Loose Grading By NFL Network

“Good Morning Football” reacts.

Damn, Joe wishes he had these kinds of teachers in high school.

The gang of “Good Morning Football,” seen weekday mornings on NFL Network, decided to hand out season grades for each NFC South team — and who wouldn’t want Kay Adams for a teacher? (A certain Van Halen song springs to mind.)

Closet Bucs fan Peter Schrager was the teacher who handed out his Tampa Bay report card for 2021. And Schrager gave the Bucs an “A.”

“We thought they were going to steamroll right through to the NFC Championship,” Schrager said. “They didn’t.”

Joe can’t go there. The Bucs didn’t even make it to the Super Bowl. Joe will give the Bucs a solid “B.” They overcame a sh!tload of injuries but only so far. They won one playoff game.

It was an A+ start by bringing back 22+1 starters from the Super Bowl-winning team but injuries and bad chemistry (Antonio Brown) helped crush the Bucs’ hopes of repeating.

A good season, yes. Good enough? No.

As for 2022, Schrager believes Bucs are wearing out rosaries in the hope that Tom Brady returns.

“The vibe I got down there in Indy?” Schrager began. “‘Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty please’ is their 1-, 2-, 3-, 4-, 5-option, ‘Come back Brady at quarterback.’ There isn’t much of a parachute.

“There is a big board in Tampa I am sure where you have these depth charts of who you want? They have it scrubbed off with just “Please, Tom.” It could be really dark days again without him.”

When the braintrust of your team is openly speaking about Blaine Gabbert commanding a Super Bowl run, that’s a special kind of dark.

I wouldn’t mind hearing what AB’s opinion of Gabbert is. He is unlikely to hold back

  2. tampabuscsbro Says:

Is anyone saying that Blaine Gabbert is going to lead this team to the super bowl?

The only place I’ve read that implied is here.

I mean sure we could leverage everything on some mediocre QB that no one wants (wintz, jimmy g) but that’s going to make things worse paying them that much guaranteed money.

  3. Beeej Says:

Peyton’s last year Denver won the Super Bowl…. that’s probably what Gabbert would be like. Would require better defense, better running game

  4. Listnfrmafar Says:

BA, BL and especially Toilet Bowles brought the grade down. Over coming all the injuries and lack of WR’s the Bucs were 42 seconds away of a legit possible repeat. The wound has not healed yet.

  5. Tommyb Says:

The last play of the year would never happen against a Bellichek team And I think that’s what bugs Tom the most. Bellichek never let the opponents best player beat them and if Cupp was having that kind of a game on that play Bella chick would have 3 guys on him or 3-1/2. I respect Todd and Brian limmensely but that 1 play probably sticks in Brady’s craw.. In addition not going after 2 players they could have

  6. Bird Says:

    Karen rodgers 4 years 200 mil đź‘€

Brady played for half that. Rodgers cant complain about not getting enough talent when literAlly his contract will not allow them to get any other big names. Especially if WR Adams signs for 20 mil plus

  7. OBVIOUS Says:

    Hmm..

I just read that we are indeed placing the tag on Godwin. I can’t wrap my head around that. I just can’t. Thinking in business terms, a very bad investment at this point.
Look, all that’s left is thinking in conspiracy terms. What else can we do? What kind of a jackass move is that? Seriously! What else makes any sense?

Ok. For instance let’s look at something I mentioned last night.
    1. The long game. Hmm. The only reason for that? ~ Cap manipulation.
Gonna need someone far more clever and in touch with the understanding of the terms, numbers and Tampering Law, than me to calculate what the possibilities are.
However, on the surface, it’s Definitely possible concerning our QB.
    Well, Tom Brady at least.
    .
    2. A deal HAS been struck (with someone) and tampering IS in effect and when we see BA or Licht looking perplexed, it could be for reasons we simply don’t see the angle to yet. Something, We Haven’t Even Considered because we don’t really know what we’re talking about. It’s not our fault because try as we might we’re Not part of the inner circle.
The confused and concerned looks could be “what if Tom does want to come b

  8. OBVIOUS Says:

    “Part 2”
Phone feel and sent before I could finish
As I was saying, what if that look from Licht is of concern for Reasons why we don’t understand because it’s actually an entirely Different Puzzle?

  9. OBVIOUS Says:

In the end, tagging Godwin Doesn’t Compute. Not without a Guaranteed QB, and CERTAINLY NOT for the money! 120% of his actual value! And again, NOT WITHOUT (after all of that), NOT WITHOUT A GUARANTEED STAR QB!

So I say, Something IS stirring in the background and as everyday goes by, I’m smelling a Surprise that is Already in play.
    NOTHING ELSE MAKES SENSE. Nothing

    Conspiracy? Hmm. Maybe so…..
    Apologize about the sloppiness.

    GO BUCS!

  10. Steven007 Says:

Obvious, the tag is in place because a deal isn’t worked out yet. No way he plays on that tag. If he does it’s an absolutely idiotic move.

  11. OBVIOUS Says:

    Agreed.
But… time IS short. Not sure where the majority stands but I do believe Carlton is by far our best CB. After last year, I’M SWEATING losing our best corner. In fact, we could surely use a couple of more.
I know I may be in the minority on this one but I’d rather have that tag available for Carlton (if nessesary) instead of Chris. To be honest, I’m feeling like Chris is getting a little greedy. I don’t have all the facts. It’s just how I feel.

    GO BUCS!

  12. Buczilla Says:

Brady did what was right for him and I’m going to do what’s right for me as a Buccaneers fan. Not give a flying f about Brady in a football sense. I’m excited as hell to see what Trask, hopefully a rookie qb, and most likely some scrub off of the street can do as our qb. The only thing that would turn me to fishing and listening to games on the radio would be if Teddy or Gabbert were the starter. Rebuilds are fun and things will work themselves out.

  13. SaintsFan59 Says:

OH WAAAAH. GET OVER IT. TANTRUM TOM WAS SICK OF PLAYING FOR YOU FOOLS.

  14. Defense Rules Says:

Schrager … “Please, Tom.” It could be really dark days again without him.”

Wearing out rosaries? How about just plain old DELUSIONAL instead? Tom Brady got what he wanted out of the Bucs for 2 years. Bucs got what they wanted out of Tom Brady for 2 years. Brady has moved on; Bucs need to do the same.

JL & the rest of the Bucs’ braintrust put all their chips on the table at the start of 2021. Their all-in gamble paid off in a great regular season record (13-4) but wasn’t enough in the playoffs (1-1). There obviously was NO PLAN for 2022 & beyond, and Tom Brady knew that. Bye bye Bucs. Don’t blame him one bit.

After hearing that we just franchise-tagged Godwin for the SECOND TIME (at $19 mil) I’m convinced that Licht is not only desperate, but he really is delusional. The way he structured the 2021 contracts left us a shell of a team in 2022, and relatively little salary CAP money to fill in the resultant holes with comparable quality players. How do you replace Brady with a player of comparable talent? Or Gronk? Or Suh? Or JPP? Or Jensen? Or Marpet? Or Fournette? The list goes on.

We’ll end up filling all the holes, but the talent level can’t be replaced in a single season. Or 2 seasons. Probably not even in 3 seasons. Even IF we hit on all of our Top-3 Rnd draft picks, that still wouldn’t do it. We’ll NEED to buy some major help on the FA market, and unfortunately that costs big bucks for top talent. Hmmm, I see a Catch-22 in the making.

  15. Defense Rules Says:

Steven007 … Not sure what you meant by ‘No way he plays on that tag’. If I was Chris Godwin, that’s exactly what I’d do. Bucs just screwed him in the HOPES of getting him to sign a long-term contract. Not cool.

Bucs now have until 4 PM on July 15th to get Godwin to sign a long-term contract. If he doesn’t, then he & the Bucs can’t negotiate any further; he’d have to play under that franchise tag. That means that the Bucs eat ALL $19,127,000 of that contract in terms of 2022 salary CAP hit. Essentially it just became a 1-year guaranteed contract.

Just a couple days ago there was a JBF article about Godwin being at 45% at this point. We have zero idea when he’ll be ready or how effective he’ll be when he does come back. He’ll have had minimal opportunity to work with ‘whatever QB’ we’re starting at the time he returns. What could possibly go wrong?

  16. SufferingSince76 Says:

SaintsFan59, bugger off back to your truly pathetic football team. Your team is nothing without Brees.

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

There is no question we shot our salary cap wad last year with all the restructures pushed forward….now we are paying the piper….as we are with Godwin….should have renegotiated his contract in his 4th year….could have given him a very nice raise and signed him to a 4 year deal with some flexibility…..now, he’s making us pay.

  18. Biff Barker Says:

We shot the wad thinking we could repeat. Its a risk you have to take when you have TB12.

  19. confused buc fan Says:

Joe, that is not how the segment on GMF works, Shrager didn’t give the Bucs an A, he had to find a “class” in which to give the bucs an A, and he chose Chemistry … must have forgotten about AB

  20. Kno one Says:

Cant say I blame Tom for retiring, considering he
Did everything possible to ensure a win against the
Rams (except play defense)& it still wasn’t enough! Theres not a QB out there that would’ve won that game.they need the pressure off the end,to be smart enough to notice when their not being blocked..seems like Joe Tryon bites everytime- which then leaves white-torn between protecting the middle of the
field & the flat..as well as better situational football.Dont
Blitz on the last play when their only chance is going way
downfield.there should’ve been 2 safety’s back there waiting -after the corner checked Cupp at the line of scrimmage..I say it would take either a change in coaching to get Brady back-or they better go all in on Watson!

  21. Kno one Says:

And Bruce Arians better not have any biscuits
