“Jason Does A Great Job In All Areas”
March 28th, 2022Life has changed a lot for Bucs fans.
It’s a beautiful thing, and it’s not all Tom Brady.
At the NFL Owners meetings today in Palm Beach, Joe was hanging out with JoeBucsFan.com columnist Ira Kaufman and chatting with a major executive of an NFC team. No, it wasn’t John Lynch or Rich McKay. There was a lot of candid conversation going on when the guy started talking about how top-shelf general manager Jason Licht is in his operation.
That was very cool considering nobody asked the executive for a report card on Licht.
Later in the day, Joe asked Team Glazer to speak about the GM and the historic 2018 draft class, which just saw Alex Cappa, Jordan Whitehead and Ronald Jones depart for big contracts — and two of them went to elite teams.
Years ago the Bucs were lucky to have one good player from a draft class. Now they’re getting multiples. Vita Vea and Carlton Davis are still around from that historic 2018 class.
JoeBucsFan.com: The 2018 draft class just had three players leave and get really good contracts. That wasn’t the case years ago. What can you say about the job Jason Licht’s done and the evolution of the team with the draft and what you expect now out of the draft that you didn’t expect before?
Joel Glazer: I think the results speak for themselves. Jason does a great job in all areas, whether it’s drafting, free agency, retaining our players. And that comes with experience and it comes with living and learning throughout different situations. But he does it as good as anybody in all facets. You know, to have a championship team as we all saw, you have to do it multiple ways. You’ve gotta do it through the draft, you gotta do it through free agency, you gotta re-sign your own guys and you gotta know when to let a guy or two go. So he does a tremendous job.
Yes, the results sure do speak for themselves, from cap management to roster talent, draft victories and more.
Licht is on one hell of a run. The maturity of the Bucs’ front office since 2014 is downright stunning. Tom Brady deserves a ton of credit for a lot of things, but not that.

This is one of the reasons you don’t fire everyone after 2 or 3 seasons, unless the people in charge prove themselves to be truly inept or you can clearly get a huge upgrade. But firing people, to fire people, generally just puts you on the path of everyone being gone every 3 years or so and you never really get a chance to see what anyone can do.

While not everyone may appreciate Licht’s handling of the team, look at discussions on this site when we talk about whether we should keep a player, trade a player, pay a player, get a free agent, draft a player or release a player. Many people used to complain about his decisions, but now you see the large majority of the contributors saying they trust BA and JL. That speaks volumes.
We all still have our opinions and every move won’t always work out, but through his performance, most fans realize he knows what he’s doing and has done well.

JL should have gotten GM of the year a couple times but TB12 gets most of the credit from the league.

I trust JL not BA.

Best Bucs GM EVER, bigger hits than any misses you can mention to attempt to prove otherwise.

Tom Brady has made this coaching staff and GM look a lot better than they really are. Think about it hes doing most of the recruiting Licht is just writing up the contracts. BA is basically doing nothing but trying to get Gabbert back on the team. Licht is a pretty good GM but BA does pretty much nothing. He needs to retire and see what Lefty can do.

ok ,I say thanks Mr. Licht but if the Bucs qb had stayed retired, would you feel the same or was this team going down the drain ??

He definitely has improved since 2017 because after those 2016 & 2017 drafts people were calling for his head. Add those free agent busts like Swaggy, Michael Johnson & Anthony Collins and well he could only get better.

Couldn’t agree more! All hail King Licht! 👑

All I can think about when I see “Joel Glazer” is the banter between Jon Gruden and Bruce Allen.

A friendly reminder. Brady chose the Bucs. Why because of the well put together team (thanks to Licht) and good advice from Payton Manning about BA.
