Could An Intriguing Candidate Have Just Surfaced?

February 7th, 2022

Quarterback “crootin?'”

OK, Joe will just get this out of the way. Anyone over 50 who doesn’t have social media, doesn’t use social media or simply has no idea why social media exists (yeah, Joe’s looking right at you, Ira!), be prepared to be triggered, angered and outraged.

Those who use social media will understand.

Today, Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray made news when he scrubbed his Instagram account of everything, including all Cardinals-related references. This is often, for those under 50, a sign that a player is really fed up and peeved at his employer and is looking for a way out.

Or perhaps a new contract.

It’s sort of what those who use Instagram do when they break up with their significant other: delete every reference to him/her.

Murray only left two photos up on his Instagram feed, and one story, a re-share of Mike Evans saying how he always wanted to catch a touchdown pass from “the Texas legend” (Murray).

Murray is right up there with Johnny Football as being as close to a Texas football god as the 21st century has seen.

What was Evans referring to? Yesterday in the Pro Bowl, Evans Mossed Denzel Perryman on a throw from Murray for a touchdown.

So it seems Murray is peeved at the Cardinals. And Evans clearly likes Murray. Oh, and Evans needs a quarterback. Was Evans doing some “crootin'” in Las Vegas last week?

If you don’t understand how this is a story, you just confessed that you are old, Grandpa. Hurry, you may catch a “Gunsmoke” rerun on TV Land to add to your VCR collection before you hit the Monday earlybird.

    Please no! He’s so soft

  2. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

What is this Social Media that you speak of Joe. Can I find it in classified section of my local news paper? It get’s delivered to my drive way at about 4:52 a.m tomorrow morning.

  3. Robert Says:

changes social media account……HE’S COMING TO TAMPA BAY- YEAH

he probably was just trying to check his email.

  4. voice of reason Says:

    please YES! pure excitement!

  5. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Murray could still be an option in Tampa if Cousin, Watson etc not available, but his Team will want picks as he’s young and was good for much of the year.

  6. sasquatch Says:

I don’t see him as an Arians QB… unless they redesign the offense for him. What are the chances.

The limit of 1/x as x approaches infinity. #math

  7. zzbucs Says:

I am proud of not using Social media….like Ira…..The sage….
Joe, how expensive would that be?

  8. sasquatch Says:

Also, isn’t it kind of a douche move to unfollow your own team while still under contract? What the hell did they do to him? Phouecking spoiled athletes think they have it so hard.

    Don’t want him.

  9. Joe Says:

Can I find it in classified section of my local news paper?

    🙂

  10. Joe Says:

Joe, how expensive would that be?

If you value being informed, then not having/using social media is quite expensive.

  11. PassingThru Says:

There are several other ways to be informed tha social toxic circus media Sir….FYI

  13. Joe Says:

James Arness’ niece (in other words Peter Graves’ daughter) used to cheat by copying my math answers in grade school.

    CLASSIC! 🙂

That’s almost as good as one of Stan Kroenke’s daughters getting kicked out of USC for paying people to do her homework assignments, sort of Rodney Dangerfield in “Back to School.”

  14. Duane Says:

Let the hype build. I think there are a bunch of signal callers that would take a chance in Tampa. Evans, Godwin, and Fournette should be enticing to go along with the O line. To me the smaller Qbs like Wilson and Murray fade towards the end of the season. Cousins feels like the second coming of Brad Johnson to me, and he knows how to get the ball to high calibre receivers.

  15. Adrnagy Says:

We need a punter and kick returner.

  16. Joe Says:

There are several other ways to be informed tha social toxic circus media Sir….FYI

In the 21st century? Joe doesn’t think so. Not fully informed. Joe is shocked when he speaks with some folks, otherwise highly intelligent folks, who don’t use social media how behind they are.

As Joe used to tell his brother, “You can choose to keep up with technology or you can choose to get run over by technology. I choose to keep up with technology.”

  17. rrsrq Says:

Almost any QB can succeed with the whole armor of the QB room (the whisperer, the Leftwich, the Moore, the Christiansen). Surely Kyler would become a pocket passer.

  18. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

I get my information from the National Enquirer – it has never failed me and is never wrong. Mocial Sedia….pffftt!

  19. zzbucs Says:

    @ Joe…

    Well, good luck with that…….

But regarding my original question, how expensive would that be? Was regarding Murray and the trade not social media……Just wanted to know your opinion on it……..LOL!!!!

  20. Adrnagy Says:

    Kamara will be suspended.

Its our division to lose next year.

    NO! NO! NO! NEVER!

  23. Bqen green Says:

Ben still watches beta Max tapes, so not sure what you’re referring to Joe. A faster Doug flutie doesn’t really move the needle for Ben. Once he loses even half a step (which still makes him incredibly fast) he’s going to get his head ripped off, even with all the QB protections. Shoot higher Joe. The bucs have a Superbowl caliber roster. Ben understands the league is horny for QBs that run all over the place, but great quarterbacking still takes place in the pocket. Ben won’t deny the tremendous advantage of a mobile QB, but most of these guys can’t throw consistently from the pocket. A smart D coordinator will just mush rush all day. The AFC title game is a great example. The Bengals didn’t over pursue, and made Patty beat them from the pocket. He, like most running QBs can struggle when defended this way.

  24. Joe Says:

But regarding my original question, how expensive would that be? Was regarding Murray and the trade not social media…

    LOL!!! Sorry about that.

Well, Murray is under his rookie contract. Might be a couple (just guessing, could be totally offbase) first round picks. But to get a franchise quarterback who is still young? Doesn’t seem like an awful lot.

If Murray really is trying to muscle his way out of Arizona, trust Joe, Team Glazer is monitoring.

  25. Ash Says:

Feel like it’s a nothing burger they made the playoffs are an up in coming team so they trade away their dynamic quarterback seriously doubt it sound like wishful thinking.

  26. sasquatch Says:

Surely Kyler would become a pocket passer.

He’s only 5’10” … so he can’t see over the line. There’s a reason all the shrimpy QBs want to get outside the pocket.

And my name’s not Shirley 🤣🤣🤣

  27. PassingThru Says:

Yep, AZ would have to agree to trade him here.

Prior to the trade, Licht would have to be given the green light by AZ to talk to Murray and his agent, lest it be tampering. An extension would have to be worked out in advance. Why?

    1. You want to avoid selling the farm for a one year QB

    2. You’d reduce his future cap hit as the new agreement would come into effect immediately, rather than at the end of next season.

  28. sasquatch Says:

A couple of first rounders Joe? I don’t see that as a reasonable ransom for a guy who isn’t even that good. And he fumbles.

I’d rather take my chances with Trask, and use those #1 picks on defensive players.

  29. Tye Says:

Insert Brady’s comments about the 49ers before becoming a Bucc in this situation…

‘You going with that _______________!’ LoL

2nd worst suggestion, slightly behind Watson… The better QBs have significant size for a reason…

  30. Pewter Power Says:

Still reads like a non story. He’s not not going anywhere as he is the only reason the cardinals are relevant. No dots connect at all but it does get people to read the article. He is the furthest thing from a pocket quarterback and a fit for this system.

  31. unbelievable Says:

That would cost us quite a bit I would imagine…

Plus would Arizona trade to another NFC team? (unlikely, but you never know)

  32. gotbbucs Says:

    He’s not that good.

  33. Tony Says:

We need to stock up on as many picks as possible. Even if it means trading down in the draft some. Could use at least one more OL, at least one maybe two CBs, another S, probably another TE, probably another WR, another DE, another DT & then depending on how they feel about a QB & RB. I’m just iffy on QBs coming out of Florida because none of them seem to make it. Tebow, Wuerffel, Grossman, Leak, Palmer, etc.

  34. SKBucsFan Says:

Is this the same social media that said a cattle de-worming agent will kill a virus? Hahahaha

I’ll wait until it’s confirmed in a real report.

  35. Marine Buc Says:

When Kyle M. is healthy is is tough to beat.

But he is only healthy 55%-65% of the season.

If he is your starting QB then you better have the best backup QB in the league.

  36. Alanbucsfan Says:

Murray has identical passing stats to Derek Carr and is a better runner.
The Bucs are a playoff team with Murray.

  37. Anonymous Says:

Just saw where Murray posted on MySpace that he was traded to TB
Early entry for Comment Of The Year right here. LOL –Joe

  38. xdptoddx Says:

This the same kid who couldn’t answer a single question with Dan Patrick before the draft and can’t see over his linemen? No thanks.

  39. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Before it’s over, we’ll end up with a story speculating on probably over 40 quarterbacks….

And…..sure, Mike Evans is “crootin” Murray…..then goes back to Tampa and tells Trask “I’m really looking forward to catching passes from you”

  40. Vsyl Says:

I defended Trask all this time, but I would love to see Murray here.

  41. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

WE can dream, but no way will Arizona let Murray go.

  42. BigPoppaBuc Says:

@Vsyl…. I think I have to agree. I’ve had nine toes on the Trask train so far but this would be interesting. The injury frequency doesn’t really bother me much as that would further the development of Trask. The contract would be the biggest question. Would Murray scoff at an incentive based prove it contract that covers the Bucs’ ass if he’s still just hurt often?
Think the QB shuffle is going to be wild this off-season. Who the hell knows who will become available at this point.

  43. cmurda Says:

Joe pulled out all the stops to try to convince the masses that this is a story. Those over 50 need not worry. Nothing to see here. Just the crybaby reaction from today’s social media generation. Avoid controversy and being a man and speaking to somebody and instead put a sad face symbol on social media and play keyboard warrior when you aren’t happy. Stomping your feet is optional. LOL. Nice try though Joe. I respect the effort.

  44. Joe in Michigan Says:

I thought you were going to say that Mike Evans wants Johnny Manziel as his QB again.

  45. Thomas Edrington Says:

Murray can’t cut it once D-coordinators figure him out and they did!!!

  46. David Says:

For those saying no, you must understand that he is still very young and learning. Plus, here in Tampa he would not have to scramble for his life before passing the vast majority of the time. If there is a potential to get him I would easily take him over anyone that’s a free agent.
I would definitely take him over Aaron Rodgers.
It would be close with Russell Wilson but I would go with Murray because he’s 10 years younger than Wilson

    Basically that would be awesome!

  47. Bucs&Bolts Says:

It’s cool if we got him, I think he’ll have a hard time adjusting to BA offense but he has potential!

  48. David Says:

People need to realize that the reason Murray gets hurt is Arizona’s offensive line is not very good and he has to run a lot. He does look to throw first though. Here in Tampa he would not have to run nearly as much which means much more healthy.

About the only two potentially better or equivalent options are Russell Wilson and Watson. Both of them have 40+ million dollar a year contracts and/or legal issues. Then of course there is the annoying significant other of Russell Wilson. So yeah, I would take Murray in a heartbeat

  49. Gerinda Says:

I thought it was hilarious 🤣

  50. Cobraboy Says:

    5’10”.

That’s the long and “short” of it.

  51. crazyBucs_CL Says:

    Gabbert; after considering many dis-favorable variables to go with other QBs, looks like is going to be Gabbert;
BA, which if he choose for, he can be here for two more years 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️(you got to be kidding me..), loves this guy.
    A local reporter’s words:
“.. No other quarterback has a better grasp of Arians’ system than Gabbert does…”
    boy o boy…🙄

  52. WalkdaPlank Says:

I’d be completely on board with this. I was super skeptical of Murray coming out of college and he has proved the doubters wrong. Only issue is his health, but when healthy he is almost unstoppable.

  53. Defense Rules Says:

zzbucs … There are several other ways to be informed than social toxic circus media’.

The key word in that statement zzbucs isn’t so much ‘toxic’ as it is ‘circus’. Yes the various social media platforms are favorite ways to spread toxic malware, but IMO it’s how misused those platforms are to spread misinformation AND disinformation that creates the real ‘circus’. Rather than being used to ‘inform’ as Joe proclaims, it’s far too often used to manipulate the purported ‘facts’ & to spread false claims & downright lies. There’s a reason why social media has become a favorite vehicle of politicians from both parties to spread their ‘information’.

  54. Vsyl Says:

The guys here that say no to any option that presents itself, probably thought that brady wouldn’t be good two years ago.

  55. HC Grover Says:

The Great Buc QB Sweepstakes. Up next Mahomes and Burrows.

  56. Alstott up the gut Says:

This is an option that must be considered! His collapse last year has people soured (and I get that), but this has tremendous long-term potential! Echoes of Keyshawn and Sapp at an all star game loaded with Bucs players. Very intrigued, based on all options right now.

  57. Mike Johnson Says:

I like Murray. He’s quick and has a nice release. But..it seems as the season wears along, he gives out of gas somewhat. He’s great the 1st half, then he just fizzles. Nope let him stay in zona. If that coach they got does not deliver this upcoming season, he gonna be packin bags.

  58. cmurda Says:

Just to be clear. I would be thrilled to have Kyler here. I just think it would be laughable that AZ would be throwing in the towel on a guy that already has that team winning its division and without its star WR too. The difference between the offensive weapons Kyler has there versus what he would have here is night and day. Kingsbury sold his soul for Kyler. He lives and dies with the kid. Why on Earth would that team sell low on Kyler? Makes zero sense.

  59. SlyPirate Says:

    THE GOOD NEWS …
Watson, Wilson, Rodgers, Murray. Multiple options that keep Tampa competitive.

    THE BAD NEWS …
It’s going to take multiple 1sts to get any of them.

  60. alaskabuc Says:

We might actually have an o-line that could keep Murray healthy into the post season, hard to see him holding up for the season no matter who is blocking for him if he is plugged into the “no risk it, no bisquit” system. If Bruce adjusts his philosophy to take advantage of a player with this type of skillset I am all in. Rather see us chase Russ in this hypothetical dream world, at least that way we still have a QB after the first sack.

  61. Irishmist Says:

Houston just hired Lovie Smith as their new head coach. Now that’s affirmative action.

  62. FirstTimePoster Says:

THIS IS NOT MADDEN! JUST STOP WITH THIS FANTASY GARBAGE! yes, I’m yelling.

  63. KnoxvilleBuc Says:

Gonna have to pass on Murray. Couldn’t even get a decent pass off in the pro bowl. Too many batted balls and interceptions.

  64. Brent Clark Says:

He needs BA and BL love this kid has “it” just needs to be groomed don’t care about his height but his HEART…. Let’s go get him Go Bucs!!!!!

  65. ModHairKen Says:

Kyler and Kyle. Yeah. Love it. Look, Murray is the fastest QB in memory. He could come in and take this team to 10-7. Why not?

  66. August 1976 Buc Says:

If they could get Murray, then why not.

Glazers “Hey Jason get Greenberg on the numbers and have a contract ready in case the situation arises to be able to sign Kyler.”
    JL “Ok consider it done”

Just a slight upgrade, lol over the conversation about Trubisky- Cousins and other possible QB’s for the Bucs during this talent cycle of personnel on the Bucs

  67. stpetebucsfan Says:

I get the power of social media but it’s too time consuming for me. I just come to sites like this and let others do the editing for me. IE I respect what it means I’m must too lazy or too busy to mess with it.

There was a site on FB dedicated to listeners of the radio station I worked for in the late 70’s. Older folks reliving their youth when they listened to the morning guy on a rock station. My EGO drove me to view those posts. LMAO

Otherwise I agree with the late Betty White on SNL when she said she didn’t get FB…it reminded her of being invited to friends houses to watch their home vacation moves…BORING. Yeah and I get that FB is passe and you’re talking more Instagram and others.

As for the story…I’m not impressed. I agree with Tony…NO more draft picks for a QB this year. Let’s first find out if we wasted a 2nd last year.

This year we can turn a very good defense into an elite defense with the right draft…again one mock had us taking the A&M DL beast first with the MIss St CB 2nd…I like that! Our defense is close to being REALLY REALLY good! Lets finish that while we can…check out Trask/Gabbert keep our OL in tact and if we can keep Playoff Lennie awesome. CG14 would be the icing but I’m not holding my breath. The only chance I see for retaining him is a short term contract with lots of incentives for him to prove his knee is good to go. He can cash in the year after if it is.

DEFENSE baby…that’s where the action is next season for the Bucs.

  68. Adrnagy Says:

    We cannnot waste our roster.

    Our roster is good.

  69. Juergensen Says:

Joe obviously will take anyone to stop Trask from starting. I knew Joe went to FSU.

  70. Juergensen Says:

Listed at 5’10”. So he’s 5’9”. Can’t see over an NFL line. Trask is exactly 6’5.25”, taller than most linemen. It hasn’t occurred to you haters that this is one reason why he sees the field so well.

  71. EEK Says:

    100% yes!

  72. steele Says:

Doubt seriously the Cards let him go. Everything else is speculation and a stretch. Except perhaps that Kyler wants a new contrack.

  73. Jerseybuc Says:

Wow. Major troll job here. Murray is not a playoff QB. Check his numbers first half vs second half. Looked downright scared in playoff loss. Nah…

  74. bucschamp Says:

    he’s scared like darden

  76. Tbbucs3 Says:

Lol at people saying no to Murray. As if we have that many options. Why not take a pro bowl QB?

  77. steele Says:

Blaine Gabbert is a mediocre backup, who deserves to be a backup. Look at his Niners performances. That’s his ceiling.

  78. SB~LV Says:

As good as any other speculation, one of the more intriguing notions. I went to see him because it was him his rookie year when he came to Tampa. He is a little thicker now, other than that I don’t know.

Why call people haters because of bringing up other QB’s. I have no opinion about Trask either way. Trask did well in College, but in the Pro game he has no experience yet. I am all for bringing in Murray and let them show on the field what they can do in competition. I unlike many others I liked that they picked Trask last year. To get a QB to be around that 2021 QB room and seeing Brady all the time. But that does not mean, that you cannot can bring a decent QB like a Murray, you do it. Jurg you are right about the height issue with Murray, you have to create throwing lanes with your blocking schemes. If Trask can beat out whoever then great, but to not be bound to a QB like Trask a total unknown with no NFL experience on the Field. I hope that Trask can be a good QB, time will tell. But the NFL is all about competition. May whoever is best Trask or someone else win. Makes no difference to me.
As a fan since 1976 of the Bucs and the NFL, I am long past caring what school a player went to, I have no preference. Seeing the Bucs lose with whoever was playing, gets you past any stupid preferences where a player comes from. I have been a fan of FSU since 1979. But so what. Do not really care if Trask came from the University of Timbuktu lol. What matters to me is what Trask or any player on the Bucs does as a Buc. Again long past caring what school a player came from, after watching so many losses over the years.

    GO BUCS!!!!!!!

  81. MDFree Says:

I like it. I also really like the idea of brining Cousins to town. Think that’s Arians kind of guy and could really make a star out of him. Look what he did to Carson Palmers career.

  82. Joe Says:

    This:

Lol at people saying no to Murray. As if we have that many options.

  83. steele Says:

Two QBs to look at in the draft: Carson Strong, Sam Howell. Both have good arms. Strong is a pocket QB. Howell has a cannon arm, is really aggressive with it (sometimes too), and he can also run.

The bargain route is to draft Corral, Strong or Howell. Let them compete with Trask for the start. Sign a veteran backup (not necessarily Gabbert).

This is the low expectation long-term scenario that might require revisiting again.

  84. Rod Munch Says:

I’d take Murray in a second, anyone who disagrees with that is a Florida fanboy who is already putting Trask in the HOF.

But there’s nothing to get excited over, Murray isn’t going anywhere.

  85. T REX Says:

Hell no. It would cost at least two 1’s and two 2’s.

    No way.

    Rebuild.

Get rid of everyone and start over.

The window closed Brady retired. Hanging on will only make the rebuild harder.

  86. LakelandSteve Says:

If anyone thinks the Cardinals are going to let him go after the year they had this year you are smoking something. He probably is wanting the cards to renegotiate his contract or something. The problem is if the Cards let him go then they are without a quality starting QB. Ain’t happening

  87. steele Says:

I’m tending to agree, TRex. Just go youth all the way. Total rebuild.

The chance of them landing an immediate-SB QB is low. The free agent QB list is horrendous—I have confidence in NONE of them. A trade would not only be costly, but dicey. Honestly, how many truly great QBs are there to trade for?

  88. Deano Says:

    Kyle Trask!!!

  89. August 1976 Buc Says:

Why total rebuid?? That can wait a year at least if you are going to do that. There are no assurances to just going full on youth movement.
The Bengals and the Rams represent both ways.
Free Agency- or Mainly through the draft
The Rams are there for the 2nd time in 4 years
You can win either way, but you had better have a good Qb.

The Bucs won 2 super bowls by making a big move, Traded for Gruden, and Brady came. Neither one was won by the Bucs the conventional way of getting a great QB and building the team. lol The Bucs tried that with Jameis, and we see how that worked. I mean they tanked and everything to get the 1st overall pick.
They got it but in the end it was just as much a crap shoot as going the free agency way to win a Championship.

Somewhere I can hear Al Davis saying “JUST WIN BABY!!!!” lol

The talent cycle the Bucs have right now is something to use to go for it, not pack it all up ,and go youth movement yet.
That can always be done next year.

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  90. Ben Harvey Says:

I can’t see Murray coming over. I still think the Bucs are intrigued by Trask. I understand he may not be ready to start, but signing a guy Luke Murray or another young QB would mean Trask is out of the picture. I think they want to bridge the gap in the interim with a mediocre QB and see what they have with Trask in 2023,24 season.

  91. Bucs Win Says:

K1 is too tiny, he hasn’t played a full season yet, people don’t injure less a they age. He’s decent but again to many injuries.

  92. Bucs Win Says:

BTW Joe, we all know y’all are North of 50, so why you hating on yourselves? lol

  93. Dom>Licht Says:

Mahomes, Burrow , Josh Allen , Lamar …. Who y’all gonna throw out there next?
