Wind Changed Tom Brady’s Game

January 18th, 2022

Mike Evans missed out.

Before Sunday, no Bucs receiver had ever caught nine balls in a postseason game.

So Mike Evans’ nine-catch, 117-yard day set a record, but it could have been a lot more, explained his head coach.

Bucco Bruce Arians was on the Buccaneers Radio Network show that bears his name yesterday and noted that the breezy conditions at The Licht House spared the Eagles lethal strikes to Evans.

“[Tom Brady] actually had him deep a couple of times and I think the wind, you know, he was like, “Nah, I’m not going to throw it deep. I’ll just take the short [throw],” Arians explained.

Interestingly, Arians noted that the early success of Ke’Shawn Vaughn running the ball forced the Eagles to use a seven-man defensive box and that drove the frequent single coverage on Evans.

History says single coverage on Evans is a bad move for a defense, though the Rams likely will go that route often on Sunday, with star Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey having the honor of shadowing Evans like Joe hovers near the shrimp cocktail tray at parties.

Ramsey is a great player, but I like Mike’s chances one on one with anyone.

While I liked the dink and dunk, ball control offense against Phili, I think we’ll see more opportunities for longer pass plays against the Rams. AZ couldn’t capitalize on LA losing 3 safeties, but then Kyler Murray isn’t Tom Brady. The key of course will be whether Jensen and Wirth can play at a high level. If not, LA will stack the box once it becomes apparent that Brady has to quickly rifle off short passes.

I can tell you right now….most national media sports journalists are picking the Rams to win this game.

Just for the Bucs to compete…..the Bucs would have to have all their players complete on both offense and defense……and right now the Bucs have alot of injuries on both sides of the ball.

And the Eagles were just a bad team……Period!

Just for the Bucs to even have a chance winning….two things gotta happen:

    1. The defense must play lights out

    2. The offense needs to score on almost every single possession because the Rams offense will score alot of points

I know Tom Brady is the GOAT 🐐…….but even this mountain Maybe too tall to climb for him.

  4. uhmmm Says:

Mike has played mad against the Rams the last two games. i hope he keeps it up. Would be awesome to se another one of those TD’s were he is carrying a couple of DBs

  5. TheBucsAnthem Says:

This will also be a True test of coaching skills on the Bucs as well…….can the Bucs out-coach the Rams 🐏 using less talented players?????

  6. Coburn Says:

Don’t think we will have to luxury of Brady sitting back and waiting for those routes to develope. Any long throw will be one of those high trajectory quick ones when he sees Evans got his man beat off the snap. A bit more risk to them though

  7. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ uhmmm

You know would be scary…..if Mike Evans pulls up limping like he seems to do every other game.

See….if the past, this never really bothered people because we had Chris Godwin to tote the load ME13 couldn’t when he was out for all them games he was injured in…..

NOW…..NOW….Godwin is gone and God forebid if ME13 gets taken outta the game. If ME13 cannot play, the Bucs are totally screwed.

    Bucs Anthem,

This isnt the greatest show on turf we are playing. Our DLine will be able to manhandle the Rams line. The reason they have success is because of a balanced attack. Rams wont be able to run against us. It will force Stafford to throw it… Barrett is going to have a day and we will likely see a few turnovers. We said the same about the Aints in the playoffs last year, defense messed them up. A key to this game is to establish a run game and allow Brady to play action pass, have short passes to negate the pass rush and then take a deep shot or two when it comes. I wouldnt be surprised to see Scotty Miller in the same running role Shanahan used Deebo against them two weeks ago

  9. Joshua porter Says:

Mike has to play grime this game cuz Ramsey is going to be pulling and tugging on him all game . I can’t wait to watch Mike Evens big boy Ramsey this Sunday

  10. Beeej Says:

Would be helpful if the receivers NOT named Evans and Gronk didn’t drop any passes

  11. LostDecadeSurvivor Says:

I’m liking how freaked out everyone is. Rams will be either favored or given a strong chance. Good. Make Brady the underdog.

Look how the defense responded to people thinking the Eagles would force the run down their throats (lol). Now its a foregone conclusion that the rams are going to hang 37. Alright.

  12. SB Says:

“1. The defense must play lights out

    2. The offense needs to score on almost every single possession because the Rams offense will score alot of points”

    …..

Now how would the defense be playing lights out if the Rams will score a lot of points??

  13. Youngbucs Says:

Evans had Ramsey beat deep in the first game. Ramsey got away with grabbing him to slow him down go rewatch it.

  14. Lamarcus Says:

ME is good but we all know…..He can’t beat top level corners

  15. Jmarkbuc Says:

    SB😂😂

National media have all dropped the Bucs like a bad habit.

LA is their shiny new toy, which I think works great for us. The only downside is if the NFL wants LA to have the home team in SOFI. You know marketing and all.

  16. Listnfrmafar Says:

Refs tend not to make some calls on those premadona Db’s which doesn’t help.

  17. David Says:

If Evans is one on one he will get his. Gronk, Johnson and Perriman need to show up but mainly they need to run the ball …. a lot and successfully

  18. Bucsfanman Says:

I seriously wonder sometimes if we’re all watching the same games and rooting for the same team.
    “Underdog”?!
Fine. Let the Rams believe they’re going to walk right over us like they did the Cards. I prefer the underdog role.

ANYONE can be beat on ANY Sunday! I like our chances.

  19. Swampbuc Says:

Shrimp cocktail is the best! With spicy horseradishy cocktail sauce. I hover there too, Joe.

  20. Ken Says:

I hope Ramsey follows Evans all game…. Dont even bother throwing that way. Takes their best player out of the game. Could be a big day for Gronk and Perriman.

  21. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

    Rams are Favored????????????

Bucs are favored by 3 for good reason. Stafford will be under duress all game , and will have to throw it 50 times , which will lead to at least two turnovers or more.
Rams have one LESS day of rest and travel across the country. Betting against west coast underdogs traveling east over the last 5 years is an astonishing 66% win rate by betting against dogs heading east.
Is the league going to punish Aaron Donald for his reckless violent behavior in the 3rd Quarter? I belive that they definitely will-and his punishment could easily be a one game suspension. NFL wants Bucs back in Super Bowl.

  22. Brady Fan Says:

To protect Brady and create mismatches, the Bucs should play in 13 personnel most of the game. Good luck matching up with Gronk, Howard, and Brate, with Evans on the outside. Easy to run power offense with the 3 TEs blocking, or play action. Any modern D would have big problems with stopping that approach.

  23. E.Vi. Says:

Arizona didn’t go to play against Rams. Stafford had ZERO PRESSURE. BUCS are 100 percent on defense and flying. Stafford will throw 3 plus interceptions and get sacked 5 plus times. All the BUCS got to do is disrupt him early and frustrate him and he will have the worst game of his life. Also we get back playoff Lenny and hopefully Grayson. Who are the Rams going to cover?? Maybe next year Rams when Brady retires after his 8th SUPERBOWL RING!!! TAMPA BAY ALL THE WAY!! SAN FRAN GOING TO BEAT PACKERS AND THEY WILL BE COMING TO TAMPA TO LOSE. STILL HARD TO PICK AFC TEAM GOING TO SUPERBOWL AGAINST BUCS…???

  24. Izod Says:

I think I want a couple hits of whatever it is you’re smoking. It’s not going to change my prediction of the Rams totally blowing us out, but still, those hallucinogens have gotta be a lot of fun.

  25. NE+bucs fan Says:

    31-30 bucs,,any predictions guys

  26. Ericb Says:

35-28 LFGO BUCS!!!!!!! WE WIN MY PREDICTION

  27. brooks Says:

    31-30 Bucs
I have flashbacks of 99 championship game in St Louis
We need revenge it’s still the rams. Bert Emanuel where are you?

  28. Alena G Says:

Tommy has their number. And I like Stanford but he chokes.
My money’s on TB12 & the Bucs. I’d always rather be the underdog…
    Motivates.
    My 2 cents.

  29. Michel Pierre Says:

I was really impressed by Von Miller , Ramsay and Aaron Donald against Murray, but it is not a good idea to bet against the GOAT , he has its own way of reading the defense. My main concern is about the defense against Stafford, will they be able to put enough pressure to force him to throw a couple of bad turnover ?

  30. JVZ Says:

Who says the Rams will show up to play? They have also been a little wishy-washy this season. Don’t forget that any team can beat any other team on any given day.
Never bet against Tom Brady. Besides, if you run his birthdate into a biorhythm program for this Sunday’s game, he is on a tripple high! Most of the greatest feats in pro sports took place when the player was on a double or tripple high! “Fact!”

    Y’all enjoy your “arm-chair” predictions…….
