Heck no. Now if he wants 20 plus per year I would and make him prove that he is not injury prone (significant time missed three years running) and tag him again for 19 per.
Put together a good contract for him, then let him see if he could match it. I am not sure he can, because of his knee questions.
If he takes the offer, fine. If he doesn’t, let the door hit him on the way out; too many other holes to be filled and Grayson might be able to step up again.
I’ll take option D. Sign him long term 17-18 million a year average. Give him a fat signing bonus and guarantee a lot of the $ to keep the yearly cap hit low. They should be able to keep the yearly cap hit under 10m/y.
If they did have to franchise Godwin, then you can kiss most of the other FA’s goodbye, because they really need a deal where they can get Godwin’s salary down to like $5m for cap purposes.
They can keep a bunch of guys by using trickery, but you do have to pay for those tricks later.
That’s why I’m OK with tanking this year if need be, just going with Trask, taking the full hit of Brady’s retirement on this years cap, and just focusing on resigning Godwin and Whitehead.
Let him go and get the cap and comp
He is not a great player
He’ll need a great QB
Uncertainty about his injury
That said… I really like him going back to when he was only a draftee before his first camp

If the Bucs don’t tag him, I fear they will lose him.

Um no

I said yes because no one really knows how he is dealing with his injury and he is not expected back until game 6 or 7 of the 2022 season?

They should do everything possible to sign him before free agency, but another franchise designation is a bad idea. Players really don’t like that.

No.
Sign him long term. Now.

He most definitely IS a “great player”. What are you talking about?
