“A Lot Of Moving Parts”

February 20th, 2022

The top Texans insider talks about QB Deshaun Watson and his potential new homes.

Who knows more about the Houston Texans than iconic local sportswriter John McClain?

Nobody outside the organization.

So Joe was intrigued to hear McClain this week talking about creepy, sleazy star Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson and the stuff “hanging over his head” during a visit to WDAE radio.

McClain, who has 50 years in the business and already is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a writer, referenced the Houston police investigation into Watson, potential grand jury involvement and a future NFL suspension as issues “hanging over Watson.” And McClain added “at one point the FBI looked into it,” noting Watson has “a lot of moving parts” to his pending issues tied to 22 women accusing him of various forms of sexual misconduct via a civil suits.

Most interesting to Joe was McClain strongly doubting Watson’s willingness to settle the civil cases since he didn’t do it last year to facilitate a trade to the Dolphins. And McClain also suspects no team will trade for Watson until there is a resolution.

For Bucs fans hungry to trade for the young quarterback, McClain noted “Watson loves Florida” and he believes the Bucs could be an ideal fit for Watson. But McClain also said Watson has friends on the Broncos roster and the Panthers play two hours from his hometown — and they’re two teams with more better draft capital to give Houston.

McClain speculated that the Bucs drafting at No. 27 overall would hurt them greatly when it comes to trading for Watson. He believes other teams will offer better compensation than the Bucs would.

Didn’t we learn our lesson with the last two low character players ? Watson would just bring bad karma and the situation would explode at some point. After Brady, Not sure I could support this guy if he becomes a Buc. I would rather just let Gabbert or Trask start…..

  2. WalkdaPlank Says:

Who knew the dude from Die Hard was in the Hall of Fame?

  3. tampabuscsbro Says:

Buc4ever didn’t you hear from the resident Gators fan. Kyle Trask was worse then Rex Grossman bailed out by talent around him (although mac jones turned out okay). It’s not like him and a TE’s efforts kept Dan Mullen employed longer then he should have been.

  4. Marine Buc Says:

Watson is due to make $40.4 million.

Even if we work a trade for him (which is doubtful with pick #27) we will have a difficult time paying him unless he agrees to restructure his contract which is another hurdle…

Too many hurdles – not to mention the 22 lawsuits for being a sexual predator.

  5. adam from ny Says:

not so sure you want watson running your team if he is sort of secretly blacklisted by goodell and the nfl…

meaning, yeah he can play in the league, but we wont spotlight the dude, he wont get any calls like the brady rules, and we certainly wont let him win a superbowl and then become the face of the nfl for basically a full year…

so be careful with what you wish for…

do you think any time soon goodell wants this guy being the face of the nfl?

    think about that…

maybe the face of a small market franchise by the florida bay, but not the whole league…

if the superbowl is in any way contrived and controlled, this dude will never see a ring…or at least not until his situation is so far and long forgotten that people can barely remember it even occurred…

    so forget this dude…………..seriously

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Deshaun Watson turned the “Me Too” movement into the “Me Twenty-Two” movement……

  7. geno711 Says:

    @Adam

    I agree.

  8. NPRSageBoy Says:

This guy has more baggage than Samsonite. Better to stick with Jimmy GQ or Carson Wentz. BA’s only veteran “failure” was JayMiss. I’m ready to roll the dice and see in there’s another Carson Palmer in that group.

    Peace, out

  9. Listnfrmafar Says:

Watson NEVER won and he had Hopkins the best WR in the league at that time along with Watts, Clooney, Merciless, Wilfolk etc. They had a great D and good offense. He’s NOT that good. Stop drooling over this guy. Over paid and overrated.

  10. geno711 Says:

Besides his unfavorable contract, the Bucs and the fans will also have to deal with more details out in the allegations against him.

Go read the timeline of DeShaun off this site. Joe has not let me publish some of them here which is fine with me.

Agree with the theory of innocent until proven guilty. But there is plenty out there to read to decide for yourself whether there was just agreeable consensual sex or some other acts out that there that scare you as a fan.

  11. Destinjohnny Says:

Am I crazy to say I’d rather take a flyer on Trask then have this guy ?

  12. Marine Buc Says:

    @ adam

    That is an interesting take…

    I agree.

    Gabbert/Trask

  13. Niles Says:

I say go total scum and get both Dassault Watson AND Jamoist Winston!

  14. BigPoppaBuc Says:

It’s just too messy. This dude could wind up behind bars for all we know. I’d much rather let the affordable vet battle with Trask.

  15. allbuccedup Says:

I say none of the teams should talk to houston about a trade until hes cleared of all the charges and completed any suspensions. Let the texans let him sit another year. Then next year they can release him. I would not give even one first round pick for a player with this much baggage. Like someone else said you don’t know when number 23, 24, 25 etc. Is going to show up.

  16. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Yeah Adam, that is something always to think about there clearly are blackballed organizations and players, and if your not home getting the calls or at least getting balanced treatment your not winning anything even if your Brady.

But on the other hand like WWE the NFL does love Heels. AR was the Heel for 2021 and got an MVP.

And Watsons been investigated by NFL, as the NFL security at Houston were people who leaked the story in first place. He wasn’t even put on commissioner except, as they just want him to settle, trade and play again. If they didn’t want him in the league more dirt would’ve come out like Meyer or Gruden situation and he would be turned into a Ray Rice, Kap type guy so he would leave for a few years.

This clearly was a intraorganization power play where they ratted out their own QB when he got power hungry for control and seeked a trade.

QB got ego and his own team went nuclear option rather then concede power and blew up in boths faces. Houston’s been bad for 2 years and won’t get better until they draft or trade a replacement franchise quarterback.

  17. Tbbucs3 Says:

If we acuire Watson….not only would it be a terrible PR hit from the Bucs (an organization that recently bounce Gruden from the ring of honor for decade old emails)….but also from a football standpoint, we would turn into the 2019 Texans.

  18. Tbbucs3 Says:

On the other side, I dont understand the Gabbert/Trask argument unless we plan to tank.

Sign a FA QB who actually has NFL starting experience within the last 5 seasons.

  19. Anonymous Says:

    DeSHUN Watson

  20. New England Patriots Fan Says:

The only real option to compete for a playoff run if Watson, AR, Wilson, Brady are off the market for Tampa, is trading for and paying 40/y for Carr of Cousins as both are up for contracts within 1 year and the average. For the top 10 average non rookie QB contracts the average at 35m/y, with Mahomes Allen Dak and Watson making about 40-45m season.

AR is looking to make 40m/y also next year, wherever he plays. Wilson is also staying for the 40-45/m year raise.

Murray himself deleted his photos on IG because he wanted the Mahomes Allen deal after year 3.

Carrs and Cousins new contracts they will want at least the value paid to Dak was over payed at 40m/season which because of the QB talent pool they could actually may command that.

By the end of 2022 there will likely be at least 7 or more vet QBs averaging 40m/y +, and 5 good QBs on rookie deal.

So unless Tampa is drafting a rookie, they will need to pay 40m/y for a franchise QB.

  21. Tye Says:

IF I were a betting man, I would bet if Watson is traded to an NFC team, Redskins (WFT; Commies or whatever they are going by today)…
If he goes to an AFC team, Steelers!

  22. Show Me the TDs Says:

The Bucs have two female coaches and a male cheerleader. In the NFL world they’re about as woke as you can get. There’s no way they acquire Watson.

  23. Buc1987 Says:

What we need on JBF is MORE Patriots fans and what they think about our franchise.

  24. Buc4evr Says:

Tampabucsbro, I know, I’m a gator fan… lol. The first rule of the draft is never ever draft a UF QB. Grossman did make it to the SB, but like you said he had a great defense. Watching him play was about on par with Dilfer.

Did I like the fact that Trask was drafted by the Bucs? Nope, dumb move. But I’d still rather start Trask then trade for Watson. Watson would be a disaster from a PR standpoint and a team standpoint. Hard pass.

  25. Niles Says:

    “Buc4evr Says:
The first rule of the draft is never ever draft a UF QB.“

That’s what morons said about Southern Miss and Delaware too.

  26. Christos Says:

I think Watson has something like a No-trade clause in his contract. So the compensation Houston gets is an aspect in a possible trade but Houston cant decide solely which offer is the best. Watson must agree about the team too

  27. BuxfaninTX Says:

Come on Lovie WILL not make the deal with Jason Licht…

Buc4ever didn’t you hear from the resident Gators fan. Kyle Trask was worse then Rex Grossman”

Another stupid FSU fan. Trask crushed all UF passing records. In a 10-game all-SEC season no less.

  29. Bqen green Says:

The bucs would have to blow the Texans away.

  30. Stephen Says:

I assume all of you people on this blog are blameless! Yall pure as the snow right? I wonder if we take a look at your browser what would we find? Or what have you done in your past that would dwarf these allegations that these “hoes for hire” insinuating

  31. Bobby M. Says:

I think for the Bucs to realistically have a shot, a few things will have to happen.

    1. The Bucs must keep the offense together as best as possible to remain appealing to Watson…..which will mean somehow keeping Godwin and Fournette.

    2. Bucs will likely have to package a starter plus rotational player with picks….I’m thinking Lovie/Texans might be enticed by a few defensive players. Maybe we throw OJ Howard or Brate in the mix. To land a young franchise QB….would Bucs be willing to unload D. White or Winfield or JTS?

I think its going to take a package of players already under contract to make the scenario possible. Bucs HAVE to free up cap space and they HAVE to put together a trade package that competes with teams that have better draft ammo. The purpose of the premium picks is to land young starters on their first contracts but the draft is a crap shoot. Maybe proven starters from a SB team still on rookie contracts holds some real value to a team rebuilding with a defensive HC.

  32. Listnfrmafar Says:

Bucs1987, we Patriot fans are just showing you the winning way, heaven knows you have no experience at it.

  33. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Bobby M

I tend to agree that we don’t have the draft capital this year to bring in a top-tier QB….but there’s next year and the year after…..so we would have to throw in a player or players.
You can scratch OJ Howard off the list….he’s a FA.

  34. webster Says:

List is an idiot. The texans defense was only good one year out of watsons 4 played. And i didnt know having one weapon on offense was enough to get you over the hump. If thats the case, brady should have won it all with only mike evans this year. And i also find it funny a lot of you saying no to watson playing qb for the bucs because of these allegations but couldnt wait to run to the voters booth and vote for 45 with all of his allegations. Smdh….so one cant play football but the other can be president?

  35. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We could go after Deshaun Watson’s brother…..he’d be very cheap…Debauchery Watson.

  36. Mike C Says:

Wow, some of the comments on this site, smh you need an up or down vote system joe.

  37. Listnfrmafar Says:

Webster your the idiot, I forgot Turon Mathieu on that D also. Will Fuller, Lamar Miller, Ryan Griffen not exactly one player and Evan’s is no Hopkins.

  38. Traskin22 Says:

trade a 3rd for Jimmy and when he can’t finish Trask will be ready

  39. rrsrq Says:

Any team can offer even with better picks but because Watson has final say on the team (Texans fault), they can trade him where he wants or he continues to sit

  40. Oneilbuc Says:

No No we don’t have a running game like the 49ers!! Once teams stop the run he can’t do anything especially with a ni risk it no biscuit offense!!

I assume all of you people on this blog are blameless! … these “hoes for hire” insinuating.

That is why earlier I said each fan should read through Watson’s timeline of things that he was involved in. If you think these were all clearly hoes for hire that is not as bad as what I am seeing.

Most of these women were not involved in any form of solicitation and in my opinion Watson just exposed himself to many of the women.

I know I could be wrong on my opinion because clearly Watson is innocent until proven guilty.

But Stephen as a discerning fan, I would ask you if they were not “hoes for hire” and just some random women that he went to a level not expected constantly, is that concerning at you even a little bit. That this guy would be the player leader of the Bucs?

    GoBucs!

  43. LakelandSteve Says:

Can anyone say Jameis Winston, Bucs Quarterback for 2022. Didn’t think that was a possibility but it is starting to look more of a possibility every day.

  44. SB~LV Says:

    Winston – Brady-Watson-
    Hmm … schizo

  45. steele Says:

One moving part got DeShaun into trouble. Dozens of times.

  46. webster Says:

List is an idiot. Just cause you name names doesent mean squat. Those defenses were horrible except one year but i guess because a broke down jj watt and over the hill wilfork means you had a good defense. Go look at their rankings 3 out of 4 years they sucked. And evans is a hof and brady is the goat right? Then according to your dumb knowledge that is enough. And fournette is better than lamar miller. Oh and brady also had gronk. So overall brady had the better weapons but sure put all on lamar

  47. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

That’s right, bring a guy with sexual issues to the strip club capital! What could go wrong?

  48. Bucsguy Says:

    More better

  49. Bucs96NYC Says:

I hear all this teams in better position & blah blah. No team is trading for Watson that he doesn’t want to play for. If he goes “trade me to the Bucs” that’s it. The Texans will not carry his huge salary this yr. They will move him where he determines & he will not care about helping the Texans get the best deal. Especially b/c he kinda feels they’re also behind these allegations.
