Stat Geeks: Matt Stafford, Ryan Tannehill Better Than Tom Brady
January 14th, 2022Boy oh boy, for the debut of a new stat, this may be worse trash than passer rating.
The NFL.com nerds over at NextGen Stats decided to invent a new stat called “Passing Score” rating. And already Joe has dismissed the relevance outright. Why?
Well, anyone, unless they are smashed from drinking one too many Bromosas, who tries to con Joe into believing Matt Stafford and/or Ryan Tannehill are better quarterbacks than Tom Brady or Pat Mahomes, well, that is just straight nonsense. That’s all there is to it.
Even the premise of the stat is flawed. Its description states intangibles and leadership, among other high-valued quarterback traits, are given too much weight in determining how good or valuable a quarterback is.
That’s just flat out bulls(p)it from math geeks who are triggered because they cannot slap a GD number on emotions, intelligence or leadership. Does anyone who isn’t stoned believe that Tannehill adds more value to the Titans than Brady does the Bucs? Seriously?
Brady single-handedly turned this Bucs franchise around when he arrived last year. It’s not even a debate. Standards were raised. Expectations set. Results demanded. All because No. 12 showed up. We saw it first-hand. It’s not a fairy tale (though Joe sometimes wonders if he is living a fairy tale that features Brady as the Bucs’ quarterback).
So that’s overrated?
Look, as Joe’s good friend, the late-great “Big Dog,” Steve Duemig, used to say, if these numbers geeks were so smart they’d be raking in riches in Vegas and not have to slave for Roger Goodell in a drab cubicle across the parking lot from SoFi Stadium.
Just like in passer ratings, the gibberish that ranks Matt Schaub and Marcus Mariota ahead of Dan Marino, Jim Kelly or Roger Staubach, this “Passing Score” stat is already a steaming pile of feces for Joe.
Tannehill and Stafford more valuable than Brady? Joe’s arse!
Give Joe a friggin’ break!

Ummm…. yeah.

That is the worst statted up load of hogwash since people around Bucland were trying to say that Mike Glennon was a good starting quarterback for the Bucs.
Complete kaka.

Right! This is why workplaces sometime employ random drug-testing policies!
January 14th, 2022 at 4:11 pm
Sure. The bucs would be around 50/50 record with one of those guys here
January 14th, 2022 at 4:11 pm
I bet you those geeks have never played sports or gotten into a fight in the street

Thank You for exposing these clowns Joe. It drives me crazy that many fans throw these grades around like its supposed to mean something……..You literally cant even explain what this freaking grade even means. When you start using algebric formulas and trigonometry to uderstand football dont you think theres a chance youre overcomplicting things?
Your credibility is gone once you precious computer spits out Ryan Tannehill. You couldn’t even convince a diehard Titans fan Tanehill is better!! You can actually see this by watching the games and you need help if you put a computer generated scientific formula over what you can actually see.

Total QBR also falls into the BS stat category .
2018 Matt Ryan vs 2018 Jameis Winston
Matt Ryan-
69.4% comp
4924 yards
35 TD
7 Int
5.8 TD %
1.2 int %
307 YPG
65.7 Total QBR
Jameis Winston-
2992 yards
19 TD
14 INT
5 TD%
3.7 INT %
272 ypg
66.2 Total QBR
Can somebody please explain how this can be ?
@Joe just a heads up , passer rating is a better stat than the BSPN stat that is Total QBR

But….but……..but………what do the anal-litics say?!
January 14th, 2022 at 8:10 pm
I don’t go by stats and never have but I know if that same stat was in Brady favor then it would be praised. Js

Bill Polian said he used QBR often. Good enough for Joe.
Passer rating is a slap in the face to any thinking football fan.

Ask the chargers coach about these analytics and new stats. I watched him lose 3 games with his go for it on 4th down instead of taking three. They should be at worst 12-5 and enjoying a home playoff game of not the number 1 seed. But the head coach likes to overthink a simple sport. He called a timeout when the raiders were content on ending in a tie. He by one hand gesture making a T. Cost his team and fans a playoff game by over thinking it. Just like all these stupid stat sites. And like the all pro voting team. A qbS team ties for the best record in football. Leads the league in almost every qb stat. Despite losing 2 of his top three receivers and the top running back. Yet he isn’t first team all pro. But a guy with lesser satay almost 1,000 less passing yards
January 15th, 2022 at 12:08 am
dear Tom, Tannehil is better than you!
I repeat , Tannehil is better than you!!!
January 15th, 2022 at 2:02 am
TB12 led the league in passing touchdowns and that is the only “passing score” statistic I care about.
January 15th, 2022 at 5:47 am
Pure silliness. Seemingly sane people pay these morons good money for their modern day snake oil too.

The only component that is relevant in their computation is:
Represent the most indicative features of winning football games.
– and that consists of producing td’s and don’t turn it over…

Tannehillll??? That’s laughable.
For what Stafford did this year with LA compared to what Brady did this year, it’s in the same ballpark at least. Stafford was great this year, still had too many INTs with 100 less attempts, but the completion rate and TDs were right there.
But if they’re allegedly calculating in leadership, they have no argument for anyone over Brady, EVER
