More Aaron Rodgers And Bucs Chatter

February 9th, 2022

“Tom, I hear there is a nice development called ‘Piney Point’ that is a good place to buy property. What do you know about it?”

Joe knows a lot of Bucs fans dream of drama queen Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers suiting up for Tampa Bay this fall.

Joe is not on board with that.

Now last week Joe brought up a conversation from long-time national overnight sports radio host “J.T. the Brick” on SiriusXM Mad Dog Radio. He said Rodgers would never want to come to Tampa because he would then play in Tom Brady’s shadow and his every move would be compared to Brady, who no mortal can live up to.

Well, yesterday during an appearance on “Mad Dog Unleashed,” heard exclusively on SiriusXM Mad Dog Radio, the creator, curator and overall guru of Pro Football Talk, the great Mike Florio, also brought up that Rodgers to Tampa isn’t the craziest idea.

But would it happen? In a discussion of Rodgers, Florio wondered about his fit with the Bucs.

Mike Florio: What about Tampa Bay since Brady is out? Would they trade him there…

Chris “Mad Dog” Russo: I don’t think they would.

Florio: … and would he want to go there? Would he want to follow Tom Brady in Tampa?

Russo: That’s a good question. I think that would not be his preference. That would not be his preference. But they have a lot of good players. They have good receivers. It’s a good team. I don’t know if you are Green Bay — why would you if you are Green Bay would you — unless you think this is going to be a five-year rebuild and what difference does it make? [Rodgers] only has about five years [left] anyway. By the time he is finished in Tampa then we’d be ready to win again. Maybe if you look at it from that standpoint. I would think AFC.

This is just wild. Think about that: The Packers are coming off back-to-back No. 1 seeds in the NFC and all of a sudden if they lose Rodgers they are looking at a rebuild??? That’s just crazy. Is Jordan Love that much of a project?

The reason Joe doesn’t want Rodgers (not even factoring his annual choke job in the playoffs) is that his record in warm weather sites is awful. And guess where the Bucs play their home games?

Rodgers is 1-3 against the Bucs in Tampa? One of those was leaky, sleepy Josh Freeman’s first start while wearing the creamsicles. The lone Rodgers win in Tampa was a 20-3 win in 2014, and for days afterwards Rodgers kept whining that he had a bad game and hurt his ankle because of what he considered one of the worst fields in the league. Drama!

Joe cannot imagine how much Team Glazer loot it would take to pry Rodgers out of Green Bay.

Boy, we strive for news like a Q group. Why would the packers and rodgers part? Neither of them are going to get a better situation. It’s stupid and will never happen. NFL drama season.

  2. Onetrickpony Says:

    Pass on crybaby

  3. Buczilla Says:

I know that this guy is high maintenance, but he’s easily the most talented qb that we might have a chance in hell of getting. If he played for Brady’s salary, he’d be my first choice. Wilson is a close second, but neither is going to be willing to give up their cap killing salaries.

  4. Bucs Guy Says:

Packers can keep drama queen, crybaby, choke artist, hating RJ grass Kaaron Rodgers. We don’t want him. If the Bucs are going for a QB it should be Russ, Kyler, Carr or DeShawn. The first 3 are more dependent on if their team would even consider a trade. The 4th is his legal issues. And this all assumes the cap could be worked. Most likely it’s Gabbert and Trask

No other QBs out there worth going after – Cousins, Darnell, Bridgewater, Goff, or Dalton. I heard Jake Plummer may be available. Don’t we still own his rights?

  5. #1bucsfan Says:

He’s got a mvp n a super bowl but I still don’t want drama queen rogders. People will call me crazy but give me trask over rodgers haha I know I know crazy

  6. SufferingSince76 Says:

Nah. He’s way too much Team Rodgers. Where Brady is selfless, Rodgers is the opposite. Plus, he needs a haircut and shave.

  7. lambchop Says:

Rodgers is staying put. Too much Madden-like chatter. Especially after his drama filled 2021, he’s not going to get the Brady treatment in most places. The only way he leaves is if they can’t get Davante Adams signed.

  8. Not Fake News Says:

True story: I’ve heard the Bucs are looking into Rodgers and luring him here by signing Davante Adams (they would only come together) and letting Godwin go.

  9. Defense Rules Says:

Nah, it’s not ‘wild’ Joe. Just stupid.

  10. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I hope we pass on this Karen

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Will we hear Mahomes or Burrow next?…..this is getting ridiculous. .

  12. SB~LV Says:

Talented but the personality opposite of Brady

  13. Volbuc40 Says:

    Ridiculous talk. Just Noise!

  14. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

I would take Karen in a second. We have plenty of towels here to dry his tears. Rogers did not loose the NFC Championship last year to the Bucs. That game was lost by the coaches:

end of 1st half you run an aggressive single safety high and get burned for a TD?! What idiot DC does that?!

End of game, you take the ball out of you best players hand (Rogers) and kick a FG?! Sorry, not me. IMO that was a dumb move.

Yea, Rogers whines a lot and he WINS a lot. Id take him in a heartbeat

  15. DEEEMO Says:

I personally hope drama Queen Rodgers stays in Green Bay or goes to Denver. We had enough drama here last season with AB. Look they has choked in the Playoffs year after year except the one time the made and won the Super Bowl.

  16. Winny Testaverde Says:

Much like the close but no cigar with Brett Favre…ultimately this will not happen ( or ever come close in my opinion ).

Now Ira…don’t try to break the story if not wind of Rodgers coming to Tampa a la Favre in the best calamity since “Dewey Defeats Truman”.

Joe Says: “Is Jordan Love that much of a project?”

So Joe thinks Jordan Love can take over for Rodgers in Green Bay! Interesting. Love, a two-season bench warmer, has barely played and performed lousy when he did: 2 TD, 3 INT, 31.3 QBR. He sucked. And yet he’s good-to-go to take over the No. 1 seed in the NFC, but Kyle Trask cannot take over the Bucs? Sounds like undue Love for Jordan and undue hate for Kyle, eh?

  20. Locked In Says:

“you run an aggressive single safety high and get burned for a TD?! What idiot DC does that?!”

    Bowles?

  21. New England Patriots Fan Says:

I remember when the Tom Brady signing was announced along with later the Gronk signing and I went right over to a friend and neighbour whom was a long time Tampa Fan, always wore a Tampa hat , I was excited about the moves as a long time New England Fan. My neighbour said Gronk was washed up, and he actually prefer Jamies over Brady as Brady only had a few seasons left. I then said your teams been horrible for 15 years and you signed a guy who at the time played 20y and went to 9 SB. I said it’s 50/50 your in a SB each year with Tom. Of course 8 months later he loved Brady, Gronk, AB and Lenny and the signings but it was only after they won. I think the years of trauma of losing actually makes Tampa fans hate on players as they themselves don’t think they deserve a good QB as you’ve never had one before Tom. While AR wouldn’t sign with Tampa for the same reasons Tom left, to pretend you wouldn’t want the guy is laughable.

    NE PATRIOTS FAN

You need to find a new neighbor and a new site to troll…..

  23. Hodad Says:

Joe, write a story on how our offense might look different with Gabbert under center. BL could throw a couple of RPO’s in there, with Blaine’s running ability, and a few roll outs. Maybe write about something with the Bucs that might really happen. Start by rapping your head around the fact that Gabbert will get to start the season, work from there. No Rodgers, Carr ain’t coming, the Teddy train left the tracks. Jimmy G. is not a fit for this offense, but Gabbert is, who do you thinkBA trusts more? Hint, Gabbert. Let’s have some reality based story’s.

  24. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

We’re built to win now. We’d get a couple years out of Rogers.

Trade half of this year’s draft to get him. Fill the holes with free agents.

  25. Marine Buc Says:

Hey Joe I want Aaron Rodgers as my starting QB and Russ Wilson as my backup QB…

I also want Jonathan Taylor at RB and Tyrek Hill at WR.

Then I want the entire NFC Pro Bowl Offensive line and Travis Kelce at TE.

    Yea!!! This is fun!!!

    WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!

  26. Cobraboy Says:

I guess we get more of this silly stuff during a slow news period.

  27. brooks Says:

    he’s a loser

  28. Buc4evr Says:

Like him or not, I would welcome Rodgers as he is the best chance to get back to the SB. With our receivers, assuming we re-sign Godwin, he would have all the weapons to succeed. Do I think getting Rodgers is a possibility? Nope not going to happen.

  29. tampabayallday Says:

Rodgers or Wilson, if not them then go with Trask

  30. PassingThru Says:

I sincerely doubt Rodgers will leave Green Bay. He’s kind of like that crazy girlfriend who keeps complaining and nagging, but no matter what she won’t leave you. The only reason you stick it out is because she’s hot. That’s Rodgers in a nutshell; it’s just part of his character.

I also think Rodgers would balk at following Brady. Brady is the GOAT; he helped deliver a Super Bowl win in his first season. That’s an insanely high benchmark, especially for a QB who delivers poor postseason performance.

If Tampa Bay wanted to roll the dice, Godwin would drop to a lower priority signing. Tampa Bay would need to sign Davante Adams, who will likely seek a record-breaking contract for a WR (in the mid to high $20 million range). If you get Adams, the tandem of Adams and Evans will help tempt Rodgers.

To belabor the obvious, Green Bay won’t trade him for anything less than a king’s ransom, and they’d likely prefer trading him to the AFC. In terms of assets, think multiple first-round picks as those first rounders won’t be worth that much (high finishes translate into poor drafting rights).

  31. SB Says:

Anyone using the word Karen are just perpetuating the word that can’t be used on this site.

  32. Anonymous Says:

How soon would it take one disgruntled veteran Buc player to tell or begin leaking to the press that Rodgers has NONE of the leadership qualities Tom Brady posesses which made EVERY player and employee of the Franchise WANT to play or work harder than they ever had before? Tom Brady is best known for being able to CONVINCE every player on his teams that they would come back and WIN any game despite the deficit. Aaron Rodgers has NONE of that ability bexause he was NEVER able to convince HIMSELF, IOW, he has never grown the self-confidence needed to become a clutch player. Okay, here’s a better example, have you ever seen a Brady-led Patriots or Bucs team decide to “mail it in” somewhere during the second half of a game because they were behind? Never. Why? Because their leader, Tom Brady, never let them begin to lose hope by his sheer force of will power and by his own example of fighting tooth and claw until the final play. This is the one intangible that has separated Tom Brady from every other QB in NFL history. Never underestimate the power of a consistent and focused intent.

Scientists have clearly demonstrated that the power of thought, specifically a sustained and focused intent, has the ability to manifest actual physical change during controlled experiments in a laboratory setting. Others have actually been able to summon and harness that latent ability (which we ALL possess) and use it daily. I know that this sounds farfetched but I am a retired engineer of 35+ years and I’ve always had an open but skeptical mind. I’ve followed every serious scientific inquiry into the paranormal ( a fancy word that only means “something which occurs which the scientific world has yet to understand”). My “hobby” finally led me to the 30-project that was established by the Princeton U. Dean of Engineering, Robert Jahn, in 1979. “Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research” (PEAR) was a research program that studied parapsychology. PEAR conducted formal studies on two primary subject areas, psychokinesis (PK) and remote viewing. PEAR was wildly successful, but highly controversial, at Princeton because it gored all the sacred cows of the science of physics. It was shuttered after its 30-year run and was rumored to have been taken over by a U.S. Government agency. No surprise there.

Please excuse the above discourse but I believe it was needed to fully understand the man Tom Brady. Do not get me wrong, I don’t believe that Tom realizes or fully understands and likely wouldn’t care to, any of the above. Tom just does it. An Aaron Ridgers, OTOH, being the cerebral introvert he is, would likely think to much about the entire subject which would take his mind out of the moment of the 60-minutes of sustained and focused intent needed to win any football game despite the odds.

  33. SKBucsFan Says:

Rodgers was my choice to come in after Brady retired. Although I expected in next year when both were free agents. I wouldn’t want to trade away our future for a QB at this point. We still don’t know what the unsigned free agents are planning. Trading away picks before we know what our needs are seems risky.

  34. Rod Munch Says:

Joe – I agree with a lot of your takes, but this is one of the dumbest takes ever, that you wouldn’t want Rodgers. Wow, what a stupid opinion.

  35. Bucs Win Says:

I can answer that for you munch, it’s because he’s a total D-bag crybaby.

  36. Rod Munch Says:

Bucs Win – I don’t care how much he cries and what a d-bag he is, he’s the best QB in the game, and you’re instantly, at worst, in the NFC Championship game with him.

But yeah, go 3-14 with Trask, that’s much better…

  37. steele Says:

For Rodgers (and Wilson and Cousins), a trade package would likely involve two or three first round picks, plus probably a top player. Plus Bucs would have to pay Rodgers, who I believe is also demanding Davante Adams be included in a package. So add Adams’ salary to that pile. And it’s likely a bunch of restructured contracts would also be necessary to make it work. So Rodgers plus Adams for a couple of seasons in which there will be no $ for much else.

Does this sound sane to any of you?

I am all for one of these top guys on a pure football basis, but how can it practically work?

  38. sasquatch Says:

Don’t want him, Wilson, or the masseuse predator.

  39. Christina Says:

Funny all the same people saying they wouldn’t want him, didn’t want Brady either back when that idea was being tossed around 😭
