Mike Evans: “I Cried Like A Baby”

February 11th, 2022

NBC Sports NFL insider Peter King is known for shoveling popcorn down his gullet, but he apparently loves nuts, too.

King shared a treasured peanuts story as he talked to Mike Evans this week at Super Bowl’s Radio Row, where Evans made appearances as a Planters nuts spokesman.

It was there that Evans revealed how much Tampa Bay’s playoff loss to the Rams affected him.

“After we lost to the Rams, man, it was, I cried like a baby because we lost and the way we lost, and possibly Tom’s last game. So all that factored in. It was a tough loss,” Evans said. “But I’m so happy I got to play with [Tom Brady] for these last two years, definitely life-changing and he helped the franchise out a lot.”

It sure did help the franchise. What an understatement!

Evans told King he learned of Brady’s retirement through the media but had a feeling in his gut that it would happen.

Also this week, Evans told Mike Florio, also of NBC Sports that late this season at a walk-through practice, one in which Brady had a rest day, Evans got his first taste that Brady night retire.

“He was just walking at practice one day and I asked him. I was like, ‘When do you think you’re going to retire, bro?’ And he was like, ‘Man, I really don’t know.’ And I looked in his eyes and I said [to myself], ‘It could possibly be this year.’ That’s what I took from that,” Evans explained.

Evans said that prior to that interaction, Brady would always laugh off retirement comments and say he’d be back next year.

The loss to the Rams was indeed a tough pill to swallow, particularly the way it ended. But on the positive side, the Bucs made what could of been a blowout into a very exciting game. Just didn’t end the way we wanted.

I’ve been reading Ira’s articles since he first got to the Tampa Tribune and he is my favorite sports writer. I have no doubt that he is doing his best to get Ronde in. Unfortunately, the hof process is run mostly by folks who don’t have a shred of integrity in their bones. It is what it is and the wheel of karma will bite these degenerates in the a$$ when it’s their turn to pay the piper.

losing Brady will hurt us for a long time. Wished all these unknowns were over with, regarding the whole team of who is left and who will leave

  4. adam from ny Says:

yep…brady basically slapped his balls off everyones chins…

    and gronk gets sloppy 2nds…

all you can hope for now is that he’s just doing this to grab the team reigns and let everyone within the organization that “it’s my way or the highway”…

i’m hearing tom is in negotiations with the city to change the name of the stadium from “ray jay” to “tom’s pavilion”

I think the one thing Brady hates the most is losing and he probably was thinking….”I’m never ever going to lose another game.”

Seen the Twitter posts on last two blog posts. Do y’all also just get so sadly discouraged and frustrated at the quick deterioration of how we interact with each other. Face to face, over the phone, texting, social media responses. It grows old on this soul, daily. Yes Sir! I am a full grown man, and I will learn to deal with it. Like it NO! Deal with it, what choice do any of us have?

  7. Mike Johnson Says:

Nothing tough about the loss. If you watched the game, you know we got beat by one hellava Defense. Just like them Bengals are gonna find out. Had we started much quicker and faster…..

    waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

  9. Swampbuc Says:

Let’s look for a new job the same week we’re preparing to face the best receiver in the NFL and the best QB against the blitz. Then let’s devise a gameplan that goes blitz heavy lmost 3/4 of the time.

Then when the game hangs in the balance, let’s leave the NFL’s best receiver single covered or not covered, abnd blitz everyone including the waterboy to no effect. Genius. No wonder Tom retired.

    No wonder Mike cried.

    Thanks, Todd.

  10. Bird Says:

    Evan’s is a class act…

  12. Buc-it Says:

Bitch ass Saints fan has absolutely no life whatsoever. I bet he’s unemployed, living in his parents house.

  13. Buc-it Says:

How many of you think the Saints fan is unemployed and still lives with mommy and daddy? Dude has no life whatsoever

  14. Listnfrmafar Says:

Mike, you weren’t the only one that cried! Bowles is crying now, that BS excuse of a coaching effort insured he will remain in BA’s shadow. Licht should negotiate his salary down.

  15. Defense Rules Says:

Catcard202 … ‘Evans is a class act’. Yes he is.

Swampbuc & Listnfrmafar? Not so much. Stop the whining about Todd Bowles. Losing, like winning, is always a TEAM effort.

  16. Ed Says:

I think Brady’s decision was based on family most of all. Also I think he looked at the horrific schedule next year and the possible loss of free agents and decided it would be an even tougher task to win it all next year, and it just wasn’t worth it. I hope he sticks to his decision and stays retired, as much as I will miss rooting for him every Sunday. Seems like a much bigger chance of having a mediocre season or getting injured than winning it all.

  17. Jason from JA Says:

    Rams LOSS ..
NO WIRFS, No Perriman, No Grayson, anymore starters were OUT?
    The protection was sub-standard.

Lenny back off injury, No ROJO. Gronk didn’t have his best game, Donnie had a bad game.

We were always playing catch up.

  18. ModHairKen Says:

Mike Evans is such a great person. God bless him. We fans are so fortunate to watch him play. But the Tampa community is even more fortunate to have him living here.

Please let him be a Buc for Life.

  19. Nicholas Carlson Says:

Mike Evans is a top 5 Buccaneer all time

    Derrick Brooks
    Ronde Barber
    Warren Sapp
    Mike Evans
    Tom Brady

  20. Swampbuc Says:

I haven’t even started to criticize Todd’s Bowels yet. I’m just getting warmed up. Don’t read it if you don’t like it. Stop complaining about our complaining!

I’m with you 100% man. I think that was the kick in the stomach that sent TB12 packing.

  22. Swampbuc Says:

Homer, I think your dad took over for Todd while he was interviewing. The way the D played, they looked like the Chinese Firedrill in the beginning of an episode where they’re all scrambling for a prime seat on the couch. That was the blitz package.

  23. bucfan34 Says:

Mr. Carlson, you left out # 63!?!?!? Look him up if you don’t know who he is…

  24. Listnfrmafar Says:

DR, you are correct a team effort, the team got the game tied and Bowles screwed them ALL with 26 seconds left. Do your job, what you are paid for. Brady referenced himself when he said now is not the time to go to movies, now is the time for football. PREPARATION! DR, who do you think he was referring to?

  25. Tony Says:

This was the worst defense called at that moment in the game.

  26. Eric b Says:

Yup saints SAINTS FAN is at home screaming for his laundry from mama, those pricks took out our players on purpose, hmmm…they did do that before right ?? Paying players to hurt other players for money??? Yeah WORST DEFENSIVE CALL EVER!!!!!! HOW are you going to leave cooper kupp single covered??? And all out blitz?? Why????? Why???? All we had to do was take it in over time, and they knew what time it was, they had no choice, NO CHOICE BUT TO GO DEEP WTF

  27. Swampbuc Says:

More Bowels of Todd outrage please. Somehow it’s soothing to a wounded soul and you know damn well. the Bucs players are feeling it too.

Brady quit. Because of Bowles’ unconscionable release.

Brady retired to spend more time with a Brazilian/German…..(do the math on that family lineage…..)?????????????? Really? Naaaa.

The Horsefaced Commandant has plans for Brady that Brady is already thinking “football is less work and more fun.”

Let’s hope that Licht can get to the bottom of the rumors that Brady still wants to play but doesn’t want to play for a team whose coaches work a lot less hard than he does,
