What Deshaun Watson Said About Bruce Arians

February 28th, 2022

Comments surfaced.

Props to SI.com for digging up these quotes.

Unfortunately, Houston quarterback Deshaun Watson continues his cone of silence with the Fourth Estate. Joe doesn’t think Watson has held a press conference since at least before the 2021 season began.

But Mike Fisher of SI.com mined old quotes of Watson speaking about then-Cardinals coach and current Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians.

When Watson was coming out for the NFL draft in 2017, it seemed he was on the Cardinals’ radar. It was a strong enough possibility that Watson and Arians got to know each other a little through the draft process. Fisher has more details.

“I like Bruce,” Watson said then. “That’s my guy. I’ve known Bruce. He used to come around (at Clemson). … He’s always been a fan of mine. And I’ve always been a fan of his, and we communicated.”

Of course, we now know Houston traded up with Cleveland to get ahead of Arizona — from No. 25 overall to No. 12 — and plucked Watson away from Arians and the Cardinals.

Prior to the draft, Arians was quoted as saying the 2017 quarterback class was special and Arians lauded the talents of Pat Mahomes and Watson. When those words got back to Watson, he seemed honored.

“That’s pretty dope from a legendary coach like him,” Watson said. “It gives me a lot of confidence and a lot of momentum and motivation to keep striving to be great.”

Well, perhaps remembering a simpler time, this is why Watson reportedly added the Bucs (and the Vikings) to his wish list of teams this month.

Joe has to wonder if Watson shows up in Tampa, does Arians put retirement on the back burner?

Bringing in Watson would be the worst move possible.

  2. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

Bonzai, please explain. He’s 26, he’s really accurate and the only legit receiver the guy’s had was Hopkins, and he was good even after losing him. He can make plays with his feet but that’s not his entire game.

Off the field, I understand the issues but as someone involved in law enforcement, I will tell you that with the large number of complaints against him, if the authorities were going to indict him, they likely would have already done it. Civilly, I’m sure they are working out settlements. I’m equally sure that Commissioner Mangina will suspend him but even if it’s for a year, I’d be willing to give up significant draft capital to get a young QB of his stature for the next 10+ years.

  3. Buc4evr Says:

The grand jury is expected to make a determination on the 10 criminal charges against Watson by April 1st. I would expect the Buc’s to trade for a new QB way before April 1st. I would be surprised if the Bucs entertain signing Watson.

  4. 1sparkybuc Says:

Morals matter to some people. Watson doesn’t have any. Brady was respected. Watson is the polar opposite. Watson brings a stench. I have been a fan of this team since the very beginning. I’m done with Sunday Ticket if Watson is our QB.

  5. Kalind Says:

This is pointless now. The Marpet news yesterday makes this coming year a rebuild. It’s obvious. Burn up the $ this year to give some flexibility and throw Trask out there to get us a top 5 pick. Overpay so Godwin doesn’t escape and baton down the hatches for a season.

  6. Beeej Says:

Why does one guy retiring signal a rebuild? Heard that a dozen times in the last two days. We were probably gonna let Jensen walk, now we’ll sign him instead with Marpet’s money, big deal

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Waton & Robert Kraft like each other also….they have the same hobbies….

I agree. When it comes to people in my life, morals matter. When it comes to who plays for my football team, I couldn’t care less. I want good football players. I’m not having any of these guys over for dinner. As a season ticket holder, I don’t have the option of turning off the TV when we are getting our ass kicked at home. I have to sit and listen to Danny the Drunk behind me for 3 hours ripping my team and my city (even though Danny the Drunk lives here). The last two years have been wonderful and unless we option a legit QB, we will fade back into irrelevance and Ray Jay will again be a destination for carpet bagging opposing fans. I prefer not to go back there.

  9. Buc92’ Says:

Joe didn’t u already post these old comments, wake me up when he makes new comments, nonetheless Deshaun should be our qb , or Trask … any other players, coaches that don’t wana be here can leave as well. We have been thru worse

    GoBucs!

  10. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Correct me if I am wrong, but the way I understand the Watson situation is, all these complaining women worked at the Massage Parlors he was known to patronize.
Now, if that is true, and he did not get the “happy ending” he had in mind, what is the big deal ?
Plus, you can BET if they had a case, he would have been charged criminally.
Girls do not work at massage parlors, because they sing too loud in church.

  11. TheBradyBunch Says:

Yes Buc’92 I had to check the date of the post to make sure I hadn’t accidentally pulled up an old post by mistake.

  12. Wild Bill Says:

Ho hum. If that is the worst thing he did not really big news. So some low life sex workers saw a chance to extort a celeb? Bigger news was the NFL team owner who got busted.

  13. allbuccedup Says:

Hopefully we won’t get him and Arians retires before he puts the organization in a bad way i.e. Cardinals. Win for a couple of years then run them into the ground.

  14. Listnfrmafar Says:

That was then this is now, now he says why would Brady who won a SB and came close in his second season just get up and call it quits? And why are so many FA’s holding out and not resigning? I’m sure many Qb’s are.thinking the same. Watson like others are probably saying the guy is old senile and abusive to his players, either striking them on national TV or throwing them under the bus after a loss. BA is no longer a attraction but more of a distraction.

    ___________

I share the same hobby as well….. except I save money by doing the manual labor myself.
I reinvest my savings into high viscosity lotion.

  16. Listnfrmafar Says:

Chris and any of you that think Watsons actions are minimal should be mentally evaluated. Not sure if you ever heard of the term Sx trafficking in your trailer parks, if not let me enlighten you, many of these women are abused and forced to perform these acts which is a disgusting thought in itself, that last thing they need is more abuse from rich children aholes like Watson. You may think they like rubbing and tugging or more on your fat arse hair back miniscule junk but my quest is they don’t. Rob, enjoy your seats if Watson comes to town knowing that he ALEDGEDLY beats on women.

  17. Mike Johnson Says:

After Watson pays all of them women off….Hire the man! Lets try to remain relevant.

  18. Buc1987 Says:

This just in….Listnfrmafar is a Pats fan.

  19. QB1 Says:

I’d hire Jamoist again before letting Watson wear a Bucs jersey. And I totally hate America’s turnover machine. But we can’t afford to bring in a guy like this, financially or ethically. QB1 must lead by example.

  20. Listnfrmafar Says:

Bucs1987, obviously you think like it’s 1987 if that’s the extent of your comments.

  21. SlyPirate Says:

The US has an extremely important maxim y’all should get reacquainted with …

    “Innocent until proven guilty.”

Watson hasn’t even been charged with a crime.
You don’t think a DA would go after a high-profile case if there was evidence?
You’re taking the word of an attorney chasing a deep pocket?

  22. Brian Garrett Says:

If Watson shows up Arians will sign an extension. You would assume that his legal issues would be settled as that seems the sticking point for any teams interested in him. But if that’s the case he just landed another Superbowl quality QB in his prime. Now the Bucs do have a decent amount of holes to fill. And who knows what getting him would even cost but you now have a franchise QB to build around again. They may have to get creative to pull it off bc they need those high draft picks but it can be done. Maybe some kind of sign and trade involving Godwin? Maybe that saves a first round pick and can maybe make another a two instead of a one. So first round pick second round pick and Godwin. Just throwing stuff at the wall so don’t blast me. But it could be very interesting if he landed there.

  23. Pickgrin Says:

“the 2017 quarterback class was special and Arians lauded the talents of Pat Mahomes and Watson”

I guess Chicago forgot to consult with someone/anyone who has a good eye for QB talent….

Paying a king’s ransom to Trade UP 1 spot and draft Trubiski with Maholmes and Watson still on the board was one of the dumbest draft moves in decades.

  24. gotbbucs Says:

My favorites are the people that don’t want Watson for “moral” reasons, but would happily bring back Jameis Winston.

One asked for happy endings and one just went ahead and skipped the formalities and took it by force.

I guess really, the biggest difference between the two is, one is actually a good NFL QB and the other isn’t. If you can’t figure out which is which, kindly bow out of the conversation.

  25. James Says:

Its like some of y’all had a hand in to the investigation of Watson, then you also sat on the jury and found him guilty and then you read the jury’s decision and agreed, he’s guilty. You folks live the most pristine lives out there and we should all bow down to you because you live the life of judge, jury and executioner! YOU DONT EVEN KNOW THE WHOLE STORY!

  26. Listnfrmafar Says:

Wow, I find it disturbing and sad that many of you would overlook these TWENTY TWO accusations to HOPEFULLY win a few football games. Whether the ACCUSATIONS are 100% factual or not have yet to be determined but there obviously has to be some truth to this or why isn’t the case been thrown out. You are also forgetting this A-HOLE held his team hostage because he didn’t get his way. Joe, you got some sick readers.

  27. RkGiardi Says:

Think Jimmy G or Wentz. Likely more realistic than massage boy. Granted massage boy can play, he’s just a PR nightmare. Already had that with CTE Brown. I doubt many will actually go after him whenever he’s got his 22 cases settled. Some will bc this is the NFL but…grab a has been QB, then when Mr red pen leaves you’ve got Trask.

  28. Celestine Fleming Says:

I don’t want to believe that most of you here haven’t heard about vortexhackers.com . Well, i just want to let you all know that everything good that people have been saying about them is true, as they helped me also with the sum of $50,000 via wire check.
