help put a winning team on the field while still making a lot of money, While other Superstars take max contracts and complain that they need more help.
March 17th, 2022 at 11:12 am
Mike Evans reminds me so much of Allstot. On and off the field great player better person.
March 17th, 2022 at 11:13 am
Surprised they didn’t extend Evans a year or two further to reduce even more-
March 17th, 2022 at 11:14 am
Drsesq. Lol. Yeah the fact he ” only” makes almost a million a game is unreal. People have real problems
March 17th, 2022 at 11:15 am
Mike is just one of those rare talents that you never see as a receiver. I’m not talking about his on field talents, even though he’s one of the tops in the NFL right now. I mean what he does is always for someone else. How many receivers would not only redo his contract for the team, but do it right after the #2 receiver on the team signs a contract for more money then you and doesn’t say a bad word about it. How many reviewers in the league with his talent would do that??
March 17th, 2022 at 11:17 am
Bucs: “Hey Mike, we need some cap space, mind if we just give you your whole salary this year up front?”
ME: “ummm, ok”
Fans: “wow, Evans is such an unselfish team player!”
🤣🤣🤣
March 17th, 2022 at 11:17 am
Great person & Teammate!
March 17th, 2022 at 11:18 am
Mike Evans, Hall of Famer and best Bucs WR of all time. And it’s not even close!
March 17th, 2022 at 11:22 am
That man better die a Buccaneer.
March 17th, 2022 at 11:24 am
Mike Evans in my top 10 Bucs…
Evans, Brady, Alstott, Selmon, Sapp, Lynch, Brooks, Shaggy & ASJ
March 17th, 2022 at 11:25 am
Forgot Bo Jackson……oops!!!
March 17th, 2022 at 11:26 am
If ME13 were a Bellicheat player, he’d have been rewarded by being traded to Detroit because he was nearly 30
March 17th, 2022 at 11:28 am
They consummate pro and teammate.
March 17th, 2022 at 11:42 am
BradentuckeyBuc – exactly! I appreciate his willingness to change things up but this doesn’t seem to be a sacrifice, unless I’m missing something here.
Also, how bizarre is the NFL salary cap structure, creative accounting is all it takes to create cap space.
March 17th, 2022 at 11:43 am
Julio Jones is coming to Tampa….add that too! Brady wants him. No he wont play every snap, but he’ll be used for certain situations at an affordable price!
ME13, YOU THE MAN! Turning into the GOAT at WR!
March 17th, 2022 at 11:48 am
Thank you Mike Evans.
March 17th, 2022 at 11:48 am
Loyalty works both ways with Mike and Licht. Licht has been super supportive of Mike and in return Mikes gives the organization all he can. They both simply want the best for the Bucs. This is the way it’s supposed to work.
March 17th, 2022 at 11:53 am
The real question is if Evans made that move to free up money for Julio. This is starting to turn into fantasy here. Gronk, Lenny, Honey Badger, and Julio Jones, LFG!!!
March 17th, 2022 at 12:05 pm
My goodness….can you imagine that 4 wr set…
ME13, CG14, Gage, Jones, Gronk blocking
GTFO here…..im already placing a hundred on our SB odds as I type this….
March 17th, 2022 at 12:06 pm
Love Mike, but let’s not forget Mike has amassed 80 plus million since joining the Bucs. I love that they are restructuring into signing bonuses, but what if those players get injured ? I pray they don’t, but still surprised they haven’t signed any defensive players for the line and especially must needed corners !! Yes CD signed for 3 years, but going in with Dean, SMB, Winfield, and Edwards isn’t that impressive not including the line. Yes Vita and 2 Linebackers and LVD isn’t in his prime, but are they restructuring his deal ? I know everyone says he’s such a great leader and don’t doubt it to a point, but his play did drop off and those last two series cost the team a really good chance at playing for a Super Bowl. Im glad to see Shaq restructure because I don’t think he’s worth 20 million being very one dimensional, but would like to see a healthy JPP back and maybe Suh. I hope Gholston goes somewhere and finally gets his last monster deal. Im not trying to come off negative, but the offense will be ready to go and praying they can bring the Honey Badger in to be like the Brady in the secondary and hopefully his play and leadership will help the young Bucs and hope they do away with the grave diggers after digging their own grave against the Rams .. Go Bucs and trusting Jason to make the right moves because we could have a 2 year window ( if Brady signs for another year ) to have opportunities at another ring !! Let’s Go
March 17th, 2022 at 12:07 pm
Thanks Mike, doing this will help bring more talent to the team and get the next ring
March 17th, 2022 at 12:09 pm
No player refuses to receive their entire salary as a lump sum.
Bucs: Can we give you all the money now?
Evans: Ummm, okay.
Wow, what a deal!
March 17th, 2022 at 12:25 pm
Everyone thanking Evans in this comment section just goes to show that almost nobody knows anything about the business of football. Mike did literally nothing but accept most of his 2022 salary upfront. Like a few said above, NO player turns that down. I love Evans, but nobody owes him ‘thanks’ for that.
The entity making the sacrifice is the team itself. By converting the salary to bonus, they’ve taken the injury/diminished performance risk on the player. As soon as Evans cashes that check, it’s gone, even if the Bucs cut him, he destroys his knee in a pickup basketball game, or he gets in airplane crash. This is why NFL teams only do this a year at a time, and only with players they’re 100% sure will make the team.
So, please, for the love of God and all that’s holy, stop “thanking” a player for something 100% of people would automatically do.
March 17th, 2022 at 12:27 pm
Coolest player on the Bucs after Brady.
Anyone who ever called ME13 a diva should be very ashamed of themselves
March 17th, 2022 at 12:27 pm
Mike is learning from the GOAT
You can make the mega pile of cash, but the odds are that in doing so you will play on a team with too many holes
You can make decent money and if you have the right team ownership/GM/coaching you can help field a team that has good odds in going deep into the playoffs
March 17th, 2022 at 1:02 pm
Mike is the tom brady of the wide receiver room I wish godwin was less greedy
March 17th, 2022 at 1:16 pm
MIKE EVANS #13
Consummate professional.
Consummate teammate.
One of the greatest BUCS of all time.
I sincerely hope he retires as a Buccaneer.
We are blessed to have him in Tampa Bay.
March 17th, 2022 at 2:20 pm
Love me some ME13.
More should step up

^^^^^^^^^^^
If you follow football at all, you know there are some selfish WR’s in the NFL. Mike Evans isn’t.
March 17th, 2022 at 4:30 pm
@joesimmons 2 people said thank you and not sure why they did, but your take about everyone not knowing about football is way off Joseph. After seeing that anger about the stupidity of Bucs fan I’m going to assume you played pro ball or run a business? Glad they are restructuring and hope they go all the way !! Go Bucs
March 17th, 2022 at 6:44 pm
@joesimmons With the most idiotic post on the internet today. Jeeeeesh!
March 17th, 2022 at 8:52 pm
Of course he does. Incredible player, incredible dude.
March 18th, 2022 at 8:20 am
Great tough get er dun player that’s a tremendous asset to our team and wonderful for our community and the children. The Bucs need to make sure Evans plays and retires in the future as a Buc HOF’er.
March 18th, 2022 at 7:45 pm
BIG MIKE is SOLID F’N GOLD! This man DOES NOT get enough credit! @JoeSimmons your right in your statement as well yet I fell as its both the team & him, himself that’s sacrificed for the great good. Love this team & organization, Tampa is my birth place & I’m so proud of what this organization & its players do for the community & for Big Mike its a natural calling to help from all Ive seen. BUCCS LFG!
March 18th, 2022 at 8:13 pm
In honor of the greatest WR in Bucs history , A LOT of people , including myself have donated $13 to the Mike Evans Family Foundation on Twitter for him continuing to be the BEST TEAM PLAYER in the NFL and for everything he has done for the community !! Go Bucs and Mike Evans
March 18th, 2022 at 8:57 pm
@SB – Yeah there’s a lot of idiotic post on here about a player that has ALWAYS put the TEAM first !! Bandwagon fans. Is it Mike’s fault that he gets paid millions ?? No .. But he also isn’t like D. ADAMS who is so greedy like his NOW EX QB Aaron Rodgers, that NEED to have the title of HIGHEST PAID at the position even if if means your team would not be winning Super Bowls “Packers” because the QB and WR take up over 80 million in cap !! That’s why they can’t build a winner.. But not our problem.. love to see it going down like that up there in cheese head country.. Maybe this sends Rogers over the deep end and he quits on the team right before the season starts.. Go Bucs
March 18th, 2022 at 9:03 pm
I personally went on the Mike Evans Family Foundation and donated $13 as did a LOT of BUCS fans as a way of saying thank you to Evans for everything he has done for the Bucs , us fans , and the community !! Great guy . Not a lot of WRs like him.. He could be asking to be paid over 20 mil a year as he gets over 1,000 yards every year and double digit TDs almost every year !!
